Round Trip Brewing Co. to Release ‘Mriya’ Kristallweizen to Benefit Ukrainian Refugee Efforts

April 15, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Round Trip Brewing CompanyATLANTA, Georgia – Round Trip Brewing to release ‘Mriya’ to benefit Ukrainian refugee relief on April 15. ‘Mriya’ is a a dry-hopped Kristallweizen (5.2% ABV) made with Sybilla hops from Poland for a herbal, floral finish.

“We’ve been heartbroken by the events in Ukraine and wanted help somehow. My Polish ancestral pride set in watching refugees make their way over the Polish border and this inspired us to source Polish ingredients for the beer. We teamed up with the Polish Club of Atlanta to find the ‘Happy Kids’ Foundation and we’re happy to support their mission with the sale of Mriya.” said Craig Mycoskie

Proceeds for Mriya will go to benefit the ‘Happy Kids’ Foundation, an organization based in the City of Lódz, Poland helping to evacuate and resettle children from orphanages and foster care. Information on the Happy Kids Foundation, including ways to donate, can be found on their website.

Label artwork for Mriya features a painting from Ukrainian-based artist Oleksandra Chorna. The artwork depicts the airplane named ‘Mriya’ that was the world’s largest aircraft before it as destroyed in the battle of the Antonov Airport. The Ukrainian phrase on the artwork translates in English to “To dream is not harmful. To dream is important”. The artwork and the aircraft inspired the name for the beer: Mriya, which translates to ‘dream’ in English.

Mriya Kristallweizen is a limited release available on tap and in six-packs to-go only from Round Trip Brewery’s taproom starting April 15.

Firestone Walker to Release Mind Haze Light

April 14, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Paso Robles, CA: Firestone Walker’s Mind Haze phenomenon continues to expand with the release of Mind Haze Light—a hazy IPA that delivers max flavor at just 100 calories per can.

Mind Haze Light is the latest entry into a family of IPAs that includes Mind Haze, Double Mind Haze and the Mind Haze Tropical Hazy Mixed Pack. It lands as a light, hazy IPA with high drinkability for the health-minded consumer.

“This is our ultra-sessionable riff on the Mind Haze experience,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “We borrowed several tricks from perfecting the original Mind Haze and packed them down into a low-calorie, low-alcohol edition that is loaded with tropical-citrus flavors.”

Mind Haze Light is now rolling out in the six-pack can (12-ounce) format and is locatable via theFirestone Walker Beer Finder.

Light Minded

Mind Haze Light is the latest stop on Firestone Walker’s hazy IPA journey that began with the release of the original Mind Haze in 2018, followed by Double Mind Haze last year. Now that experience comes full circle with Mind Haze Light occupying the opposite end of the spectrum at an ABV of just 4%.

Mind Haze Light shares considerable DNA with the original Mind Haze, including the same yeast strain as well as a grist bill that employs wheat and oats. The dry hopping blend is also similar, but with Mosaic and El Dorado hops pushed to the forefront.

“This was all about evolving the Mind Haze brewing experience into a lighter beer while maximizing the flavor and mouthfeel as much as possible,” Brynildson said. “Mind Haze Light is the kind of beer you’ll love to drink when you want the goodness of a hazy IPA without the heaviness or calories.”

Founded by brothers-in-law Adam Firestone and David Walker in 1996, Firestone Walker Brewing Company is a California beer company with three innovative brewing facilities. Firestone Walker’s main brewery in Paso Robles produces a diverse portfolio ranging from iconic pale ales to vintage barrel-aged beers. The Barrelworks facility in Buellton makes eccentric wild ales, while the Propagator pilot brewhouse in Venice specializes in R&D beers and limited local offerings. Firestone Walker is also the brewery behind 805, one of the nation’s fastest-growing beers. Firestone Walker was recently named “Best American Brewery of the Decade” by Paste Magazine.

Molson Coors Beverage Company Launches Five Trail Blended American Whiskey In Wisconsin

April 13, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Molson CoorsBardstown, KY – Molson Coors Beverage Company, the iconic beer producer with a two century foothold in the industry, announces the expansion of its first-ever whiskey, Five Trail Blended American Whiskey, into Wisconsin. This release marks the company’s first venture into the full-strength spirits category and is the debut release under the brand’s newest banner, Coors Whiskey Co. It will be sold for a suggested retail price of $59.99.

Initially launched in September 2021, Five Trail is the first premium whiskey by Molson Coors and establishes the evolution of the beloved beer brand as a beverage company. Still relatively new to the market, this expansion into the full-spirits and whiskey category has been an aspiration of David Coors for the past twenty years. When he was tasked to lead the company as it transitioned from beer to beverages in 2018, that dream became a reality. To bring the expression to life, David sampled well over one-hundred whiskies before landing on a blend of Colorado single-malt whiskey and three bourbons, cut to 95 proof with Rocky Mountain water. The expression is distilled, blended and bottled in partnership with the award-winning, Kentucky-based Bardstown Bourbon Company.

The result of this partnership is a unique, well-balanced blend artfully crafted by a team of five hands, helmed by a fifth generation member of the Coors legacy, both nods to the symbolic name of this special blend. On the palate, expect generous notes of sweet bourbon with hints of roasted nuts, honey, and caramel. The lingering notes of single malt are complemented by the spice of four grain bourbon and depth of wood and grain come from the 13-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon.

“I had been wanting to make a whiskey for a long time, and we made that dream a reality late last year,” explained David Coors, Vice President of Next Generation Beverages at Molson Coors. “Whiskey seemed like a natural progression, given malted grain is essential to its production and there were a number of distillers that were already using our malts in their expressions. We’re extremely proud of what we created and the reception has been truly incredible.”

“We’re still in the early stages of the Molson Coors Next Generation Division, but we think this is a really strong and unique whiskey we launched right out of the gate,” explained Pete Marino, President of Emerging Growth at Molson Coors. “When we were looking at next steps for the brand, we knew we needed to bring it to Milwaukee. The people here have been such strong supporters of Molson Coors and we wanted them to be a key part of our growth story as a company.”

Best enjoyed neat or in classic cocktails like a Manhattan or Old Fashioned, Five Trail is a whiskey for all, including the most seasoned of palates and those looking for an approachable entry to the category.

Furthermore, given its rich history in the brewing business, Five Trail will be a great whiskey for beer drinkers looking to dip their toes into whiskey.

For more information on Five Trail Blended American Whiskey, visit www.FiveTrail.com and follow along on social at @FiveTrail.

About Five Trail Blended American Whiskey

Five Trail marries Colorado provenance with the innovative distillation techniques of pioneering distillers in Kentucky and Indiana to produce this golden whiskey, using Coors malt from the brand’s brewhouse and the purest water in America, straight from the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Five Trail is founded in an Unbroken Spirit, spanning a journey that started nearly two centuries ago, with trails, tribulations, and an enduring frontier spirit. The Coors brand has been forged on expertise, knowledge, and influences of all five generations.

Orchard Skate Shop Teams Up With Castle Island Brewing To Create Castle Cruiser

April 13, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Orchard Skate ShopBOSTON, Massachusetts – Castle Island Brewing Company has teamed up with Boston-based skate shop Orchard to create CASTLE CRUISER, a 5.0% ABV dry-hopped pilsner perfect for the return of spring and skate season. You can find limited amounts of this beer at select bars and liquor stores throughout Massachusetts beginning this week, as well as special co-branded hats, tees, hooded sweatshirts and an online skate deck pre-order available at both Orchard’s

Can render courtesy of Castle Island Brewing

With Castle Island Brewing’s second taproom opening in September of 2021 and Orchard cutting the ribbon for their North End storefront last month, the two teams had a lot of common ground as a jumping off point for this collaboration, but a moment of fate sealed the deal.

“This past winter I was in line at my local package store waiting to purchase a 4-pack of (Castle Island’s pale ale) Candlepin, one of my go-to after work refreshments;” said Orchard owner Armin Bachman. “I noticed their new branding uses a similar font as Orchard and got lost in a daydream about getting the opportunity to work with a local brewery on a project.  The next day, in a moment of serendipitous manifestation, we got an email from longtime friend of the shop Ray (Trotta, Creative Designer for CIBC) asking if we would be down to collaborate on a beer together…the timing was unreal!” Bachmann continues, “We have a personal connection with every brand we carry at the shop, and we couldn’t be more stoked to work with Ray and the Castle Island team on our first beer collaboration.”

Castle Cruiser (Photo courtesy of Reagan Byrne Creative) Creative designer for Castle Island, Ray Trotta, spearheaded the effort to combine two worlds he’s so familiar with: craft beer and skateboarding. “About 14 years ago, I made my way into the original Orchard shop in Mission Hill for the first time. From then on, I’d always go there for new gear. I met a ton of friends skating their ramp and attending their art shows back in the day,” Trotta said. “Knowing nothing pairs better after a long session skating with friends than a few cold ones, we reached out and asked if Armin and the Orchard crew wanted to collaborate on a beer together. We ended up creating the vision for Castle Cruiser together and I’m so glad to see it finally come to life.” A limited run of 50 of these Castle Cruiser decks will be available for pre-order on Orchard’s website beginning at noon EST, Friday, April 8th.

An easy drinking stretch-in-a-can for the weekend warrior warm-up or after session cool-down, this crispy Italian-style Pilsner combines a classic malt bill with the perfect touch of Huell Melon and Saphir hops.

About Castle Island Brewing Co.

Their original location in Norwood, MA is home to a taproom and production facility, which is open to the public daily. In 2021 they opened a new location in South Boston, MA, three short miles down the road from the brewery’s namesake landmark. This new taproom offers guests a lineup of South Boston-exclusive beers, along with award-winning South Shore-style bar pizza from Bardo’s. The Virginia Beer Co. Unveils 6-Year Anniversary Release Lineup

April 7, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Virginia Beer WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – The Virginia Beer Company (401 Second Street, Williamsburg, VA) is celebrating its sixth anniversary in 2022 with a brand new slate of small batch releases.

“This is the first time in three years that we’ve been able to host in-person anniversary festivities with no big restrictions,” remarks Virginia Beer Co. Operations Manager Luci Legaspi. “So we wanted to come up with a ‘making up for lost time’ release calendar featuring a wide array of styles, leading us up to anniversary season on our way into Year 7 and beyond!”

The Virginia Beer Company kicks off anniversary celebrations annually with the return of Waypost — a series of ever-changing, small batch, barrel-aged Anniversary Stouts made available once per year each spring. In 2022, Waypost is an Imperial Milk Stout (10.4%) with four distinct vintages released for Year 6:

Blackberry Brandy Waypost (Blackberry Barrels)

Cascara Waypost (Bourbon Barrels with Coffee Cherries)

Sidecar Waypost (Cognac Barrels with Orange & Lemon Zests)

Mexican Chocolate Waypost (Bourbon Barrels with Cocoa Nibs, Cinnamon Sticks, Vanilla Beans, Ancho Chile Peppers, & Habañero Peppers)

“In years past, Waypost Week kicked off with the release of the new year’s Waypost variants and led us straight into our Freeversary party,” comments VBC Director of Sales Michael Rhodes. “The brewery’s official anniversary party is named after our best selling flagship India Pale Ale, Free Verse.”

To celebrate six years and the return of the Freeversary on April 9th (feat. food trucks, live music, & more), Virginia Beer Co. is planning for five additional 16 oz. can releases (ie, six total release events for Year 6) this spring to celebrate six years of beers & cheers…and to celebrate fighting through the last two years with the community that made it possible. The list of recipes includes two brand new collaborations brewed with Bearded Iris Brewing out of Nashville, TN:

Long Way (Hazy IPA collab with Bearded Iris Brewing)

About Time (Maibock collab with Bearded Iris Brewing)

Easy Verse (Session IPA variant of Free Verse Hazy IPA)

Flight City (Coffee Brown Ale collab with Column 15 Coffee)

No Ragrets (Super Smoothie Sour with Marionberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, Milk Sugar, and Vanilla)

“Fun fact: both of our breweries [The Virginia Beer Company and Bearded Iris Brewing] are celebrating six years in 2022. On top of that, VBC’s Brewmaster [Jonathan Newman] and Bearded Iris Brewing’s Co-Founder [Paul Vaughn] brewed together at SweetWater Brewing Company long before either of our breweries opened…” remarks Virginia Beer Co. Co-Founder Robby Willey. “…but this is the first time they’ve brewed together since! We thought it was pretty special that Jonathan & Paul were able to team up again, kind of symbolizing so many of us finally being able to gather together after the last two two years.”

All four Waypost Anniversary Imperial Milk Stout variants are now available (draft, 4-packs, single cans). Long Way Hazy IPA will be available starting on Friday, 4/8 (draft, 4-packs). About Time Maibock will be available starting in May (draft, 4-packs). Easy Verse Anniversary IPA will be available at Virginia Beer Co.’s 6-Year Freeversary celebration on Saturday, 4/9 (draft, 6-packs). Flight City and No Ragrets will be available at VBC’s 2022 Hangover Brunch / Getaway Bash on Sunday, 4/10 (draft, 4-packs).

All of the above listed anniversary releases are available in limited 16 oz. can formats exclusively at The Virginia Beer Company.
