Mother Earth Brewing Releases NITRO Barrel-aged Stout Under 4Seasons Label

June 24, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Mother Earth BrewingVista, CA & Nampa, ID – Mother Earth is welcoming summer by releasing one of its cult classics into a 16 oz can under its 4Seasons Barrel-aged program. ‘Quit Stalin’, as it’s cleverly called, is a Russian Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels that was formerly a draft-exclusive but is now making its way into package.

“Quit Stalin has been a customer favorite for a long time and we routinely get requests to make it more widely available in a can. Since our 4Seasons program is essentially built and fed off of Quit Stalin as a base (amongst other blending beers) it’s a natural marriage. This will give us the opportunity to see how well it stands on its own.”

– Kamron Khannakhjavani – Director of Marketing, Mother Earth Brew Co.

Consistent with what the brewery calls its “uber-premium” line of products, 4Seasons Summer arrives as a luscious NITRO variant; just the second in the 4S line to hold that distinction. Its NITRO creaminess further enhances a full body and the addition of brown sugar adds caramel sweetness to round out the roasted barley and coffee malt.

Summer ‘21 is available in 16oz cans and very limited draft at Mother Earth’s Nampa, Idaho tap room and wherever independent craft beers are sold.

About Mother Earth

Mother Earth Brew Co. develops hand crafted artisanal ales in year-round, as well as seasonal and specialty offerings. With multi-state as well as international distribution serviced by breweries in Vista, CA and Nampa, ID; Mother Earth’s award-winning beers help define and maintain the standard of excellence expected of independent craft brewers.

Dogfish Head & Surf Bagel Brew DelaWeAre Collaboration Beer

June 24, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Dogfish HeadRehoboth, Del. – Dogfish Head Craft Brewery’s Rehoboth brewpub, Brewings & Eats, collaborates with Surf Bagel, an iconic Delaware bagel shop, to brew DelaWeAre, a limited-edition black IPA benefitting the Delaware Brewers Guild. Clocking in at 6.3% ABV, DelaWeAre is brewed with an array of locally-grown malt, caraway seeds, black pepper and chopped pumpernickel bagels from Surf Bagel. Medium-bodied with a long, bittersweet finish, DelaWeAre boasts complex flavors of citrus, black pepper, caramel, fennel and anise. Releasing fromBrewings & Eats at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, DelaWeAre will be available for $17 per 4pk/16oz cans, while supplies last. A portion of proceeds from sales ofDelaWeAre will be donated to the Delaware Brewers Guild.

“When deciding on what to brew for the DelaWeAre project, it was instinctual to include Surf Bagel bagels in our IPA recipe,” said Bryan Selders, Brewing Ambassador at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats. “They’ve fueled so many brew days, we thought it was natural for the bagels to provide fuel for our yeast as well! The flavor profile of pumpernickel bagels is a beautiful pairing with a black IPA and together in one beer, it’s pure Delaware magic.”

Chock full of Delaware pride, theDelaWeAre initiative is a collective effort by the state’s independently owned breweries to raise funds and awareness for theDelaware Brewers Guild and local craft beer community. The Delaware Brewers Guild developed the base recipe forDela-We-Are and challenged the area’s brewers to put their personal twists on this First State-inspired IPA. While not many stipulations were set, theDelaware Brewers Guild asked that participating breweries create a beer reminiscent of Delaware culture; by utilizing locally-grown ingredients, working with a local chef or collaborating with a local business.Dogfish Head first released its version of DelaWeAre on draft in March. After much excitement from drinkers, the brewpub decided to re-release the beer in 4pk/16oz cans.

“The pandemic and its subsequent state-wide restrictions immensely impacted entrepreneurial companies that make beautiful and fresh local products, like craft breweries and Surf Bagel,” said Dogfish Head Founder & Brewer, Sam Calagione. “While many of the statewide restrictions in Delaware have been lifted, we believe theDela-We-Are initiative should live on. By brewing a second batch of DelaWeAre and releasing it in cans, we are hoping to not only draw more attention to the local breweries that lost business during the pandemic, but to show the world that craft brewers are strong, resilient individuals that are supportive of one another and determined to succeed, regardless of what life throws our way.”

Folks that stop by Brewings & Eats on Saturday, July 3, can not only pick up a 4pk of DelaWeAre, but they can enjoy the beer on draft alongside a delicious breakfast-themed special. Created in collaboration withSurf Bagel, the “Pumpernickel Up the Jams” breakfast sandwich features a limited-edition “Doughfish” bagel created exclusively for Dogfish Head with many of the same ingredients found in DelaWeAre – brewing grains, caraway seeds, peppercorns and more. Topped with local scrapple,Fifer Farm apple butter, Cabot white cheddar cheese, a poached egg and bitter greens, this special is sure to go fast. Grab one before they are gone!

Surf Bagel owner Dave Vitella believes that Sam and his team have set an example for those who have built businesses in coastal Delaware. “Not just for the successDogfish Head has,” said Vitella, “but for their commitment and love for the people who live and visit here. For them, for us, people come first. It’s gratifying to provide something that folks really enjoy and that showcases local interests and talents.Dogfish Head and Surf Bagel have been doing that for many years now. This new collaboration is a cool way to show our appreciation for the people who have been loyal to us for so long.”

Crying Eagle Welcomes New Head Brewer

June 23, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Crying Eagle BrewingLAKE CHARLES, La. – As part of their ongoing plans to elevate the Lake Charles area craft beer scene, Crying Eagle Brewing has announced the hire of a new Head Brewer, Ryan O’Donnell. A Mandeville, Louisiana native and veteran brewer, Ryan brings over two decades of brewing experience and a lifetime of inspiration rooted in the traditions and flavors of our home state.

After a successful career as a marketing consultant, Ryan left the corporate world in 2018 to pursue his dream of opening a brewery in the Mandeville area. Due to a variety of setbacks (including a global pandemic), those plans had not yet come to fruition. Upon receiving news that existing Brewmaster, Bill Mungai, had plans to relocate to Texas to be closer to family, Crying Eagle engaged Mr. O’Donnell and convinced him to relocate to Lake Charles and fill the position.

“My first dealings with Ryan were at our Louisiana Brewer’s Guild meeting” said Eric Avery – President of Crying Eagle. “I was always drawn to his energy and excitement of the industry and knew he was going to be a brewer to keep my eye on”. “I couldn’t be more excited about our future with Ryan leading Brewing operations.”

“Quite frankly, it seems to be a match made in heaven,” said O’Donnell of his teaming up with Crying Eagle. “It’s incredibly exciting to be part of such a welcoming, forward-thinking team… and to finally have a venue to showcase many of the beer recipes I have been developing for years. I also think it’s a truly exciting time to be in Lake Charles. Having lived through the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans area, I know that there are many good things on the horizon here.”

About Crying Eagle Brewing Company

Opened in 2016 in Lake Charles, Crying Eagle Brewing has launched several popular craft beers, five of which—Don’t Blush, Louisiana Lager, Strawberry Rye, Honey Wheat and Things Unsettled hazy IPA—are available exclusively at Crying Eagle’s Taproom. Crying Eagle takes its name from the word “Calcasieu,” which roughly translates to “crying eagle.” That was the name of the legendary local Atakapa Indian chief who charged into battle with a fearsome cry. Crying Eagle Brewing Company has set the standard for craft brewing in Southwest Louisiana, and its Lake Charles taproom offers limited-release beers, a world-class bistro, a broad selection of wines, spirits and specialty cocktails, local events and tours.

CANarchy Launches Canarchy Mixed Pack, Hazy Edition

June 23, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

CANarchy BrewingLONGMONT, Colo. – CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective announces the release of the CANarchy Mixed Pack, Hazy Edition, a 12-pack assortment of some of CANarchy’s hoppiest, haziest offerings. The Hazy Edition is now available in select markets.

A juicy, citrusy, hazy IPA from California shares a pack with a hop-ness monster from Colorado; a tropical, hazy enough brew from Texas and a fruit-forward hazy from Florida. Each hazy IPA in this mixed 12-pack is a top performer in its local market, brought together by CANarchy to form a supergroup of cross-continental proportions.

Because Deep Ellum and Three Weavers are typically distributed regionally, the CANarchy Mixed Pack allows beer lovers across the country to indulge in brews they typically wouldn’t have access to. Hazy fans, this one’s for you:

Cloud City by Three Weavers Brewing Company (6.5% ABV): This hazy IPA is soft on the palate and blazing bright with aromas of peaches, mangoes, and sunny citrus fruits. Take a trip with us to Cloud City, where the forecast is always juicy with a chance of haze.

Thick Haze by Oskar Blues Brewery (7% ABV): Not for casual fans of the hazy IPA style, Thick Haze is unfiltered to let flavorful, aromatic hop particles run the show. It’s nebulous with nom, obfuscated with “oh baby” and undeniably Thick with Haze.

Manic Confidence by Deep Ellum Brewing Company (6.5% ABV): Manic Confidence is a hot tropical island vacation dissected and reconstructed in the form of a refreshingly juicy craft brew. Sunny, sweet bitterness of Galaxy, Enigma, Comet, Strata, Citra and Idaho 7 hops floods the taste receptors, resulting in a salivating joy that leaves you craving more.

Fancy Papers by Cigar City Brewing (6.5% ABV): With notes of mango and tangerine, this double dry hopped Juicy IPA was developed with the same kind of craftsmanship and artistry that can be found in labels printed on fancy papers and applied to the lids of cigar boxes of yesteryear.

This hazy mixed pack is made possible by the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective – a group of craft breweries who have come together to stay independent. CANarchy’s mission is to bring consistent, high-quality beers to craft drinkers everywhere. That means more choices, new flavors, and better craft beer in a can.

About CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective

Ballast Point Brewing Co. Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Mix Pack

June 19, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Ballast Point BrewingSAN DIEGO – Ballast Point started out in the back of a homebrew supply store in 1996, fueled by a grassroots beer culture and a shared love of great beer. Irrespective of the journey, Ballast Point remains inherently San Diegan, a Southern Californian brewery that feels equally at home on the ocean in a fishing boat, surfing, at the baseball park, on the golf course, cycling, hiking, or tossing burgers in the backyard with friends.

To celebrate a quarter century of brewing, Ballast Point is releasing a new, limited-release 25th Anniversary Mix Pack. These beers embody the past, present, and future of Ballast Point with four classics that commemorate the journey along the way: Calico (Amber Ale, 1996), California Kölsch (German Style Pale Ale, 1996), Sculpin (IPA, 2005), and Big Gus (IPA, 2021).

“From our gritty Home Brew Mart to our big production facility in Miramar, Ballast Point concentrates on the beer and what it means to enjoy beer with friends,” says Brendan Watters, co-founder of Kings & Convicts Brewing Co. and CEO of Ballast Point. “We are going to continue innovating and sharing great beer and look forward to doing so for the next 25 years.” Ballast Point’s 25th Anniversary Mix Pack will feature 12, 12 oz. cans and will be available beginning mid-June initially in all Ballast Point tasting rooms and stores throughout Southern California.

About Ballast Point Brewing Co.

What started in 1996 as a small group of homebrewers who simply wanted to make great beer evolved into the team of adventurers known today as Ballast Point. A pioneering brewery born 25 years ago within the hallowed, hopped walls of San Diego’s Home Brew Mart, the complete art of the craft swims in the DNA of Ballast Point and informs both what’s inside and on the can. On March 2, 2020, Ballast Point officially returned to its iconic independent roots under the new ownership of San Diego-headquartered, Kings & Convicts Brewing Co., and continues to be an internationally recognized leader in the industry with five taproom locations in California and a San Francisco brewpub planned for fall 2021. From bringing a hoppy twist to a porter or adding four types of malt to its amber ale, to creating the breakthrough gold-medal winning Sculpin IPA, Ballast Point is known for adding its touch and asking if there’s a better way. Ballast Point brews over 50 styles of beer with an emphasis on R&D and innovation and is distributed in select markets across the US and internationally.

LA Duo Debuts ‘Soonish – Natural Beer’ Brand

June 18, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

LA DuoLOS ANGELES, Calif. – Now available in retailers and restaurants across Los Angeles Soonish – Natural Beer aims to shake up the alternative beer market. Inspired by heritage brewing traditions, Soonish is made with simple, wholesome ingredients: banana, millet, sorghum, and honey. The result is a refreshing natural beer, subtly tart with a hint of sweet citrus. At 4.2% ABV and 110 calories per 12oz can, Soonish is naturally gluten-free, low calorie and low sugar. Soonish is also non-GMO, unfiltered, and uses no added preservatives or flavoring, making it a lighter, brighter brew for any occasion.

Soonish was born out of the belief that good things take time to create. For over a decade, college friends & Soonish Founders, Chip Welsh and Greg Maiatico, struggled with digestive issues related to drinking gluten-based beer. They spent years seeking out – and sipping on – better beer alternatives, yet many products seemed to fall short. Seeing an apparent void in the alt-beer category, the duo decided to create their own. They partnered with Head Brewmaster Jon Carpenter and spent over two years developing Soonish which incorporates their favorite elements of beer, cider, hard seltzer, and kombucha. Soonish is a flavorful, refreshing, and light sipper that won’t weigh you down.

“In crafting Soonish we sought out an adult beverage that contained the lighter benefits of ‘natural’, while remaining ‘beer-like’,” commented Soonish Co-Founders Greg Maiatico & Chip Welsh. “We leaned on our experiences and understanding that people around the world come together to sip and smile over unique brews made from simple ingredients. We were inspired by this idea and wanted to share the same essence in a beverage that delivers on taste and digestive benefits.”

Soonish is formulated and packaged right in the heart of Los Angeles at Boomtown Brewery. Currently sold as a six-pack (suggested retail price, $11.99), Soonish is available across Los Angeles-area retailers, restaurants, bars and natural grocers such as The Waterfront Venice, Farm Shop, The Butcher’s Daughter, Bar Bandini and more. Soonish is also available through delivery platform Drizly.

“It has been exciting to join team Soonish and bring such a unique offering to LA,” states Brewmaster Jon Carpenter. “There has been a growing consumer interest around making beer consumption a healthier occasion. Soonish is a young brand creating a new wave of enthusiasm around natural beer as a category.”

About Soonish – Natural Beer:

Launched in 2021, Soonish is a Los Angeles-based brand inspired by global brewing traditions. Over two years in the making, Soonish – Natural Beer is born out of the belief that good things take time to create. Soonish is made from simple, wholesome ingredients of banana, ancient grains, and honey. Subtly tart with a hint of sweet citrus, it’s a lighter brew for any occasion. “We wanted this beer to celebrate solidarity with the Black community and the various aspects of culture that are a part of it,” explained Latiesha Cook, President and CEO, Beer Kulture. “So often it feels like solidarity is represented only by the color black. But that color by itself doesn’t adequately represent the depth of the culture. The traditional Juneteenth colors of green, red, yellow, and black on this new beer’s label show the richness of Black culture, while also representing everything celebrated on Juneteenth.”

Polotmavý is the Czech word used for the country’s amber lagers and roughly translates to ‘half dark’ in English. The 2nd Shift/Beer Kulture interpretation of the style is crystal clear amber in color and full bodied.

“The beer has a malty richness with those classic bready flavors you find in darker lagers,” explained Libby Crider, co-owner, 2nd Shift Brewing. “It also has a light sweet caramelness. It’s just enough to not overpower the flavor so that the beer finishes dry and crisp. It’s just what you want in an amber lager during the hot summer months.”

Polotmavý is available in 16oz can four-packs and on draft at 2nd Shift Brewing.
