Short’s Brewing Celebrates Anniversary with Return of Anni Party

March 19, 2022 by Mike Curme

BELLAIRE, Michigan – Every year on the last weekend in April beer lovers from across the country head to a small, rural, Northern Michigan town for a celebration of epic proportions—Short’s annual Anni Party. At least, until COVID showed up.

After two long years, Anni Party is finally back and scheduled for April 30th in downtown Bellaire, Michigan.

The first anniversary party (2005!) was a milestone for the brewery—a true celebration of tenacity and survival and truly necessary to keep the lights on at the Pub. Over the years the party has evolved to include downtown Bellaire, with profits from the party going towards community development and beautification projects, and drawing headliners like Billy Strings, Joshua Davis, The Accidentals, Dean Ween and the Brownouts, Vulfpeck, and more.

“After making it thru the last two years it felt really important to acknowledge our collective experience and celebrate living. “Life is Short’s” is one of our mantras, and a great reminder to live every day to the fullest because you just don’t know how long it will last.” Christa Brenner, Marketing & Brand Director for the brewery stated.

There will be a very limited number of tickets available in order to accommodate folks who have been holding onto their tickets since early 2020. And if that doesn’t tell you just how awesome this party is, you’ll just have to see for yourself.

Details: – Saturday April 30, 2022 – 4-9pm with early entry (pre-party) options available – 40+ beers and ciders + bands, food, and fun – $45 general admission, $70 for pre-party – Proceeds from the party go towards community development and beautification in Northern Michigan

Existing ticket holders were emailed March 11, 2022 and can email anniparty@shortsbrewing.com with any questions.

Societe Brewing Adds Bulbous Flowers to Core Lineup

March 11, 2022 by Mike Curme

SAN DIEGO, California – Available starting in March, San Diego-based Societe Brewing has launched the newest addition to its core lineup, Bulbous Flowers, a 7% ABV Hazy IPA. Coming back as a fan favorite and Societe’s first true Hazy IPA, Bulbous Flowers has been granted ‘Core Lineup’ status solidifying Hazy IPAs as more than just a fad, but a beer that’s around for the long haul.

Supporting its ethos to create everyday world-class beers, Bulbous Flowers is a sticky and fresh Hazy IPA with a West Coast finish to add to its drinkability. Still distinctive of Societe’s style, Bulbous Flowers has mild bitterness, with a slight sweetness and heavy tropical/pineapple flavors resulting in a mildly carbonated beer with a medium body that still finishes dry and clean. Using Citra, Simcoe and Mosaic hops blended with 2-Row and Oats malts for a full bloom of hops with an unfiltered aura, making for a year-round daydream of freshly squeezed citrus. Founded on the idea that beer is the world’s greatest social uniter, Societe’s core lineup offers a selection of beer that is both world-class and approachable including Societe’s staple and flagship IPA The Pupil (7.5% ABV), The Coachman (4.9% ABV) a hoppy and light Session IPA, Light Beer (4.5% ABV) a perfect for summer lager style beer, The Harlot (5.7% ABV) a light Blonde Ale and now Bulbous Flowers (7.0% ABV) the lineups first Hazy IPA. This newest addition to the core lineup will come with new psychedelic playful packaging, reflective of the new Hazy category with orange-y tropical flavors and aromas.

Societe Brewing Founder Douglas Constantiner explains, “Bulbous Flowers was the first ever Hazy IPA we brewed and right away it just took off. It came from our ‘Presently Drinking’ quarterly IPA series where we like to experiment with different IPA techniques, and it remains the most popular release from that series that we have ever done. Once it was gone, people wouldn’t stop requesting it in our taproom. So, when we decided to introduce a hazy IPA into our core line-up this year it was a no-brainer: it had to be Bulbous Flowers. Juicy orange, tropical aromas but true to Societe-style IPA’s with a clean dry finish. It’s important to us that you get the full crafted hazy experience but it’s accessible and available everyday.”

The Hazy IPA is available in 12oz six packs year-round, online and in select stores throughout California and at the Societe Tasting Room in Clairemont, San Diego.

Mother Earth Brewing Company Releases New Year-Round Hazy IPA, ‘Heavy Cloud’

March 11, 2022 by Mike Curme

VISTA, California & NAMPA, Idaho – Mother Earth is growing its already-robust core lineup with the addition of a new full time IPA.

The brewery has been producing rotating hazy beers under its Project X line for years, but Heavy Cloud distinguishes itself as a more accessible take on the style with a softer palate and more delicate aroma – attributes that will surely appeal to consumers seeking the 12oz 6pk format.

“We spent a lot of time formulating this recipe – collaborating between our two breweries through multiple tasting panels to come up with something we all would be really happy with. Knowing it was going to be a full-time beer meant it needed to be really accessible to all types of beer drinkers. We weren’t looking to create something niche. We were looking to make a go-to Hazy: Something mellow and sessionable, with a slightly lower ABV, but with the hoppiness that IPA fans have come to expect. ”

-Chris Baker – Director of Brewing Ops, Mother Earth Brew Co.

The hallmarks of Heavy Cloud are in its hop bill, which boasts an all-star trifecta in Galaxy, Citra, & Sabro. Stone fruit and melon are at the core of its flavor profile. Its elegant aroma and soft, peachy appearance, is welcoming at the least, but hypnotic at its best.

Heavy Cloud rolls out this month in almost all Mother Earth’s major markets. Customers will be able to use the brewery’s interactive Beer Finder mid-month to locate the beer near them at findmotherearthbrewing.com.

About Mother Earth

Mother Earth Brew Co. develops hand crafted artisanal ales in year-round, as well as seasonal and specialty offerings. With multi-state as well as international distribution serviced by breweries in Vista, CA and Nampa, ID; Mother Earth’s award-winning beers help define and maintain the standard of excellence expected of independent craft brewers.

Ecliptic Brewing Celebrates Milestone Brew with New Limited Beer Release

March 5, 2022 by Mike Curme

PORTLAND, Oregon – Ecliptic Brewing – the brewery founded by Oregon beer icon, John Harris – recently celebrated an important brewing milestone: the 5000th batch of beer the company has made. The beer, simply called “5000”, is a golden barleywine aged in gin barrels. It will be released in both 16-ounce can four-packs and draft in mid-February. Very limited quantities are available of this special brew.

5000 was brewed with Pale and Munich malts and hopped with Nugget, Azacca, and Mosaic. The beer slept in Ransom Old Tom Gin barrels for 5 months, picking up notes of oak and gin aromatics. This milestone brew was an extra special one for Ecliptic’s Owner and Brewmaster, John Harris, who is known for his annual Orange Giant Barleywine release and is a big fan of gin. He did lots of gin research early in the pandemic, perfecting the at-home negroni.

Says Harris, “This beer was inspired by Larry Bell and how he names milestone batches at Bell’s Brewery. We were so busy that I missed our 1000 and 2500 batches! We tracked 5000 for about four months. I wanted a stronger ale, so I chose barleywine, and I wanted all the color to come from the gin barrel. Old Tom is a darker gin, so I know if we kept the beer golden, the barrel would impact the beer’s color- and it did. We chose to package it in a can to add some fun. It’s not such a serious thing! Next up is batch 7500.”

Very limited quantities of 5000 will be released in both draft and 16-ounce cans throughout Ecliptic Brewing’s distribution network beginning mid-February.

About 5000: Gin Barrel-aged Golden Barleywine:

Not particularly long, long ago, in a brewery that isn’t too far, far away, an intrepid brewing team lovingly crafted their 5000th batch of Ecliptic beer. That beer was a big, brilliant golden barleywine ale that they carefully laid into cryo-sleep in great oak vessels that once held old tom gin. You’re now holding a part of that celebration batch, as a toast from us. Here’s to many more light years together. We couldn’t have done it without you.

ABV: 13%

IBU: 80

Belching Beaver Brewery Launches New Core Pale Ale

March 5, 2022 by Mike Curme

San Diego, California – Belching Beaver wanted to develop a core Pale Ale to give its customers a lower alcohol beer, but still loaded with flavor, and round out their portfolio heavily focused on IPAs and stouts. Pomalo Pale Ale comes in at 5.6% abv and will be the company’s first large scale pale ale brewed at their production facility. It will be available throughout the company’s distribution channels starting Friday, March 4 via 16-ounce can six-packs.

Belching Beaver started from the ground up on this pale ale, and multiple test batches were brewed to narrow down the exact recipe they used for Pomalo.

“It’s hard to obtain a good malt backbone in lower ABV beers without making it overly malty,” said Troy Smith Brewmaster at Belching Beaver. “It’s a balancing act, and to help with mouthfeel, head retention and overall malt complexity we used classic 2-row, aromatic malt, biscuit malt and dextro pils.”

“We hopped this beer with Simcoe, Amarillo, Mosaic and El Dorado hops to give it notes of resin, pine, some tropical notes and hints of citrus, said Andy Coppock District Sales Manager at Belching Beaver. “All of these hops are really well balanced on top of that beautiful malt bill.” “When you drink this beer, you’ll know it’s a pale ale.”

Now, you’re probably wondering where the name came from. When the team was discussing a name for this beer, they wanted to use something that complimented their No Worries brand. The breweries tagline is “Dam Good Times,” and they pride themselves on keeping the fun alive, and after a long day, encourage you to find the time to, kick back and enjoy a cold beer.

During the time they were developing this brand, CEO Tom Vogel and Brewmaster Troy Smith took a vacation to Croatia to decompress and relax with their families. While they were there, they were visiting a local winery (Croatia makes amazing wines) and they were introduced to the word “Pomalo” by a local. It became the theme of their trip. Pomalo means, “take it easy,” “no stress,” “no worries,” which is exactly what you’re supposed to do on vacation.

“We were really struggling to find the perfect name for this beer, nothing was jumping out at us or sticking, said Haley Smith Marketing Manager at Belching Beaver. “When we heard this word in Croatia it all fell into place.” “We love to travel and now we are able to share that experience with our customers and hopefully encourage them to do the same.” “The pandemic stripped so many things from us, travel being a big one for us, and it’s time to celebrate it again.” “We know we will have to do some education when releasing this beer so our customers know what it means, but we’re willing to take on that challenge.” “Hopefully this will be one of many travel-inspired beers, shining just a small light that we can on other amazing places in this world.

Pomalo Pale Ale is a very approachable beer, and if that doesn’t draw you in, hopefully the art showcasing a large smiley face will.

Belching Beaver is distributed in 14 states: AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MN, NV, OR, NE, TX, UT, WA, WI
