Ecliptic Brewing’s Phaser Hazy IPA Goes Through Brand Refresh

September 25, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Ecliptic Brewing

PORTLAND, Oregon – Ecliptic Brewing’s Phaser Hazy IPA has been rebranded. The company’s flagship Hazy IPA,which is available in both draft and 12-ounce six packs, will begin shipping with its new label in late summer of 2022. The beer recipe remains the same.

Phaser Hazy IPA originally launched in the company’s Seasonal Series, asthe 2018 winter release. Says John Harris, Ecliptic’s Owner and Brewmaster,“Phaser was our first beer to use Citra hops for their fruity aromas and flavors.” In its initial launch, the label was aligned with the brewery’s Seasonal Series look, featuring Ecliptic’s logo in bright pink and purple colors. The beer quickly gained traction and took off in the market. Continues Harris,“The beer was overwhelmingly popular, so later in 2018, we added it to our Limited Release Series, shipping to distributors when there was capacity to do so.” The label remained the same.

Phaser Hazy IPA officially moved to Ecliptic’s All the Time Series, makingit available consistently year-round, in late 2020. While the label remained unchanged for a few years, the company decided it was time to move the brand in line with the rest of the series’ offerings, which features unique artwork for each beer.Says Ecliptic Brewing’s Sales Manager, Erin Grey Kemplin, “Originally, we wanted to keep our Seasonal Series label treatment so that our fans could continue to identify the beer on store shelves. Now that Phaser Hazy IPA has been out there for a couple of years and has transitioned into a core brand forus, we felt it was time to align it with our other All the Time Series beers.” The new Phaser Hazy IPA label makes a nod to the Star Trek reference, yet still features the pink and purple hues that customers have grown accustomed to since the beer’s inception.

Phaser Hazy IPA will be released in 12-ounce six pack cans with its new label throughout Ecliptic Brewing’s distribution network in late summer of 2022.To celebrate, the company is hosting Phaser Day on September 26th at their North Portland restaurant, featuring $2 pints of Phaser Hazy IPA and a new Phaser tee shirt. About The Black Crowes

In 1990, when journalists were lamenting the death of rock, as cheesy pop and hair metal dominated the charts, Atlanta’s Black Crowes gave the genre a swift and much needed kick in the ass with Shake Your Money Maker. Fueled by singles “JealousAgain,” “Twice As Hard,” “She Talks To Angels,” and the break-through cover of Otis Redding’s “Hard To Handle,” the band immediately took the rock world by storm, topping RollingStone’s “Best New America Band Readers Poll” in late 1990. The Black Crowes went on to release eight studio and four live albums, selling in the tens of millions along the way; they sold out shows around the world; had legendary guitarist Jimmy Page join as a member; got kicked off a tour with ZZ Top for insulting the sponsor; got screwed by bad record deals; got married and divorced, fought amongst themselves and against the rest of the world.  In other words, they’ve done everything a legendary rock group should do.

D9 Brewing Unveils Brand Refresh

September 24, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

D9 Brewing Company CORNELIUS, North Carolina – D9 Brewing Company, award-winning producer of popular beers such as Hakuna Matata Tropical IPA and Brewer’s Day Off Gose, will begin rolling out a completely new look for its canned offerings beginning in September. Long a feature of beer shelves across the Southeast, the brewery will be retaining much of its core lineup, but with updated recipes, labels, and formulations to reflect the evolving industry that the company helped build.

“When I founded D9 back in 2014, the craft beer scene was only just starting to play around with ingredients outside of hops and malt,” said Andrew Durstewitz, the company’s founder and CEO. “We were focused from day one on pushing the boundaries of what beer could be, and finding new and unique flavors that no one else had ever experimented with before. In a way, we were one of the true trailblazers for all of the crazy, adventurous, interesting breweries that have come to define craft beer.”

Alongside its new labels, the company has placed a new focus on being truly First in Flavor within the craft beer community, having pioneered an approach to brewing that puts innovation and creativity right alongside quality and drinkability as the goal. Even today, D9 Brewing continues to be at the forefront of the beer industry, having recently released beers containing such unique ingredients as green Hatch chiles and grilled pineapples.

The brewery’s core lineup consists of Oh Be Hazy (hazy IPA), Brown Sugar Brown Cow (mocha brown ale), Swell Rider (tangerine session ale), Hakuna Matata (tropical IPA), and Brewer’s Day Off (cucumber and melon gose). Known especially for their sour beers, perennial favorites Whiskers on Kittens and Carnaval will continue on, now containing strawberry rhubarb and cranberry, respectively. German Chocolate Cake, a luscious seasonal stout with notes of coconut and pecan, will join the core offerings in October as the first in a series of limited releases extending all the way through 2023.

“These days, things like sours or fruited beers or using unique ingredients is just a part of what craft beer is,” explained Will Warren, D9’s Head Brewer. “We are proud to have helped build that, and we still put a focus on trying new processes and finding new flavors, to help push the industry forward even further. Beer is supposed to be fun, and it’s supposed to be creative, and that’s what D9 is all about.”

The new beers and labels will be available beginning in October wherever fine craft beers are sold across the Southeast. They will also be available in D9 Brewing Company’s taprooms in Cornelius, Uptown Charlotte, and Hendersonville, North Carolina beginning on September 24th. As with all of D9’s products, they will also be available for shipping directly to customers in 42 states through the Bevana store and at their taproom in Newton, North Carolina.

Firestone Walker Introduces Cal Poly Gold

September 24, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Firestone WalkerPASO ROBLES, California – Mustang pride is brewing across the Central Coast as Firestone Walker Brewing Company introduces Cal Poly Gold, the official craft beer of Cal Poly.

Cal Poly Gold will debut at the Cal Poly Mustangs’ first 2022 home football game on September 10 and will continue to be available at all Cal Poly Athletics events where concessions are sold. It will also begin rolling out next week in six-pack (12-ounce cans) and draft formats as a year-round offering across San Luis Obispo County and into Santa Maria. It will also be available at Firestone Walker’s main brewery in Paso Robles.

“Cal Poly graduates have always played a vital role in the ranks of our brewing team and elsewhere in our brewery,” said brewery co-founder David Walker. “Like us, Cal Poly is passionate about the brewing sciences and craft culture, and this collaboration is the latest example of how we support each other.”

Cal Poly Gold is the latest step in a longtime relationship between Cal Poly and Firestone Walker Brewing Company, said Cal Poly Athletic Director Don Oberhelman, and will have a variety of positive impacts. Proceeds from all concession sales at football games and other sporting events will help fund student-athlete scholarships and will help provide new and exciting Learn by Doing internship opportunities for Cal Poly students.

“Firestone Walker is one of the best breweries in the world and has hired many Cal Poly alumni and benefited directly from the university’s renown for producing graduates who are primed for success,” Oberhelman said. “It made perfect sense for us to further unite the excellence of our respective institutions to create this new beer. I am confident our fans and alumni will absolutely love Cal Poly Gold. I am very passionate about this relationship and the mutual opportunities we will enjoy with our friends at Firestone Walker, and I am excited to see how this friendship and relationship will grow to benefit our entire community.”

Cal Poly Gold is an all-malt lager brewed with noble hops. According to Firestone Walker Brewmaster Matt Brynildson, Cal Poly Gold was a collaboration every step of the way, from shepherding the idea with the university to reaching a consensus among the brewing team.

“We have a myriad of Cal Poly grads on the brewing and marketing teams who had a hand in formulating and making this beer,” Brynildson said, noting that the can artwork was designed by Cal Poly alum and Firestone Walker Art Director Alyssa Hornby. “We collectively decided that this should be a light, sessionable beer, in contrast to something hoppy or heavier. So, we created Cal Poly Gold as a crisp, refreshing, easy-drinking lager that’s perfect for enjoying the SLO life.”

About Firestone Walker Brewing Company

Founded by brothers-in-law Adam Firestone and David Walker in 1996, Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a California beer company with three innovative brewing facilities. Firestone Walker’s main brewery in Paso Robles produces a diverse portfolio ranging from iconic pale ales to vintage barrel-aged beers. The Barrelworks facility in Buellton makes eccentric wild ales, while the Propagator pilot brewhouse in Venice specializes in R&D beers and limited local offerings. Firestone Walker is also the brewery behind 805, one of the nation’s fastest-growing beers. Firestone Walker was recently named “Best American Brewery of the Decade” by Paste Magazine.

Cal Poly is a nationally ranked public university located in San Luis Obispo, California, and known for its Learn by Doing philosophy. Each year more than 22,000 top-tier students come to Cal Poly to put knowledge into action, taking their learning outside the classroom as they prepare for careers in areas such as engineering, agriculture, science, business, humanities and the built environment. Cal Poly’s hands-on approach, small class sizes and close student-faculty mentorships result in graduates ready from Day One to impact their communities, California and the world.

Zupan’s Farm to Market Wayfinder 2022 Release

September 24, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Wayfinder Beer PORTLAND, Oregon – Zupan’s Markets has partnered with Portland’s Wayfinder Beer to develop the 20th beer in their Farm-to-Market lineup: Festbier, a crisp-bodied, golden malted lager. This take on a classic Oktoberfest beer is lightly golden, strong and incredibly sessionable. As a Wiesn beer, this Festbier is more like a strong Export Helles than a traditional Marzenbier.

“Zupan’s Markets is so excited to welcome Wayfinder Beer’s Festbier to our Farm-to-Market lineup,” said Zupan’s Markets President and CEO Mike Zupan. “It’s a beautiful and classic style that pairs well with all foods, especially soft pretzels, sausages and other fall fare.”

This crisp lager is currently on shelves at all three Zupan’s Markets locations as well as on tap at Wayfinder Beer’s pub at 304 SE 2nd Avenue in Portland. The beer is sold in single 16 oz cans for $4.99 or a 4-pack for $17.49.

“We’re thrilled to be able to partner with Zupan’s to offer our golden, smooth, malty Oktoberfest Wiesn-style lager”, said Kevin Davey, Brewmaster at Wayfinder Beer. “This incredibly sessionable beer is a great way to enjoy the traditional atmosphere of a German beer festival from the comfort of your own home.”

Farm to Market Beer Profile: ABV 5.7%, IBU 28

Tasting Notes: Crisp-bodied, lightly golden, malted

Food Pairing Notes: Complements a wide range of cuisine, and pairs well with freshly baked pretzels with mustard or Bavarian beer cheese; bratwurst, kielbasa or cheddar link.

About Wayfinder Beer

Wayfinder Beer is a lager-centric brewery that combines old and new school lager techniques to push the envelope of what lager can be. The founders of Wayfinder, lager fanatics themselves and proselytizers of cool fermentation, installed a dedicated decoction vessel to achieve malt complexities otherwise unattainable. While rewriting the definition of lager for the next generation of craft beer enthusiasts, they are bringing with it the traditions of Europe and America’s favorite beer.

About Zupan’s Markets

Founded by John Zupan in 1975, Zupan’s Markets is a local and family-owned gourmet market that has served Portland’s food-loving community for more than 40 years. Zupan’s Markets has three locations that focus on quality, selling everything from the best meats and wines to the freshest produce, baked goods, gourmet deli products, specialty foods, flowers and more, always emphasizing locally-sourced, artisan products when possible.

Imagine Nation Brewing and WildEarth Guardians team up for Wolf Hearted IPA

September 23, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Imagine Nation Brewing

MISSOULA, Montana – Imagine Nation Brewing Company and WildEarth Guardians have teamed up to create Wolf Hearted IPA. The specialty beer will be released to the public on Thursday, September 15 at the brewery (1151 W Broadway St.) with WildEarth Guardians’ Missoula staff members present for a special event from 4 to 8 pm. Wolf Hearted IPA will be available on tap at the brewery and also available in a “wolf pack-four pack” at the brewery and at select locations across Missoula.

“Wolf Hearted IPA raises awareness about the decimation of wolves in Montana and surrounding Yellowstone National Park after the gray wolf was delisted from the Endangered Species Act,” explained Tim Graham, co-owner of Imagine Nation Brewing. “The purpose of this beer is to raise awareness so that gray wolves are once again protected and respected.”

“We are very grateful to Imagine Nation for brewing Wolf Hearted IPA and their partnership to call attention to the dire situation facing gray wolves across Montana and the Northern Rockies,” said Sarah McMillian, WildEarth Guardians’ senior advisor. “Another brutal and difficult wolf trophy hunting and trapping season is starting in Montana, so we encourage those who have the wolf in their heart to join us at the brewery on September 15, raise a glass for wolves, and learn how they can take action to protect these beautiful creatures.”

The beautiful 16-ounce can features this message: “After losing Endangered Species Act protections in the Northern Rockies, wolf packs have been decimated—including the storied wolves of Yellowstone National Park. WildEarth Guardians knows that the public can make a difference in this fight.

Imagine Nation has been a house of dialogue for nearly seven years. After hosting over 4,000 community events, supporting over 500 organizations, and giving back up to 25% of their net profit to the community, the brewery has used beer as a vehicle to bring people together over the challenges that face us as humanity.

WildEarth Guardians protects and restores the wildlife, wild places, wild rivers, and health of the American West. With offices in Missoula and throughout the American West, WildEarth Guardians envisions a world where wildlife and wild places are respected and valued and our world is sustainable for all beings.

Rogue Expands Dead Guy Whiskey Portfolio

September 20, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Rogue NEWPORT, Oregon – Rogue Ales & Spirits is unveiling a new custom bottle for its award-winning American Single Malt, Dead Guy Whiskey, and expanding the portfolio with the release of new Dead Guy® Whiskey expressions – Dead Guy Whiskey Stout Cask Finished (originally Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey) and Dead Guy Whiskey Wine Cask Finished (a brand new expression).

“Fifteen years after we first bottled Dead Guy Whiskey, we are thrilled to expand our American Single Malt portfolio,” says Steven Garrett, VP of Business Development. “As a leading producer of American Single Malt in the country, it is a wonderful time to add new expressions and double down on this emerging category that we’ve been working to perfect for almost two decades.”

Rogue first released Dead Guy Whiskey in 2006 and it quickly became their most popular whiskey. This one-of-a-kind whiskey is pot distilled from 100% malted barley at Rogue’s distillery on the Oregon Coast. The climate in Newport, Oregon is mild, and the fresh ocean air is perfect for whiskey to breathe as it ages, a process known as “ocean aging.” This unique process imparts the smooth, rich taste Dead Guy is known for.

“For our Wine Cask Finished expression we sourced freshly dumped wine barrels from the reputable King Estate Winery in Eugene, Oregon. Bold fruit notes are accentuated by a rush of dark plum, tobacco and peppercorn in this one-of-a-kind whiskey,” adds Garrett. “The Stout Cask Finished is so uniquely Rogue, utilizing barrels we make by hand at our onsite cooperage that previously aged a stout beer that we brewed at our brewery. This whiskey has won best craft distilled whiskey at the highly acclaimed San Francisco World Spirits competition two of the last four years and is a real testament to everything we do at Rogue, from distilling to coopering to brewing.”

In addition to the new core line of whiskeys, a Single Barrel Project series is soon to follow to showcase the unique barrels being built at Rogue’s onsite cooperage.

Wild Leap Turns Five

September 20, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Wild Leap Craft Beverages

LAGRANGE, Georgia – This Saturday, Wild Leap Craft Beverages turns five years old and will be throwing an epic event to celebrate. The event will consist of one-day-only beers, rare to-go beers, cocktails and slushies, live music and food trucks from across Georgia.

Since the brand’s inception five years ago, Wild Leap has expanded from a small-town brewery to a full craft beverage company with diverse offerings, such as spirits and ready-to-drink cocktails and a soon-to-open second taproom in Downtown Atlanta. With over 50 awards and recognitions since 2017, Wild Leap has earned highly-respected awards within the industry, including Beer Connoisseur’s Brewery of the Year, San Francisco World Spirits Competition and USA TODAY’s Best New Brewery. The fan-favorite beverages are now available at retailers throughout the Southeast with online orders available for shipment across the country.

“We are very appreciative of the outpouring support from our awesome fan base and hardworking team. We couldn’t have reached this level of success without our dedicated team members who have contributed to our fast growth over the years,” said Rob Goldstein, Chief Revenue Officer of Wild Leap. “As we prepare for the opening of our Atlanta location, we feel the best way to celebrate this milestone is by throwing a massive party at our flagship location where it all started.”

Starting at 2 p.m., guests will enjoy live music from yacht rock band Bill Wickers Trio and funk-soul band Too Many Peachtree Streets. Food trucks from across the state will be serving all types of cuisines. The brewery will also offer limited-release bottles of Lone Buffalo Anniversary Stout, as well as many other to-go beer and cocktail options.

The following week after the event, Wild Leap will release two new specialty Birthday Month beers in all markets. The first is a bright, crispy traditional Czech-style Pilsner loaded with Czech Saaz hops. The second is the brewery’s first New Zealand Triple IPA featuring Riwaka and Nelson Sauvin hops. These beers will also be offered on draft in the taproom along with 6-pack cans to-go.

“We love this time of year when we can celebrate together with our friends, family and fans! We all work hard creating new beers and cocktails, and our anniversary party really lets us get creative and share some of our new ideas with our consumers. We are all looking forward to raising a glass for a big cheers to 5 years!” said Chris Elliott, Chief Brewing Officer.
