42 North Celebrates ‘Lucky 7’ Anniversary

October 18, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

42 NorthEAST AURORA, New York – 42 North Brewing Company is planning a full weekend of events Friday, Oct. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 23 to celebrate its seventh anniversary. Under the theme, “Lucky 7”, 42 North has programmed the weekend with live music, taproom games, a Gear & Beer event, plus a special collaboration beer with Buffalo’s favorite whiskey bar, Lucky Day.

The celebration begins on Friday night when taproom favorite, the Leroy Townes Band, hits the stage. The Leroy Townes Band played 42 North’s First Anniversary Celebration in 2015.

On Saturday, the brewery will launch its collaboration beer with Lucky Day Whiskey Bar. This beer, a Gose, will allow customers to add their favorite fruit flavors to create their custom beer. Additionally, the tap keepers at 42 North will be mixing up some special cocktails for the celebration.

Throughout the afternoon, guests will also have a chance to win brewery merchandise. Saturday night, The Brothers Blue brings their Americana and bluegrass sounds to the taproom starting at 8 p.m.

Finally, Sunday, the 7th Anniversary Celebration wraps up with the 2nd annual Gear & Beer event in partnership with Mud, Sweat, n’ Gears. This event is a great opportunity to get ready for the winter sports season. In addition to a full offering of ski gear for sale, Gear & Beer will be attended by Holiday Valley, Swain Resort, Holimont, Buffalo Ski Center and other outdoor recreation partners from the region. A DJ will rock the beer garden in the afternoon, followed by the acoustic sounds of Owen Eichensehr and Pat Harrington in the taproom.

“Our theme for our 7th anniversary is built around being lucky,” stated 42 North Founder, John Cimperman. “And, for us, we are lucky to have a loyal customer base, exceptional employees, and a supportive community that allows us to do what we love. Quite frankly, without these, I am not sure we would have made it through the pandemic,” he added.

Ska Brewing 2022 Mexican Style Lager Dark and Euphoria Pale Ale Releases

October 17, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Ska BrewingDURANGO, Colorado – The leaves are turning and the beers at Ska Brewing are getting darker in color. It’s officially autumn in Southwest Colorado, marked by the release of Ska’s two cold month seasonals: Mexican Style Lager Dark and Euphoria Pale Ale.

Mexican Style Lager Dark hit Ska’s World Headquarters in Durango last week and is now available across its United States distribution footprint. Ska first introduced this dark lager in cans in January of 2021 to round out the winter months with a dark variant of the famed summer seasonal Mexican Logger. It’s a smooth and slightly sweet beer that’s balanced with mild bitterness, subtle caramel flavors, and a touch of roast on the finish. Just as Mexican Logger has come to signify the coming of spring in Durango, Mexican Style Lager Dark joins Ska’s long-established Euphoria Pale Ale as a lantern leading to winter.

2022 marks Euphoria Pale Ale’s sixteenth year in a can. This winter ale’s story begins at Purgatory Ski Resort for which the recipe was originally crafted, and travels to Silverton, Colorado where the brewery teams up with Venture Snowboards to create a custom, Ska-themed snowboard each year. The brewery will announce this season’s snowboard giveaway details on social media.

Euphoria Pale Ale returns to Ska on Thursday, October 13 with a celebration to include live music by Chuck Hank beginning at 5pm. The beer will be released to all of Ska’s distribution markets this week as well.

ABOUT SKA BREWING

Mother Earth Brewing Company Drops Annual Farm-to-Kettle IPA

October 17, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Mother Earth BrewingVISTA, California & NAMPA, Idaho – Mother Earth’s annual fresh hop beer has been a staple since it began in 2011 and was solidified as a bona fide winner in 2017 when it pulled a bronze at the Great American Beer Festival. Since the original brewery’s humble sourcing of local San Diego County fresh hops to their newer grown-up “Farm-to-Kettle” procurement, the goal is the same – get those hops from the bine to the brewery in the swiftest way possible. Fortunately for Mother Earth, their Idaho brewery affords them proximity to some of the country’s top hop farms, leading to some spectacularly fresh results.

“I think there is a misconception that all fresh hop beers are created equal, when in fact there are varying degrees of freshness. The moment those flowers are collected off the bines, they start oxidizing. Even when handled properly, they still need to be boxed and (hopefully) overnighted to their destination. That’s risky. We don’t have the same issues because we are driving them from the field to the brew kettle in a matter of hours. What that means is that you are getting the freshest product possible, and it shows.”

Chris Baker – Director of Brewing Operations, Mother Earth Brew Co.

Mother Earth’s ‘22 batch of Fresh as it Gets features Citra hops, well known for its Citrus, grapefruit, lime, and tropical fruits notes, which are further intensified when brewed with fresh vs. dried cones. The malt bill, appropriately, is just two grain varieties deep, combined with a neutral ale yeast strain – a perfect combo to lay the foundation for the star of the show – fresh Citra flowers.

Fresh as it Gets is available in 16oz cans and on draft at Mother Earth’s Idaho tap rooms and rolls out to distribution over the coming weeks. Not in Idaho? No problem.

About Mother Earth

Mother Earth Brew Co. develops hand crafted artisanal ales in year-round, as well as seasonal and specialty offerings. With multi-state as well as international distribution serviced by breweries in Vista, CA and Nampa, ID; Mother Earth’s award-winning beers help define and maintain the standard of excellence expected of independent craft brewers.

Green Flash Launches New Beers Across the U.S. and Unveils Refreshed Branding

October 16, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Green Flash BrewingSAN DIEGO, California – Green Flash Brewing Company celebrates 20 years of brewing world-class beers and announces the release of its new WEST COAST IPA lineup, which includes the iconic WEST COAST IPA beer and two all-new beers, Imperial West Coast IPA and Hazy West Coast IPA. This year-round lineup is available now in 12-ounce cans, nationally.

Green Flash’s new lineup of core beers celebrates its WEST COAST IPA roots, which helped define West Coast-style IPAs and put the San Diego-founded brand on the map.

The brand’s iconic West Coast IPA beer (7% ABV) is brewed with six different hops featuring complex layers of pine, floral, and ripe citrus tropical aromas.

The new Green Flash IPA lineup also includes:

Imperial West Coast IPA (8.9 % ABV), an amplified version of the classic WEST COAST IPA beer, featuring an epic wave of hops, delivering grapefruit zest bitterness supported by notes of dark caramel and finishing easy with floral and dry woodsy hop notes. Imperial West Coast IPA is also available in 19.2-ounce cans nationally.

Hazy West Coast IPA (6.5% ABV), brewed with Citra, Motueka, and El Dorado hops, delivers a wave of tropical flavors and aromas of pineapple, stone fruit, and lime with a bright, hazy appearance.

“These new beers are a celebration of the beloved West Coast-style IPAs, and our new packaging and branding reinforces our roots in San Diego, a special community that has consistently contributed to the prominent craft beer lifestyle. Green Flash is one of the original San Diego craft beers, and we’ll always have a deep connection to the people, coastline, and surrounding waters,” says Green Flash Creative and Brand Director, Aaron Grossman. “With our refreshed branding, we’re beyond excited to launch across the country and share the love of our WEST COAST IPA® craft beers.”

The addition of two new, year-round beers comes at an exciting time for Green Flash, as the brand is expanding its distribution across California and in new states, including Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, with plans to expand into nine additional eastern states in early 2023, including Alabama, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Green Flash remains focused on bringing its specialty craft ales to new communities from coast to coast. Starting in December, all three beers will be available in Green Flash’s new WEST COAST IPA Variety 24-pack at select wholesalers.

Green Flash’s new branding is designed to reconnect the brand with its proud roots. The packaging prominently features custom artwork by Matthew Jay Fleming, whose illustrations depict the vibrant San Diego coastline and capture the brilliance of the West Coast’s Green Flash, which is the optical phenomenon that occasionally occurs as the sun sets into the ocean below the horizon.

About Green Flash Brewing Company

Part legend, part luck, the elusive green flash is a San Diego sensation. But to us, it’s more than a burst of brilliant green light as the sun sets into the sea — it’s a magical moment that signals the end of an extraordinary day and the start of an epic night. Green Flash pioneered a new style of beer with its iconic WEST COAST IPA craft beer. Today, its talented brewing team is keeping Green Flash at the forefront of craft beer by innovating specialty ales that are uniquely Green Flash and introducing them to new beer enthusiasts around the country.

Green Flash Brewing Company is a lifestyle craft beer brand and a part of the SweetWater Brewing Company’s family of brands.

First Amendment Brewery Releases ‘Uncancellable’ Winter Ale Ahead of Free Speech Week

October 16, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

First Amendment BreweryFREDERICK, Maryland – As colder weather looms near, Flying Dog Brewery’s Freezin’ Season Winter Ale – the headline grabbing beer first released in 2021 – returns to shelves this month. Controversy surrounded Freezin’ Season’s launch when North Carolina censors banned the sale of Freezin’ Season in their state. But the dog fought the law and the dog won, and after a resounding victory for the First Amendment, Flying Dog is releasing the beer again this year just in time for Free Speech Week.

Upon its release, the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Commission (NC ABC) made the sale of Freezin’ Season illegal in their state because they didn’t think that adults should be allowed to decide for themselves what beers to purchase. The brewery was notified that its label for Freezin’ Season – illustrated by world-renowned artist Ralph Steadman and depicting a cartoon character standing by a fire – was rejected by the Commission for, inexplicably, being in “bad taste.”

Ardent defenders of free speech and freedom of expression, Flying Dog sued the NC ABC for violating its First Amendment rights. In May of 2022, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina ruled in favor of Flying Dog. According to the federal court judge, NC ABC’s regulation allowing it to ban labels that the commissioners in their sole discretion and personal opinion feel are “undignified, immodest, or in bad taste” is indeed a violation of the First Amendment.

“Fights to protect freedom of expression, as with all individual rights, are always fought at the margin – over issues like beer labels,” said Jim Caruso, CEO of Flying Dog Brewery. “In a case like this, it also highlights the lack of respect self-appointed government censors have for the self-determination of consumers. We believe that adults are smart enough to decide for themselves what books to read, what music to listen to, what movies to stream or what beers to buy.”

This marked another victory for the brewery that has a long history fighting against government censorship. Before the brewery went to court in North Carolina, it won previous First Amendment cases in both Colorado and Michigan over beer labels. Now in 2022, Freezin’ Season is hitting shelves in advance of Free Speech Week (Oct 17 – 23, 2022), a yearly event dedicated to raising public awareness about the importance of protecting free speech in our democracy.

If your sensibilities aren’t offended by a cartoon man standing by a fire created by Ralph Steadman, one of the true artists in the world, grab a 6-pack and snuggle up to this 7.4% ABV winter warmer this season. This spiced winter ale works from the inside, ratcheting up your inner temps with each delicious sip of dark fruit flavors on top of a malty backbone. And with an aroma reminiscent of baked cherry pie, Freezin’ Season is the ideal beer for crisp air and impending seasonal affective disorder.

Freezin’ Season Winter Ale will be sold in 6-packs of 12oz bottles and should start appearing on shelves by mid-October. Consumers are encouraged to visit the brewery’s Beer Finder to locate inventory near them.

About Flying Dog Brewery

As the 35th largest craft brewery in the U.S., Flying Dog has a reputation for brewing premium beer that pushes the confines of traditional styles out of our home base in Frederick, MD. From hop-heavy favorites like The Truth Imperial IPA and Double Dog Double IPA to left-of-the-dial best sellers like Kujo Cold Brew Coffee Porter and Dead Rise Old Bay Summer Ale – we take pride in challenging the status quo. Our brand is built on the gospel of Gonzo, drawing inspiration from Hunter S. Thompson’s relentless truth seeking and Ralph Steadman’s provocative drawings. In the true gonzo spirit, when authoritarians have tried to censor our creativity, we’ve gone to Federal court defending our right to free speech and expression and won. At Flying Dog, we challenge conformity, embrace the weird, and encourage you to Cut The Leash and reclaim your independence.

October 15, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Newport Craft Brewing NEWPORT, Rhode Island / NEW YORK, New York – In celebration of the 2022 edition of the World Cup, Newport Craft Brewing & Distilling Co. and Radiant Pig Beer Company are excited to announce their newest collaboration “It’s Called Soccer,” a limited run Kölsch.  Brewed with Hallertau Blanc Hops, It’s Called Soccer is light-bodied with pleasant citrus and floral notes.  With a can design inspired by the USMNT’s return to the international championship, It’s Called Soccer is a perfect, smooth beer to enjoy the matches.

“We wanted to make a beer that not only embraces the international spirit of the World Cup, but also to support the US Men’s National Team on its journey this November” said Newport Craft’s Head of Production, Scott Douglas.  “The resulting beer is a light and crisp Kölsch labeled with the stars and stripes to let our boys know that we’ll be cheering them on in Qatar.”

As the world gathers to collectively celebrate its passion for football, let’s do it with It’s Called Soccer Kölsch and proudly show our support for team USA.

Newport Craft will release It’s Called Soccer beginning at the end of October through the conclusion of the tournament in mid-December.  The limited run Kölsch can be found where Newport Craft and Radiant Pig are sold in the MA, NJ, NY and RI markets.

About Newport Craft Brewing Co.

Founded in 1999, Newport Craft Brewing & Distilling Co. is headquartered in Newport, Rhode Island and distributes its portfolio of craft beers and spirits throughout the United States.

Since 2017, Newport Craft has solidified the Company’s spot as a leader on the New England craft brewing and distilling stage by introducing new products and product lines, upgrading and expanding its manufacturing facility, and pursuing strategic acquisitions.  The Company currently brews beers of many styles, including its flagship creations Rhode Trip IPA and Save the Robots East Coast IPA, and experimental, limited run batches of various styles.  Newport Craft, together with its affiliated brands, is the largest combined brewing and distilling company (“Brewstillery”) in Rhode Island by production.

As announced earlier this year, Newport Craft has engaged Parker Construction Company of East Providence, Rhode Island, to bring an estimated $17 million renovation and expansion project of its Newport, Rhode Island facility to life.  The project will triple Newport Craft’s manufacturing footprint, create separate brewing and distilling production areas, open a new tasting room and provide private function event space.  The expansion will maximize the Company’s output by increasing annual production to 100,000 BBL and facilitate the storage of 5,000 barrels of aging spirits.  Newport Craft anticipates construction to be completed by the end of 2023.

Tröegs Celebrates 20 years of Mad Elf

October 15, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Tröegs Independent BrewingHERSHEY, Pennsylvania – Tröegs Independent Brewing announces the release of its iconic holiday ale, Mad Elf. Currently celebrating its 25th anniversary as a brewery, Tröegs reaches another milestone with the twentieth annual release of Mad Elf.

Back in the fall of 2002, Tröegs co-founding brothers Chris and John Trogner hatched a plan to brew a big, festive Belgian-style ale with cherries and honey to enjoy over the holidays. Little did they know that the beer would help put their brewery on the map and – two decades later – become a beer that is synonymous with the holiday season.

“Mad Elf captures so many things about the holidays for so many people,” says Chris Trogner. “And not just beer lovers. A lot of people who typically don’t drink beer have a special connection with Mad Elf.”

The essence of this once-a-year holiday ale, along with its ruby red glow, is born from five varieties of tree-ripened cherries. Bing, Lambert, Van, and Royal Ann contribute a bright and juicy sweetness, and Montmorency adds a touch of tartness.

In addition to cherries, Pennsylvania honey is the other key ingredient in Mad Elf. Each year, Tröegs sources 25,000 pounds of local wildflower honey from The Happy Beekeeper in nearby Carlisle, PA.

Whether it’s the beer’s festive nature, nostalgia, decadence, flavors or whimsy, many fans feel Mad Elf captures the holiday season in a glass.

“We like to say that it’s not the holidays until you’ve had your first Mad Elf,” adds John Trogner.

Mad Elf is available in 12-oz. cans and bottles at the brewery and throughout Pennsylvania starting this week, and everywhere else Tröegs beer is sold over the next few weeks. Look for Mad Elf on draft beginning in mid-November.

Holidaily Brewing Company’s award-winning beers have been shipped overseas in preparation for Germany’s first-ever gluten-free Oktoberfest celebration, taking place on October 29-30, 2022.

In addition to showcasing a variety of Holidaily Brewing Company’s gluten-free beers, the Oktoberfest celebration will feature traditional live music and dancing, gluten-free soft pretzels, a stein holding competition and a costume contest sponsored by Holidaily Brewing Company.

The celebration is part of the robust itinerary for Celiac Cruise’s European river cruise, embarking Ama Waterways’, the AmaLea, along the Danube River from Budapest, Hungary to Vilshofen, Germany. A 100% dedicated gluten-free cruise experience, Celiac Cruise offers sailings around the world.

As the official beer of Celiac Cruise, Holidaily Brewing Company’s beers will be available on board the upcoming European river cruise, presenting guests the opportunity to enjoy a variety of their certified gluten-free beers and interact with the founder of Holidaily Brewing Company, Karen Hertz.

“We are honored to have this opportunity to make history with Celiac Cruise,” said Hertz. “The Oktoberfest celebration is more than just a fun party, it’s an experience that many people in the gluten-free community thought they’d never be able to enjoy again due to gluten dietary restrictions.”

ABOUT HOLIDAILY BREWING COMPANY

In 2007, Karen Hertz was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and an autoimmune thyroid disease. After surgery and radiation treatments, her doctors recommended she adopt a gluten-free diet to help with inflammation and recovery.

As a beer lover, Hertz was devastated at having to cut gluten from her diet. She made it her mission to create world-class gluten-free beer, and thus the idea for Holidaily Brewing Company was born. After navigating a new gluten-free lifestyle for her family to support her son and husband’s Celiac Disease diagnoses, Maureen Basye decided to help thousands of people living a gluten-free lifestyle vacation without worry. She transitioned out of her job as a speech pathologist and became a celiac travel consultant. In 2018, she founded Celiac Cruise, an entirely gluten-free vacation experience.
