Fretboard Brewing to Launch Distribution in Kentucky

June 17, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

FretBoard BrewingBLUE ASH, Ohio – After three and a half years of operation, Fretboard Brewing Company is set to cross state lines for the first time with distribution of their award-winning beers in Kentucky. Partnering with Heidelberg Distributing, Fretboard beers will be available on draft and in package beginning the week of June 21st. Fans of the Blue Ash, Ohio brewery can expect core brands like “Reba” Strawberry Blonde, World Beer Cup winner “Vlad” Pilsner, and their West Coast IPA, “Improv” – along with seasonal releases – to be available in cans throughout the state. Draft will be found at bars and restaurants in northern and central Kentucky.

Since their grand opening in the fall of 2017, Fretboard had self-distributed solely throughout greater Cincinnati. The announcement to partner with Heidelberg, and bring their beer to Kentucky, comes just months after their arrival in the Dayton market last February. With the consumer shift to packaged beer in 2020, it’s expected that trend will continue throughout 2021. With a new canning line recently installed, Fretboard hopes to extend their presence on shelves between Ohio & Kentucky, with familiar favorites and exciting new releases.

First to cross the river will be two of Fretboard’s most exciting summer seasonal releases; “Kool On” Ocean Shandy and Klosterman Honey Wheat Lager. The latter is a familiar collaboration with Cincinnati’s own, Klosterman Baking Company, first brewed in 2019. The Honey Wheat Lager is a nod to Klosterman’s famous honey buns – a staple at cookouts throughout the Midwest – and is brewed with locally sourced honey from Don Popp’s Honey Farm in Hamilton, Ohio. “Kool On” Ocean Shandy is a new product that follows the reemergence of the shandy craze. Brewed with lemonade and pink guava , it’s a light and sessionable beach-side summer sipper. Both beers will be available in 6-packs for a limited time.

“As a music-themed brewery, one thing we’re really excited about, upon entering Kentucky, is new opportunities to work with local music venues.” Says Fretboard Marketing Director, Mitch LaGrow. “That’s the biggest ice breaker and common bond. We’re as passionate about the music as we are about our beer.” While Fretboard works out the details of their initial launch parties in northern Kentucky, one connection has already been made thanks to Kevin Moreland, Partner at Fretboard. Florence Speedway, the long-standing dirt track in Boone County, KY, will be carrying Fretboard beers throughout the remainder of the 2021, and full 2022, seasons.

Keep an eye out on Fretboard’s social media accounts for updates as they approach the launch. Special tapping events will be happening at bars throughout northern Kentucky.

Oskar Blues Releases Death By Flapjacks English Porter

June 16, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Oskar Blues Longmont, Colo. – Oskar Blues Brewery announces the debut of Death By Flapjacks English Porter (6.5% ABV), the second entry of 2021 in their series of over-the-top Death By beers inspired by cult classic Death By Coconut Irish Porter. Death By Flapjacks will be available nationwide starting June 20, in 4-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft.

A flapjack-inspired brew might sound flipping crazy, but a big-time breakfast beer with decadent flavors of maple and vanilla was a natural fit for the Death By Series. Picking up where Death By Coconut, Death By King Cake and Death By Affogato left off, Death By Flapjacks takes its cue from the universal breakfast food – pancakes.

A gulp of Death By Flapjacks hits you with a huge maple wake up call, jacked up on syrupy goodness. Smooth vanilla, lactose, and a subtle hint of nutmeg complement the honey and crystal malts in this English Porter to provide the pancake-like vehicle for massive maple flavors. The addition of fresh lemon peel gives a quick palate reset so you can take another crack at this short stack flapjack brew.

“Brewing a pancake beer makes it all the more socially acceptable for me to never turn down a beer with breakfast when it’s offered,” said Juice Drapeau, head brewer for Oskar Blues Brewery. “The lactose and maple combination makes Death By Flapjacks a completely unique drinking experience great for early mornings and late nights or when late nights become early mornings.”

Death By Flapjacks English Porter is the second offering in the Death By Porter Series. Find it on shelves nationwide in 4-packs of 12 oz. cans and on draft starting June 20. Oskar Blues taprooms in Colorado and North Carolina will hold release events on June 20 with breakfast foods and more. Bring your Dad. Superfans of the eponymous Death By Coconut can expect the return of the cult classic this fall.

Baxter Brewing Releases Colonial Pemaquid Honey Blonde Ale

May 27, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Baxter BrewingLewiston, ME – Baxter Brewing is releasing the latest addition in their Maine State Parks beer series. Named after the Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site in New Harbor, the beer is slated to hit retail shelves in Maine just before Memorial Day weekend.

Coinciding with the release, Colonial Pemaquid Honey Blonde ale will be featured – along with the brewery – on Good Morning America’s “Rise and Shine” morning segment. As pandemic restrictions ease, Good Morning America’s anchors are traveling across the country to meet local businesses and broadcast from renowned parks and institutions. On Thursday, May 27, Good Morning America will air their conversation with Baxter President Jenn Lever about the release of Colonial Pemaquid.

“The GMA team was great to work with,” said Merritt Waldron, Baxter Brewing’s Quality Director. “It was impressive to see how quick and professional they were.”

The beer, which Waldron describes as “crisp and refreshing, [with] notes of honey and orange blossom,” is part of Baxter’s Passion Project portfolio which aims to direct awareness and funds to benevolent organizations based in Maine. “I think it’s a great beer for a great cause,” added Waldron. “The state parks are a wonderful resource that Maine has, and I am glad we can help out.”

The success of last year’s Maine State Parks beer inspired Lever to progress the series with additional Maine parks. “Popham Beach last summer was such a fan favorite that we figured the best way to honor the parks, and the return of tourism, was to brew more,” said Lever. “You’ll be able to find our honey blonde ale throughout the summer, and we can’t wait to see what people think!”

Colonial Pemaquid Honey Blonde ale [4.8% ABV] is available in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans at select retailers throughout Maine. A portion of the proceeds from sales will go directly to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry .

About Baxter Brewing Company

Baxter Brewing Company is the third-largest brewery in Maine by volume and is the first brewery in New England to offer its entire beer catalog exclusively in cans. Baxter brews beer for a sense of adventure, with grit and integrity. Enjoy these all-season, any-weather beers at The Pub (next door to the Baxter Brewery in the historic Lewiston Bates Mill) or on the trail (during an outdoor event produced by Baxter Outdoors). Heavy Seas & Royal Farms Announce the Re-Release Their World Famous Pilsner

May 27, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

World Famous PilsnerBALTIMORE – Heavy Seas is excited to announce the re-release of, World Famous  Pilsner brewed in collaboration with Royal Farms. World Famous was created to celebrate Royal Farms’ wildly popular Chicken Palooza event as it enters its fourth year. World Famous will be available for a limited time in the 41 Royal Farms stores that carry beer & wine throughout MD, VA & PA this July. This beer will also be available during a can release at the Heavy Seas Brewery on June 25th.

World Famous PilsnerTwo Baltimore neighbors blast off to make history. Heavy Seas and Royal Farms have teamed up to create World Famous Pilsner- a beer brewed to pair perfectly with Royal Farm’s World Famous fried chicken. This crisp, clean pilsner tastes even better with RoFo fried chicken and Western fries. Get ready for a pairing that’s out of this world good.

“We’re incredibly excited to partner again with Royal Farms this year on World Famous. I am a huge fan of RoFo chicken and have found a crisp, clean lager to be the perfect style of beer to compliment the subtle spice and yes, unctuous deliciousness, of a RoFo breast or wing,” says Heavy Seas Brewmaster, Christopher Leonard. “We’ve added a touch of citrus flair to the aroma and flavor of this pilsner-style lager with the deft addition of Citra hops late in the boil and in the fermenter. At 5.0% ABV, it pairs beautifully with Royal Farms chicken, yet has just enough complexity of flavor to be enjoyable on its own.”

“The World Famous Pilsner was a hit in 2020, and we are so excited to be bringing it back in 2021 with Heavy Seas. We completely sold out of it during our ChickenPalooza event last year. The Pilsner really is fantastic, perfectly paired on a warm Summers day with our World Famous chicken.” says Shelby Kemp, Marketing for Royal Farms.

World Famous will release in 6 packs of 16 oz cans at the Heavy Seas brewery Friday, June 25th. Chicken Palooza begins at Royal Farms July 1st.

About Heavy Seas Beer
