Urban Artifact Redefines Brewing: Introducing Kilobyte, the Fruit Tart Born of Dedication and Collaboration

September 18, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

Cincinnati, Ohio – Urban Artifact, the trailblazing craft brewery renowned for redefining the boundaries of real fruit and fresh ingredients, proudly presents Kilobyte, an exceptional Fruit Tart that embodies dedication, collaboration, and a heartfelt investment in each and every sip.

With an annual use of over a million pounds of fruit, Urban Artifact’s fruit brewing expertise prompted them to proudly define their signature beer style as a Fruit Tart, since it wanders from many of the traditions of typical brewing styles. Why blend in when you’re born to stand out? A Fruit Tart highlights the real fruit ingredients used in each recipe, with a crafted beer backbone to balance and enhance the natural color and flavors. The brewery earnestly searches for and experiments with all types of fruits from around the globe, with a special expertise and love of berries.

After discovering Golden Raspberries, a rare gem native to the Himalayan Mountains, Urban Artifact found themselves at a pivotal juncture in 2019. Bret Kollmann Baker, Chief of Operations at Urban Artifact, successfully worked with a US farmer to cultivate a crop of Golden Raspberries exclusively for Urban Artifact Brewery. This marks the first time acres of berries have been cultivated, grown, and – after three years – harvested specifically for a Fruit Tart.

Kilobyte takes center stage with its unique use of Golden Raspberries as the only fruit in this Midwest Fruit Tart. This brew is more than just the sum of its ingredients; it also bundles in the captivating story of the Urban Artifact team’s extraordinary determination to find and brew with this unique fruit.

Kilobyte beckons beer and fruit tart enthusiasts alike to savor the essence of those golden Himalayan raspberries in every single sip. The golden color is illusive, not far from a normal cloudy pale ale, but the flavor and aroma is 100% raspberry. Perhaps a tiny bit more sharp on the palate than a ripe red raspberry. This juicy and sneaky 10% abv hides its power behind that forceful real fruit flavor.

Kilobyte is now available in select locations throughout their 20-state distribution footprint, on Urban Artifact’s website, and on tap at the Urban Artifact brewery. Beer and Fruit Tart aficionados, as well as connoisseurs of craftsmanship, are cordially invited to experience Kilobyte firsthand and partake in the celebration of this remarkable creation.

For more information about Kilobyte and Urban Artifact, please visit Urban Artifact’s Website.

Fibonacci Brewing Unveils Castanea No.9, The First of Its Kind Chestnut Beer

April 26, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Fibonacci Brewing Company is thrilled to announce the release of Castanea No.9, a beer born out of community gathering and a shared love of chestnuts.

Castanea No.9 is the result of a collaborative effort between head brewer Alex Rhinehart and the Southern Ohio Chestnut Company. During a planting party hosted by the company, Rhinehart struck up a conversation with chestnut grower and Route 9 Chesnut Cooperative member Amy Miller. They discussed the rich history of brewing with chestnuts and the potential for a revival of chestnut beers.

With the support of Rural Action and the Appalachian Staple Food Collaborative, Miller and Rhinehart set out to develop a unique chestnut beer. Castanea No.9 is the first in a line of chestnut-related brewing experiments, and it promises to be a hit among craft beer enthusiasts.

This brown ale is a testament to the power of community and the joy of sharing in the fruits of our labor. It is a celebration of the chestnut tree, which has a long history of bringing people together and providing community sustenance.

Alex says, “Bringing Castanea No. 9 to life with Route 9 Chestnut Coop and their community action partners has been a wonderful project. Amy and I first discussed brewing with chestnuts several years ago, and it is fulfilling to see that conversation come full circle. This unique chestnut beer is a tribute to the rich culinary and brewing history of the chestnut and a testament to the power of community. We hope beer lovers and friends can join us in enjoying our first beer brewed with chestnuts.”

Castanea No.9 is now available for purchase at Fibonacci Brewing Company’s taproom, located at 1445 Compton Road in Cincinnati, Ohio. We invite all beer lovers to come and enjoy this one-of-a-kind beer and to raise a glass to the spirit of community.

Sip Sip Hooray! MadTree Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

January 26, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Cheers to ten years. MadTree, Ohio’s first craft brewery to can their beer is officially a decade old and has become so much more than craft beer. Over its history, MadTree has moved into a new facility in Oakley, branched out and launched a vodka soda line, Sway by MadTree, and opened Alcove kitchen + bar in historic Over-The-Rhine. They have also joined 1% for the Planet, giving back 1% of all sales to local environmentally sustainable nonprofits, achieved LEED Gold certification at their Alcove location, and applied for B-corp certification.

“Fifty percent of small businesses fail within five years,” says Co-owner Kenny McNutt, “To be at a point where we’re double that mark along with all the new innovation and different areas of business we’ve tapped into is a testament to our community’s support and our employees’ commitment to the brand.”

It started as friends brewing together in a garage who took the leap to start a business doing something they actually enjoy. Now, it’s a company that is driven to produce the best products around while giving back to the community and connecting people to nature and each other.

“We’re so proud of how far we’ve come as both a company and as people,” says Co-owner Brady Duncan. “It’s been a whirlwind of ups and downs, but we’ve never been more focused and aligned than where we are now. The next ten years and beyond are going to be really exciting as we continue to build a brand that we want our kids and future generations to be proud of.”

MadTree is also bringing back their anniversary party, Bonanza, for the first time since 2020 on February 25th, 2023. Featuring a brunch bingo, cake baking contest with Cincinnati Magazine, rare beers from guest breweries, a DANCEFIX performance, live music, karaoke, food trucks, and more, this is going to be their best birthday bash yet.

“This is one of our favorite traditions here at MadTree,” says McNutt, “And it’s so nice to say that it’s finally back. Bonanza epitomizes everything we love to celebrate including our community, friends, local partners & businesses as well as other breweries.”

Like every purchase you make, 1% of all sales during Bonanza will be donated back to local nonprofits like Cincinnati Parks Foundation, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Adventure Crew, and Groundwork ORV.

Sonder Brewing to Open Second Taproom Location

January 19, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

MASON, Ohio – Mason, Ohio-based Sonder Brewing will soon open a second taproom location off I-75 at Union Center Boulevard. The new craft beer and kitchen destination will be located adjacent to Holtman’s Donuts and across from Topgolf Cincinnati at 9558 Civic Center Boulevard, West Chester, Ohio.

“We have searched for the right location for about two years,” states Justin Neff, President and CEO, “and we love the space and overall opportunity that this location offers us.” When Sonder was driving home deliveries during the Covid shutdown, they found that residents in the West Chester area were big fans of Sonder beer. Now, these consumers will be able to enjoy a Sonder experience in their backyard. Additionally, The West Chester property can be seen from both north and south bound I-75, which helps reinforce the Sonder brand visibility and awareness as they expand distribution further into Ohio and Kentucky.

The brewery will be calling their West Chester location Sonder Taphaus and Kitchen, and will offer more of an adult bar and event space than their current Mason Taproom and Beer Garden while still being family-friendly. There will be room for private parties and corporate reservations. The Taphaus will feature Sonder draft options and package-to-go beer plus a well-curated selection of wine, bourbon, and food.

“Our whole team loves the idea of building a food menu that fits the Uniquely Crafted excellence we boast in our beers,” says Director of Strategic Planning & Partnerships Haley Shutter, then jokes, “Cheese curds? You Betcha!” as a nod to their top selling Hazy IPA and her Wisconsin heritage. The Sonder kitchen at West Chester will have a simple, flavorful menu of shareables and seasonal items along with vegan and gluten free options–and, yes, a kids menu. Patrons will be able to easily order food from the bar or from a walk up counter where they will also pick up their orders.

Coming soon! Sonder plans to add to their story by opening the Taphaus location some time in 2023. Renovations of the space will commence as soon as permits are approved. The interior will have a similar feel to the current Mason location–comfortable, yet casual and welcoming with excellent Sonder beers and food.

The Sonder Brewing production facility and Mason Taproom and Beer Garden are located at 8584 Duke Boulevard in Mason, Ohio. The Mason location is just 1 mile off I-71. Sonder offers a portfolio of beers ranging from its top selling You Betcha! Hazy IPA and Voss Kolsch to award-winning seasonals and barrel aged beers.
