SAN DIEGO, California – In the midst of a global pandemic, with numerous local magazines and media entities folding or going on hiatus to survive the COVID era, a news outlet devoted to covering San Diego’s world-famous brewing industry and rich craft-beer scene launched. That interest, San Diego Beer News (SDBN) has since become the most-searched and comprehensive online resource for information on the county’s 200-plus brewery-owned venues and beer-centric businesses. To celebrate SDBN’s two-year anniversary, award-winning Vista-based brewery, Eppig Brewing, has teamed with the outlet’s founder, Brandon Hernández, to brew a commemorative beer. Overflowing with hop-borne tropical and citrus flavors and aromas, the beer is called Just the Facts IPA, and will make its debut at a pair of public-release events at Eppig’s Point Loma Waterfront Biergarten and Vista Brewery & Bierhalle on Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13, respectively.
“We were thrilled San Diego Beer News came to us for this year’s collaboration” said Eppig co-founder Todd Warshaw. “We appreciate the focus and energy Brandon has brought to the beer coverage for our region over the past two years and know we can count on him to get the full story. He enables us to accurately communicate business updates to our community, which we really value in a local media partner. SDBN also gives us a platform to share our industry’s plethora of beer releases, events, and job listings–the website and newsletter continue to expand ways for small independent breweries to reach both our peers and our fans.”
Just the Facts IPA extends on a tradition started last year when Carlsbad-based Burgeon Beer Co. brewed a limited-edition beer, Cover Story IPA, to celebrate SDBN’s one-year anniversary. When considering which local brewery to reach out to for this year’s celebratory beer, Hernández thought it fitting to ask the winningest operation in the two-year history of the San Diego Beer News Awards. Eppig Brewing has won a total of 24 medals in the annual fan- and industry-voted competition, including first place for Best Brewery (northern region), Best West Coast IPA, Best Imperial IPA, Best Pilsner, Best Lager (non-Pilsner), and Best Sour Ale.
“I’ve been reporting on Eppig Brewing since before they opened, and the quality of their ales and lagers has always been exceptional. It’s key to how the business has been able to grow so quickly from a tiny interest in a lease-to-brew unit, to a favorite of local beer fans with a large brewery in North County and tasting rooms in Point Loma, and soon, La Jolla,” says Hernández. “Their success is based on skilled craftsmanship, and I feel privileged the Eppig team has applied some of that expertise to Just the Facts IPA. That generosity of time and spirit is a testament to the camaraderie that makes San Diego’s brewing community so special.”
Just the Facts IPA will go on tap during special events taking place at Eppig’s pair of tasting rooms, starting with a ceremonial debut tapping at the company’s Point Loma Waterfront Biergarten at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 12. The next day, Saturday, August 13, the beer will go on tap at Eppig’s Vista Brewery and Bierhalle starting at noon. Hernández will be on-hand at both events to pour the first pints and interact with beer fans. Just the Facts IPA will also be for sale in four-packs of 16-ounce cans at both locations, on Eppig’s website (beginning Monday, August 8), and at retail accounts across San Diego County where Eppig beers are sold.
