Second Self and New Realm To Release Sufferin’ Til Suffrage

March 12, 2019 by Dow Scoggins

Second Self and  New Realm Brewing will release Sufferin’ Til Suffrage, a New England double IPA. The beer will be available to purchase and on draft and in cans at Second Self’s Westside taproom and on draft at New Realm’s Poncey-Highland brewery.

Sufferin’ Til Suffrage was created and brewed in support of the Pink Boots Society, an organization dedicated to assisting, inspiring, and encouraging women beer industry professionals to advance their careers through education. Female brewers Zuri Coleman from Second Self and Christine Stevens from New Realm Brewing created the beer, and a portion of proceeds from its sales at both breweries will be donated to benefit the organization’s work.

Sufferin’ Til Suffrage is a New England double IPA, brewed exclusively with the Pink Boots Society’s signature blend of hops. Those hops were reinforced with Second Self’s house Norwegian IPA yeast, creating a stone fruit, tropical, and slightly dank aroma. The beer has a juicy and hazy appearance with a light and soft body, indicative of the New England style of IPAs.

“One of our guiding principles is to support diversity in our community, especially where it concerns the brewing industry,” says Jason Santamaria, co-founder of Second Self. “This collaboration with New Realm Brewing gives us the opportunity to not only work with one of our local friends, but to help the work of the Pink Boots Society, as well.”

Second Self will serve the beer on tap at their tasting room and in 16 oz. cans for a limited time. Artwork is designed by local Atlanta artist Lisette Correa (instagram.com/ARRRTADDICT).

ABOUT SECOND SELF BEER COMPANY
Second Self’s co-founders Jason Santamaria and Chris Doyle released their highly acclaimed beers to the public in fall 2014, and since then the brewery has expanded twice, with increases in production capabilities and growth into markets across Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. Second Self’s beers are brewed with fresh ingredients like blue ginger, lemongrass, lime, and fresh guava (never dried ingredients or extracts), and their team has been inspired by a variety of beer styles, yielding their popular Thai Wheat, ATaLe, Havana Night, viKings of the South, and more. Their Westside brewery, located at 1317 Logan Circle NW, Atlanta, GA, is open to the public for tastings on Thursday – Sunday. Second Self has been nationally recognized by The Wall Street Journal, Food & Wine, DRAFT Magazine, Beer Advocate, Fortune, Paste Magazine, and many more.

ABOUT NEW REALM BREWING
New Realm Brewing Company is an American craft brewery started in 2016 by co-founders Carey Falcone, Bob Powers and Mitch Steele. On a mission to rethink tradition and bend the rules, the team planted their first production facility in a 20,000-square foot space on Atlanta’s Eastside Beltline trail in December of 2017, featuring a 25hl brewhouse, 3,000 square foot restaurant, rooftop patio and beer garden. A second location opened in Virginia Beach mid-2018 enabling New Realm to increase their ability to innovate and create new beers. The Virginia Beach location is a 58,000-square foot space providing an additional 40,000 barrels of annual capacity. Like Atlanta, the second location features a large outdoor beer garden, private event space and a tasting room. Brewmaster Mitch Steele received the Russell Scherer Award for Innovation in Brewing in 2014 and co-authored the book IPA: Brewing Techniques, Recipes and the Evolution of India Pale Ale in 2012. In 2018 New Realm Brewing was honored with the “Rising Star” award by Brewbound magazine and in January of 2019 the brewery was awarded “Best New Brewer in Georgia” for 2018 as well as the 11th “Best New Brewer in the World” by Ratebeer. New Realm Brewing’s core principles are quality, creativity, authenticity, and striving for perfection, all with a customer-centric commitment and approach.
