Wawa and 2SP Brewing Company Collaborate on Winter Reserve Coffee Stout

December 4, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

PHILADELPHIA – 2SP Brewing Company, in partnership with Wawa, is pleased to announce their collaborative release of Winter Reserve Coffee Stout, an oatmeal stout steeped with Wawa’s new limited edition Winter Blend coffee. Brewed by award-winning Head Brewer, Bob Barrar, in partnership with Wawa’s Manager of Concept Development and “coffee guru” Michael McLaughlin, the seasonal brew boasts flavors of sweet clove, dark chocolate, and graham crackers.

Available exclusively in cans the week of December 10th, the Winter Reserve Coffee Stout will be available to purchase at neighborhood bars, bottle shops, and distributers in the five-county Philadelphia metropolitan area. It is extremely limited – only 1,000 cases will be available!

Barrar and Wawa fans can get their hands on this exclusive brew a tad earlier however! On Thursday, December 6 the teams from 2SP Brewing Company and Wawa, will celebrate this unique collaboration at Wawa store #170 (721 Naamans Creek Rd, Chadds Ford) from 4-6pm with a special Firkin tapping and complimentary tastings. Fifty cases will be available to purchase at a first come, first serve basis and will be limited to two four packs per person.

“Collaborating with our neighbors at Wawa is a truly special experience.” said Michael Contreras, Director of Sales & Marketing for 2SP Brewing Company. “For us, it is an opportunity to work with people that bring the best out in our community. We are from a region that is home to warriors for the working day. It is part of our morning ritual to get to Wawa for our morning coffee. No matter who you are, where you’re from, or what you do, Wawa brings together people from all walks and has achieved something of a mythical status because of the variety and quality it offers. In some small way, we try to do the same with our beers.”

The Winter Reserve Coffee stout is an oatmeal stout steeped with Wawa’s Reserve Winter Blend Coffee, an exclusive handpicked roast that has flavors of sweet clove, dark chocolate, and graham crackers. 2SP Brewing Company’s Head Brewer, Bob Barrar, like Wawa, is a Delaware County native. He has won over 30 Great American Beer Fest Medals and 11 World Beer Cups.

“The oatmeal stout has a balanced sweetness that showcases the full range of flavors from the Wawa Reserve Blend with an added velvety mouthfeel,” said Bob Barrar, Head Brewer.

In addition to the exclusive first pours from the only Winter Reserve Coffee Stout firkin made, patrons will have the opportunity to purchase the first 50 cases, priced at $12.99 per 4pack/16oz cans.

“At Wawa, we are so proud to partner with and support our neighbors, especially through our exciting collaboration with the award-winning brewery, also based locally in our hometown of Delaware County, 2SP Brewing Company.” said Mike Sherlock, Chief Product Marketing Officer at Wawa. “We’re thrilled to team up with 2SP to create a Winter Reserve Coffee Stout using our new limited-edition Wawa Reserve Winter Blend, allowing us to add even more value to our customer experience just in time for the holidays.”

About Wawa
Wawa, Inc., a privately held company, began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey. Toward the end of the 19th Century, owner George Wood took an interest in dairy farming and the family began a small processing plant in Wawa, PA in 1902. The milk business was a huge success, due to its quality, cleanliness and “certified” process. As home delivery of milk declined in the early 1960’s, Grahame Wood, George’s grandson, opened the first Wawa Food Market in 1964 as an outlet for its dairy products. Today, Wawa is your all day, every day stop for freshly prepared foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services, and surcharge-free ATMs. A chain of more than 800 convenience retail stores (almost 600 offering gasoline), Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and DC.  Wawa stores offer a large fresh food service selection, including Wawa brands such as custom prepared hoagies, freshly-brewed coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, specialty beverages, and an assortment of soups, sides and snacks. In 2018 Wawa ranked #1 in the sandwich category of a Market Force study, making history as the first convenience to earn that honor. Wawa was also designated as a 2017 and 2018 Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.  In 2017 and 2018 Wawa was recognized in Forbes as one of America’s Best Large Employers, a survey-based ranking of employers offering the best associate experiences and strongest opportunities. A chain of more than 800 fuel and convenience retail stores (600+ offering gasoline), Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, D.C. and Florida.
