Stormalong and Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing Company Release Hopped-Cider Collaboration

October 23, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Stormalong CiderSHERBORN, Massachusetts – Stormalong Cider, award-winning Massachusetts-based cidery, announced the release of IPC (India Pale Cider), a hopped cider made in collaboration with fellow local award-winning independent craft brewery, Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing Company. This is the first collaboration between the two Massachusetts-based companies.

This limited release cider features a blend of Gold Rush and Idared apples fermented with a Belgian saison yeast and dry-hopped with Mosaic and Simcoe Cryo hops. The result is a crisp 6.0% ABV cider with notes of citrus, floral, and tropical fruit enhanced by the hops

“As a cider maker our expertise is in apples, and brewers work with hops and grain,” said Shannon Edgar, founder of Stormalong Cider. “When we wanted to make a cider with hops, I went to our friends and talented team at Exhibit ‘A’ to help us work on finding a hop bill and approach for making hops shine in cider, while also keeping the fruit forward vibe of our cider in place. Yeast was also a consideration and we decided to use a Belgian Saison strain to also accentuate the hop flavors and blend the two worlds. It’s been awesome working with Matt and his crew and we look forward to another beer / cider project that we have been working on together as well slated for the Spring of 2023.”

“Our friends from Stormalong Cider joined us in the Exhibit ‘A’ taproom on a few occasions. We tasted through many ciders to determine the direction we wanted to go,” said Matthew Steinberg, Co-Founder and Head Brewer at Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing Company. “We knew we wanted the IPC to be relatively dry with a delicate acidity and discovered right away that the ciders fermented with Saison yeast would be a great fit with the hop character we planned to deliver. At Exhibit ‘A’ we use Cryo Hops in several of our hop forward beers. They deliver big bursts of aroma without the bitterness of traditional hops. Mosaic and Simcoe hops gave us the aromatic character we were looking for.”

IPC is gluten-free and made with carefully sourced local apples which are freshly pressed and fermented with care. No added sugars, concentrates, ‘natural’ flavors, or artificial ingredients. This cider is also made with Mosaic and Simcoe cryo hops sourced from the Pacific Northwest.  Only 100% real, whole ingredients.

It will be available for a limited time in 16oz can 4-packs at Exhibit ‘A’ Brewing’s Framingham, MA taproom and through distribution in select stores in Massachusetts.

Lawson’s Finest Introduces its Maple Ale Outside VT for the First Time

October 23, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Lawson's Finest LiquidsWAITSFIELD, Vermont – Lawson’s Finest Liquids is making its classic maple ale, Mad River Maple, available to fans across the Northeast. Beginning this week, the Vermont favorite will be available to craft-beer lovers throughout the brewery’s entire nine state distribution area of VT, CT, MA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, and RI.

Mad River Maple is a robust, rich maple ale brewed with 100% pure Vermont maple syrup. At 8% ABV, the beer delivers a smooth, palate pleasing feel with a slightly sweet finish. The beer’s name pays homage to Green Mountain State’s legendary Mad River Valley, home to both Lawson’s Finest Liquids and some of the region’s most sought after maple syrup producers.

“Mad River Maple was originally inspired by an old English homebrewing recipe that calls for molasses as a sweetener,” explains Sean Lawson, CEO and Founding Brewer of Lawson’s Finest Liquids. “Instead, we load Mad River Maple with some of the region’s best, 100% pure Vermont maple syrup. The early addition of bittering hops balances out the sweetness, resulting in a complex brew with layers of flavor.”

Mad River Maple is the newest addition to Lawson’s Finest Liquids calendar of specialty distributions. The beer arrives following the introduction of Lawson’s Finest Liquids’ black IPA, Big Hoppy, both as perfect seasonal flavors for fall. Both beers are now available in 4-packs at retailers across the Northeast. To close out the 2022 specialty distribution calendar, Lawson’s Finest Liquids will reintroduce its celebrated annual Barrel-Aged Winter Lager later this year.

Maryland Farms Join Forces with UMD and Flying Dog to Create Field Notes Pale Ale

October 21, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Maryland FarmsFREDERICK, Maryland – Frederick’s Flying Dog Brewery and the University of Maryland’s College of Agriculture & Natural Resources (UMD AGNR) have worked with two Maryland farmers to put even more homegrown ingredients into the brewery’s annual Field Notes Pale Ale. Since its launch six years ago, Flying Dog has brewed Field Notes as part of its long-running agriculture project with UMD AGNR, and in 2022, farmers from Carroll County and Harford County contributed wheat and barley to now pack this beer with natural cereal grains from Maryland.

Field Notes Pale Ale, at 5.6% ABV, is a crisp and refreshing fall beer that pairs perfectly with weekends spent cheering on the Terps. Brewed with hops harvested at UMD’s Agricultural Experiment Station in Keedysville, MD, and for the first time ever, locally sourced wheat from Panora Acres in Manchester, MD and barley malt from Chesapeake Malting Co. in Havre De Grace, MD, this beer could not be more Maryland.

There are no test brews for Field Notes, it is a one-time shot to see what notes come through, and Flying Dog is thrilled with this year’s result. Field Notes’ hops – Vojvodina, Glacier, Comet, Chinook, Sorachi Ace and Amalia – shine brightly and perfectly complement and balance the beer’s toasted grains.

“One of things we love about this long-term project with UMD is that it gives us an opportunity to shine a light on beer-centric agriculture and help revolutionize opportunities for local producers within the industry,” said Ben Savage, Chief Marketing Officer at Flying Dog Brewery. “We feel very lucky that we get to work on a project where we can reinvest in Maryland, spark an appreciation for the agriculture industry and take these high-quality crops from the farm to your fridge.

Flying Dog and UMD AGNR began working on the future of beer-centric agriculture in Maryland in 2015, with a goal of gathering research and laying the groundwork for a commercially viable hop producing industry in the state that mirrors the success of hop growing ventures in the Pacific Northwest. Alongside this project, a new fermentation science major was developed at UMD AGNR which will prepare students for careers in fermentation industries including beer and other beverages, but also food, dairy and biotechnology.

For Field Notes’ 2022 release, UMD Extension Program Principal Agent Bryan Butler connected Flying Dog with two local farmers who were eager to participate in this delicious agricultural project.

“We took a big step forward this year by incorporating local wheat and barley into the beer,” said Bryan Butler, Principal Agent in Agriculture and Food Systems at the University of Maryland Extension Program. “Now that we’ve begun to engage local producers, my hope is that down the road we can create more of a model where other breweries might be able to form meaningful collaborations with local producers and use more local ingredients in their beers.”

Panora Acres, Inc. is a family owned & operated grain and beef farm located in Carroll County, MD. Owned by the Sellers family since 1888, the farm grows a soft red Durum wheat that is usually used to make pretzels and other snack foods.

“Everyone likes beer, and it’s a different type of product than we normally work on so being involved in this project is really exciting,” said Harry Sellers, Co-owner of Panora Acres. “Being able to walk into a store and see a product on shelves that was made by crops you harvested is a really amazing feeling, and the fact that the product is really good beer just adds another layer of fun.”

Hopkins Farm, where the Chesapeake Malting Co. is located, was started in 1920 as a dairy farm in Harford County, MD. Four generations later, the Hopkins family still owns and farms the land which has grown to include grains, produce and even beer made at their own on-site brewery. This year’s barley harvest was a variety called Violetta, and the Hopkins family, who value supporting local farms, hope to continue to provide barley to local breweries.

“There’s a lot of potential within Maryland’s agricultural industry to grow new products and new varieties, so it’s really cool that a brewery as big as Flying Dog is putting so much time and energy into working with local farms,” said Aaron Hopkins, Brewmaster and Co-Owner of Hopkins Farm Brewery and Chesapeake Malting Co. “We’re thrilled to be involved in a project that raises awareness for local farms and instills Maryland pride in its consumer.”

Field Notes Pale Ale is available now exclusively in the State of Maryland in 6-packs of 12oz bottles. Consumers are encouraged to visit the brewery’s Beer Finder to find a store near them.

About Flying Dog Brewery

As the 35th largest craft brewery in the U.S., Flying Dog has a reputation for brewing premium beer that pushes the confines of traditional styles out of our home base in Frederick, MD. From hop-heavy favorites like The Truth Imperial IPA and Double Dog Double IPA to left-of-the-dial best sellers like Kujo Cold Brew Coffee Porter and Dead Rise Old Bay Summer Ale – we take pride in challenging the status quo. Our brand is built on the gospel of Gonzo, drawing inspiration from Hunter S. Thompson’s relentless truth seeking and Ralph Steadman’s provocative drawings. In the true gonzo spirit, when authoritarians have tried to censor our creativity, we’ve gone to Federal court defending our right to free speech and expression and won. At Flying Dog, we challenge conformity, embrace the weird, and encourage you to Cut The Leash and reclaim your independence.

About Colts Chocolate Co

The Colts Chocolate Company came from small beginnings in 1984. Founder, Mackenzie Colt, put her hand to the creation of amazing desserts and chocolates, which became highly coveted by friends, family, musicians and celebrities around Nashville. That popularity has now spread across the country to specialty shops, hotels and retail stores.  Colts remains a crafted-by-hand chocolatier to this day. Capture a true taste of Nashville as you enjoy our creative assortment of delicious chocolates and southern desserts.

About Tennessee Brew Works

Tennessee Brew Works is an independently owned and operated craft brewery that opened in 2013 with a mission to create high quality craft beer that pays homage to the land, traditions, and culture of Tennessee.

Tennessee Brew Works proudly introduced the state’s first all-Tennessee grain beers in 2018 with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. Our all-Tennessee grain State Park Blonde Ale is the official beer of the Tennessee State Parks and benefits the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy for the preservation of the state’s 57 State Parks.

We brew beers with integrity, using only quality natural ingredients and source them from local farms whenever possible. We cater to those that appreciate the difference. Tennessee Brew Works is owned and operated by folks in Tennessee. Our motto: “We work hard to create high quality craft beer that makes Tennessee proud. Our culture places importance on family, friends, and community, and we hope you’ll be a part of it.”

Autumn Arrives With Lone Tree Brewing Vanilla Caramel Amber

October 18, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Lone Tree BrewingLONE TREE, Colorado – It’s Vanilla Caramel Amber season at Lone Tree Brewing, where this autumnal favorite makes its return in cans for the sixth year. Look for this beer in canned 6-packs across Colorado and Kansas this season.

Originally developed on Lone Tree Founder John Winter’s homebrew system, this beer’s rich caramel and vanilla flavors are created with crystal malt and Madagascar vanilla beans— and no other adjuncts either. The base beer is a traditional American Amber with a good helping of hops to balance out the sweetness of the vanilla. This cold month staple is a drinkable 6% ABV.

Find Vanilla Caramel Amber as a rotating tap at the Lone Tree tasting room and select locations this fall and winter, and in cans across the brewery footprint in Colorado and Kansas. Locate Lone Tree beer with their website beer finder.
