The Virginia Beer Co. Unveils 6-Year Anniversary Release Lineup

April 7, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Virginia Beer WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – The Virginia Beer Company (401 Second Street, Williamsburg, VA) is celebrating its sixth anniversary in 2022 with a brand new slate of small batch releases.

“This is the first time in three years that we’ve been able to host in-person anniversary festivities with no big restrictions,” remarks Virginia Beer Co. Operations Manager Luci Legaspi. “So we wanted to come up with a ‘making up for lost time’ release calendar featuring a wide array of styles, leading us up to anniversary season on our way into Year 7 and beyond!”

The Virginia Beer Company kicks off anniversary celebrations annually with the return of Waypost — a series of ever-changing, small batch, barrel-aged Anniversary Stouts made available once per year each spring. In 2022, Waypost is an Imperial Milk Stout (10.4%) with four distinct vintages released for Year 6:

Blackberry Brandy Waypost (Blackberry Barrels)

Cascara Waypost (Bourbon Barrels with Coffee Cherries)

Sidecar Waypost (Cognac Barrels with Orange & Lemon Zests)

Mexican Chocolate Waypost (Bourbon Barrels with Cocoa Nibs, Cinnamon Sticks, Vanilla Beans, Ancho Chile Peppers, & Habañero Peppers)

“In years past, Waypost Week kicked off with the release of the new year’s Waypost variants and led us straight into our Freeversary party,” comments VBC Director of Sales Michael Rhodes. “The brewery’s official anniversary party is named after our best selling flagship India Pale Ale, Free Verse.”

To celebrate six years and the return of the Freeversary on April 9th (feat. food trucks, live music, & more), Virginia Beer Co. is planning for five additional 16 oz. can releases (ie, six total release events for Year 6) this spring to celebrate six years of beers & cheers…and to celebrate fighting through the last two years with the community that made it possible. The list of recipes includes two brand new collaborations brewed with Bearded Iris Brewing out of Nashville, TN:

Long Way (Hazy IPA collab with Bearded Iris Brewing)

About Time (Maibock collab with Bearded Iris Brewing)

Easy Verse (Session IPA variant of Free Verse Hazy IPA)

Flight City (Coffee Brown Ale collab with Column 15 Coffee)

No Ragrets (Super Smoothie Sour with Marionberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, Milk Sugar, and Vanilla)

“Fun fact: both of our breweries [The Virginia Beer Company and Bearded Iris Brewing] are celebrating six years in 2022. On top of that, VBC’s Brewmaster [Jonathan Newman] and Bearded Iris Brewing’s Co-Founder [Paul Vaughn] brewed together at SweetWater Brewing Company long before either of our breweries opened…” remarks Virginia Beer Co. Co-Founder Robby Willey. “…but this is the first time they’ve brewed together since! We thought it was pretty special that Jonathan & Paul were able to team up again, kind of symbolizing so many of us finally being able to gather together after the last two two years.”

All four Waypost Anniversary Imperial Milk Stout variants are now available (draft, 4-packs, single cans). Long Way Hazy IPA will be available starting on Friday, 4/8 (draft, 4-packs). About Time Maibock will be available starting in May (draft, 4-packs). Easy Verse Anniversary IPA will be available at Virginia Beer Co.’s 6-Year Freeversary celebration on Saturday, 4/9 (draft, 6-packs). Flight City and No Ragrets will be available at VBC’s 2022 Hangover Brunch / Getaway Bash on Sunday, 4/10 (draft, 4-packs).

All of the above listed anniversary releases are available in limited 16 oz. can formats exclusively at The Virginia Beer Company.

Paulaner USA Rolls Out New Munchner 12-pack

April 6, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Paulaner USAWHITE PLAINS, New York – Paulaner USA, the U.S. importer of the legendary Paulaner Brewery portfolio and other premium beverage alcohol brands, announces the release of its popular Paulaner Münchner Lager now available in a convenient new 12-pack. Answering consumer demand, the new packaging is the perfect size for parties, gatherings and outdoor events.

“As the warmer months near and more and more consumers begin to gather together, we recognized the need to provide a 12-pack offering,” says Steve Hauser, CEO of Paulaner USA. “Too often we hear that a six pack just isn’t enough, while a case may be too much. Therefore, our new Münchner Lager 12-pack is a great solution, offering the perfect amount.”

Centuries ago, Paulaner brewmasters were among the first to bring the lager to Bavarian taps. Today, it is considered one of the most popular lagers available in the world and is now offered in 11.2 oz bottles, 16.9 oz cans, and a new 12-pack option. Its success can be attributed in part to its superb recipe offering the perfect balance of malty character and the light bitterness of hops. It is a true classic with its clear, gold sparkling hue, crowned by a pure white head. A bier, which always goes down well, mild, elegant malts, with a hint of sweetness and a soft hint of hops in the background.

This Munich lager is ideal to pair with spicy dishes and spare ribs, making it the perfect edition for parties, BBQ’s, tailgating and more.

Since 1634, Paulaner has been dedicated to the art of brewing and strictly follows the Reinheitsgebot, Germany’s beer purity law. Today, Paulaner continues to offer a wide array of beer styles, including the Paulaner Münchner Lager, all created using a handful of select, high quality ingredients.

The new 12-pack Paulaner Münchner Lager is available now in 11.2 oz bottles. For more information on the Paulaner Brewery, please visit  Paulaner.com and follow us on Instagram and  Facebook.

Threes Brewing Releases New Doppelbock

April 5, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Threes BrewingBROOKLYN, New York – Threes Brewing releases End of Story.

A unique twist on a traditional doppelbock, End of Story was aged for a full 12 months in an oak Port Wine barrel. The resulting beer possesses a wine-like acidity and classic Port sweetness. The barrel imparted notes like raspberry, cedar, and dessert spice. These flavor and aroma combinations make End of Story very distinctive from traditional doppelbocks, often known for their toasted bread flavor.

Head Brewer, Matt Levy, calls End of Story “A true labor of love for a beer that we’ll never make again, and likely couldn’t even if we tried.”  Aptly named, End of Story is a one-off experiment available in very limited quantities.

April 4, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Catawba Island BrewingPort Clinton, Ohio — Catawba Island Brewing Co. has announced that the company will soon be hosting a beer release and fundraising event to support relief efforts in Ukraine early April.

“I’m excited to brew this beer and work with other people on trying to recreate something that someone else has done – and do it justice,” said the company’s head brewer, Justin Williams.

After receiving inquiries from people all over the globe asking how they could aid in relief efforts, Pravda Beer Co., located in Lviv, Ukraine, provided open recipes and beer label designs for its award-winning beers, aptly named “The Victory Series”. They then invited brewers from around the world to brew the beers and donate the proceeds back to their Ukraine Relief Effort.

Catawba Island Brewing Co. leapt at the opportunity to provide support and chose to brew Pravda Beer Co.’s dry-hopped golden ale titled Putin Huylo (which roughly translates from Ukrainian to English as “Putin, The Dickhead”). In honor of the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Catawba Island Brewing Co. has decided to distribute this beer in both cans and kegs under the name Slava Ukraini, which means “Glory to Ukraine”, and is how the president is known to conclude his speeches.

“We’re excited to be part of this global beer brewing effort to help raise money for Ukraine to defend their country,” said Catawba Island Brewing Co.’s owner, Michael Roder.

The Slava Ukraini beer will be released at CIBC’s fundraising event which will be held on Saturday, April 9th, at Catawba Island Brewing Co. from 12:00pm – 11:00pm. Profits from beer sales and fundraising activities will be sent to the Pravda Beer Co. Ukraine Relief Effort.

Patrons can follow the Catawba Island Brewing Co.’s Facebook Page for more details as they are released. Wholesale inquiries can be directed to NWO Beverage (N.W. Ohio), Beverage Distributors (Greater Cleveland Area) and Premium Beverage (Central and Southern Ohio).

marin brewingBy Brendan Moylan
On January 31st 2022, we will pour our final pint, serve our last Mt. Tam burger, and say goodbye to 33 years of Marin Brewing Company. I am heartbroken, but I am proud and I am grateful.

Proud of our role in the legacy of craft brewing and the countless awards we’ve won at the Great American Beer Festival.

Proud of the $500,000 we’ve donated to Schools, Clubs, Teams, Churches, and Organizations throughout our community and for 20 year partnerships like the Breastfest Beer Festival, raising over $250,000 for breast cancer.

Grateful to the 1000’s of employees that gave their all in the kitchen, on the floor, in the brewhouse, and behind the bar — and some, for decades themselves. A special thank you to our world-class brewmaster of 27 years, Arne Johnson, and Jenn Procopio our incredible GM for 30 of dedication.

And I am so, so grateful to the generations of families, the ferry catching office workers, the first legal pints, barstool regulars, and all who patronized our pub and made the pipe dream, of a much younger man, a reality. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for 33 years of support and the lifetime of memories. Come join us in our final days — we’re open from 11:30 daily.

If you love Brew Co. as much as we do, we do have a little bit of good news. We will be holding a silent auction of our iconically Brew Co. art and decor — including decades of hand drawn coasters — to raise money for our employee fund, as they no doubt feel the greatest impact of our closure. Stop on by and place a bid.

Reuben’s Brews Celebrates 10 Years With 10 Special Collaboration Beers

January 12, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Reuben's BrewsSEATTLE, WASHINGTON – It was a hot August weekend in 2012. The Blue Angels were screaming past overhead during their annual Seafair show. The PNW Summer was at its sweltering height. And a little operation known as Reuben’s Brews opened its doors for the first time with a tap list perfectly crafted for a scorching summer weekend: a Robust Porter, an American Brown, an American Rye, a Dry Stout, and a Roggenbier.

Ten years later, that little brewery with the unexpected tap list that Co-Founders Adam and Grace Robbings famously named after their first-born son has grown into a cornerstone of the nationally renowned Ballard Brewery District. And just as they were on that first day back in 2012, Reuben’s remains focused on pouring delight for people by brewing a wide breadth of beers that are balanced and highly drinkable regardless of style, helping people grow their love of beer.

“While we truly are just getting started and there is much more to come in the years ahead, we know that we could have never made it this far alone,” said Reuben’s Brews Co-Founder Adam Robbings. “The success of the past 10 years is a testament to the many different people and partners who have been along for the ride. From brewers who inspired and/or encouraged us, to accounts that believed in us, to our most loyal supporters in our mug club, the Reuben’s Crew, we wouldn’t be who we are without these wonderful friends. We’re excited to tell the story of our past 10 years through 10 collaboration brews with the amazing community that helped us get here.”

Kicking things off with a bang on January 7th, the first beer in the “10th Anniversary Collab Series” will be released: Metamodern PNW Amber Ale, a bold collaboration with Georgetown Brewing. Manny Chao, co-founder of Georgetown Brewing, is responsible for some of the classic PNW beers that first got Robbings excited about the world of craft beer, especially his eponymous Manny’s Pale Ale, so there’s no better place to kick off the series. To celebrate, Reuben’s is hosting a release party for this beer and the whole series of beers on January 15th at their Taproom, with Manny from Georgetown and Adam from Reuben’s making a special toast with members of the Georgetown Brewing and Reuben’s Brews teams in attendance. The 5.5% ABV, 35 IBU Metamodern PNW Amber Ale will be distributed in kegs and 4-pks of 16 oz. cans, as well as being available at both the Reuben’s Brews Taproom and the Georgetown Brewing Tasting Room.

And that’s just the beginning. Throughout 2022 the series will feature collaborations with partners from inside and outside of the brewing industry, all of which were integral to the story of Reuben’s over the past decade, including:

Brouwer’s Café & Bottleworks (February)

Fort George Brewery & Great Notion Brewing (March)

The Homebrewers Guild of Seattle Proper (April)

Ballard FC (May)

Hair of the Dog Brewing (June)

Chuckanut Brewery (July)

Phinney Neighborhood Association (July)

Our mug club, the Reuben’s Crew (August)

The Team of Reuben’s Brews (September)

Except for the barrel-aged blend created by the Reuben’s team which will be a Taproom-only brew, all releases will hit distribution in 4-pks of 16 oz. cans featuring a stunning “10th Anniversary Collab Series” can design that beautifully showcases each partner. Throughout the year, look for commemorative t-shirts, special glassware, and limited-edition merch on a release-by-release basis at the Taproom, and visit reubensbrews.com for all the details on the 10 collab beers celebrating Reuben’s 10 years.

From their everyday favorite beers to innovative new releases, they help you grow your love of beer. Reuben’s Brews. Beer Unbound.

The Reuben’s Taproom (5010 14th Ave NW in Ballard) is open daily 11am-10pm, featuring an expanded outdoor seating area and To-Go Store. They strictly adhere to all current state and local health precautions to keep their customers and team safe.
