Big Storm Brewing Opens New Taproom in Clearwater, Florida

March 10, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

CLEARWATER, Florida — Big Storm Brewing Co. will hold a grand opening for its third Florida taproom on Saturday, March 10th in Cape Coral. With the expansion into Southwest Florida, Big Storm becomes the first independent craft brewer in the state with more than two locations.

“We’re extremely excited to bring the Big Storm experience and our selection of unique, high-quality craft beers to Cape Coral and the rest of Southwest Florida,” said Big Storm co-owner L.J. Govoni. “The expansion also underscores the continued growth we’ve experienced since Mike Bishop founded Big Storm in 2012.”

The new Big Storm taproom is located at the former Cape Coral Brewing Co. facility at 839 Miramar St.

Big Storm, through its parent company, Seaboard Craft Beer Holdings, acquired Cape Coral Brewing in December. Cape Coral Brewing had announced last year that it was closing. It was the city’s first craft brewery when it opened in September 2015.

“Cape Coral Brewing built a tremendous community and we want our new taproom to continue serving as a gathering place for craft beer aficionados, neighbors, and those looking to make new friends,” Govoni said while adding it is their hope to eventually bring Cape Coral Brewing back at a new location.

When Big Storm opened six years ago in a small200-square-foot taproom and production facility in an Odessa industrial park, the microbrewery offered just five beers. Today Big Storm brews more than 80 beers.

Govoni says he expects Big Storm will open a fourth Florida taproom by the end of the year.

Big Storm’s other taprooms are located in Clearwater and Pasco County.

About Big Storm Brewing Co.
Led by Head Brewer, Joel Moore, Big Storm’s innovative craft beers have received critical acclaim for the past six consecutive years, winning 2016’s Best Florida Beer Championship with its Oktoberfest Märzen Lager.

Big Storm is an official partner of both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The brewery also recently unveiled a collaboration with William Dean Chocolates, the company that made the chocolates featured in the Hunger Games movies, to produce a chocolate toffee stout beer called Cocoa Convergence.

Today, Big Storm is a true pioneer using locally sourced ingredients like citrus and wildflower honey, brewing more than 50 different beers, including their popular Arcus IPA, Wavemaker Amber Ale, Tropic Pressure Florida Ale, Palm Bender Gulf Coast IPA and Oats in Hose Oatmeal Stout.
