42 North Unveils Nocturnus Dark Lager to Celebrate Historic Eclipse

February 13, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

EAST AURORA, N.Y.— A once-in-a-lifetime event will occur in the skies above Cleveland, Buffalo, and Rochester as these markets fall within the ‘path of totality’ for a historic eclipse on April 8, 2024. To commemorate this once-in-a lifetime event, 42 North Brewing Company has unveiled Nocturnus Dark Lager.

Nocturnus is a traditional german-style Schwarzier crafted with pilsner, munich, and dehusked roasted malts. The beer boasts subtle notes of chocolate and coffee and, at 4.8% a.b.v., pairs perfectly with drinking in the afternoon darkness.

Nocturnus derives its name from Roman mythology. Nocturnus, as legend has it, is an immensely powerful being that has existed prior or since the beginning of time and is able to control, alter, and manipulate darkness with ease. Nocturnus will yield its power in the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024.

42 North will also be hosting a “Howl at the Moon” post-eclipse party at their East Aurora taproom with live music from Ten Cent Howl and the Leroy Townes Band.

Nocturnus Dark Lager will be available in select retailers in Northeast Ohio and Western New York.

42 North “Gr8Ful” for Eight Years

October 19, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

EAST AURORA, New York— 42 North Brewing Company is celebrating its 8th anniversary beginning Friday, Oct. 20th. Under the theme, “Gr8Ful 8th”, 42 North has programmed the weekend with live music, beer, and special events.

The celebration begins on Friday night when Grateful EA hits the taproom stage. Grateful EA, led by Aaron Ziolkowski, will bring to kick off the weekend’s festivities with a Grateful Dead tribute. The brewery will also release a special, limited edition Double IPA branded, Haze Ashbury, and special barrel house releases from the 42 Below Barrel House for the anniversary weekend.

On Saturday, the BuffaloveBus, a vintage 1972 VW van, will be on-site for photo opportunities. And, at 8 pm, 42 North favorite, The Leroy Townes Band, hit the stage for their annual anniversary show.

“Our theme for our 8th anniversary is built around being grateful,” stated 42 North Founder, John Cimperman. “And, for us, we are grateful to have a loyal customer base, an exceptional team, and a collaborative community that allows us to do what we love,” he added.

As 42 North enters its ninth year of operation, the brewery does have plans for expansion. In addition to a new taproom under construction in downtown Buffalo, 42 North is expanding its distribution to northeast Ohio beginning in November.

42 North Brewing Encourages Buffalo to ‘Listen Local’

January 24, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

East Aurora, New York– From the funk of Rick James to the rock hits of the Goo Goo Dolls, Buffalo has a long and storied music history. To recognize this history and support the local music industry, 42 North Brewing Company has launched a campaign that showcases the region’s music venues and encourages folks to get out and listen local.

The music clubs featured include the Asbury Arts Center, Buffalo Ironworks, Duende, Jack Rabbit, Sportsmens Tavern, the Town Ballroom, and the West Falls Center for the Arts. Each of these clubs hosts a weekly schedule of diverse, talented, and homegrown musicians.

The campaign kicked off with :30 commercials during the Buffalo Bills pregame show this past weekend and will continue with a video debuting on 42 North’s social media channels each week. The video series will culminate with a longer form video that features local musicians Tyler Wescott, Doug Yoamans, and Robbie Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls.

“It’s important to support these clubs and the local music community,” says John Cimperman, 42 North’s Founder. “In talking to a number of the club owners over the past few months, they are still looking to return to pre-pandemic attendance numbers. It’s also important to note that these venues also support 42 North and the local craft beer.”

Jason Hall from Sportsmens Tavern adds, “Local music, local clubs, and local beer go together. As a matter of fact, when bands come into town, they want to know what’s local on tap. So it’s important for us to represent Buffalo’s craft breweries.”

Buffalo’s music scene and beer scene have a lot in common, states Buffalo Ironworks Founder, Josh Holtzman. “They are both made by us, for us, and are very diverse and eclectic. We are proud to feature local craft beer at Buffalo Ironworks and appreciate the support of 42 North to promote local, live music.”

The final video of the series, which will debut in mid-February features Buffalo-native and founding member of the Goo Goo Dolls, Robbie Takac. Robbie talks about the importance and influence of Buffalo on the band’s development. Robbie also encourages Buffalonians to get out and support local music by stating, “The musicians are out there. You love them and they love you back. Go support them and make that connection.”
