Yee-Haw and Green Man Brewing Collaborate on Common Ground

April 18, 2018 by Dow Scoggins

JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee — Yee-Haw Brewing Company is working with Green Man Brewing in Asheville, NC to create a limited edition, one time-only offering, Common Ground, to support The Appalachian Mountain Bike Club and the Pisgah Area Southeast Off Road Bicycling Association, according to Yee-Haw owner Joe Baker.

Common Ground will be available starting this week at locations in Johnson City, Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tenn. as well as Asheville, NC.

The beer, described as a 100% truly unique American Lager, is based on a ‘steam beer’ heritage as it was originally cooled in shallow fermenters by the cool Pacific air. The resulting effect was large amounts of steam caused by hot liquid meeting cool air. Originally brewed during the gold rush era in San Francisco, this offering uses Tennessee barley, malted in North Carolina by River Bend Malt as is believed to be the only steam beer brewed in the state at the moment.

Wes Soward, president of the AMBC reacted, “We’re thrilled to be partners of the Common Ground collaboration. The proceeds will go towards building five new miles of trails this year that will help us connect neighborhoods and schools while expanding Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness.”

Yee-Haw Brew Master Cris Ellenbecker added, “The fact that we get to come together with another local brewery to do what we both do best — make great tasting beer. I like getting to put the competition of the industry aside and have an opportunity for all of us to learn from each other to make the industry better as a whole. Everyone does things a little bit different and learning how they do things vs how we do things and vice versa helps strengthen all of us as brewers.”
