Offshoot Beer Co. Launches Pathways Hazy IPA With Experimental Hops

September 23, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

ORANGE COUNTY, CA – Come join Offshoot Beer Co. on the path less taken with their newest seasonal: Pathways Experimental Hazy IPA. Bursting with tropical, citrus, and stone fruit aromas, this trailblazing Hazy IPA is hitting shelves across the country now.

The path to innovation is best travelled with friends — Offshoot partnered with friends at Yakima Chief Hops in Washington to use their experimental Cryo Pop™ hops. Working closely with their R&D team, Offshoot developed this 7% ABV Hazy IPA bursting with aromas of peach skin, creamy citrus, ripe pineapple, and fresh coconut that pours a perfectly hazy orange. The flavors follow suit with a hops-and-yeast based tropical medley of piña colada, orange peel, tangerine, grapefruit, and just a hint of freshly-cut grass.

What exactly are Cryo Pop™ hops? In 2017, Yakima Chief Hops launched their innovative line of Cryo Hops™ — a hop-processing technology that separates whole hop cones into two components —the bracht (the leafy outer portion of the hop) from the concentrated lupulin (the interior resins and oils). The concentrated lupulin pellets provide maximum aroma impact, hence the POP in Cryo Pop™, which in the case of this blend gives citrus, tropical notes, and sweet aromatics.

Stefan Weber, Production Manager for The Bruery and Offshoot Beer Co., says “Pathways was brewed with wheat and rolled oats for a soft, creamy mouthfeel. The Cryo method removes a lot of the vegetal characteristics from the hops, leaving us with a fruit-forward beer that packs a citrus punch. We had a lot of fun getting to play around with this unique blend; we brewed about 4 beers with these hops on our pilot system before dialing in the perfect recipe for Pathways”. Pathways is the perfect beer for sharing with friends, Weber notes “I have a camping trip planned for this weekend and the first thing I’m packing is a couple of 4-packs of this for my cooler”.

Pathways will be available in 16oz 4-packs across Offshoot’s distribution footprint this Fall as a seasonal release. For more information about where you can find these SoCal hoppy beers near you, head to https://www.thebruery.com/pages/offshoot-find.

Coronado Brewing Introduces Palm Sway Island-Style IPA to Its 16 oz. 6-Pack Portfolio

September 23, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Offshoot Beer Company

Palm Sway Joins the Company’s Year-Round Lineup of Award-Winning Beers, This September

SAN DIEGO – Hot on the heels of a huge gold medal win at the Great American Beer Festival, Coronado Brewing Company announces the launch of the company’s newest year-round offering, Palm Sway Island-Style IPA. The Island-Style IPA is an ale that delivers certain features of a hazy IPA (i.e. tropical, juicy), but finishes clear and crisp from the use of Cal Ale yeast. It’s loaded with an abundance of New Zealand and West Coast hops including Chinook, Citra, Comet, El Dorado, Mosaic, Motueka, and Waimea, giving the beer incredibly juicy, fruit-forward notes of pineapple, mango, stone fruit, citrus, and pine.

“In 2020, we brewed an Island-Style collaboration with our friends at Maui Brewing, and it was an absolute hit,” says Mark Theisen, Head Brewer of Coronado Brewing Company. “We knew that style would eventually be a perfect fit for our year-round portfolio, so we got to work in the brewery. After months of R&D, we were finally ready and extremely excited just to send the beer to be judged at GABF. The gold medal that came last weekend is simply icing on the cake.”

Palm Sway Island-Style IPA is a smooth drinking ale, crafted specifically to transport you to the island state-of-mind. Imagine cracking open that first beer, feet up, with a breeze rolling in at your favorite island paradise. For some people, that’s the white sand beaches of Hawaii, and for others, it’s the perfect shady spot under a palm tree in front of the Hotel Del Coronado. Wherever that place is where you can really escape from the real world, Palm Sway is brewed to take you there.

Palm Sway joins Coronado’s year-round 16oz 6-pack lineup alongside the company’s best-selling Weekend Vibes IPA and innovative newcomer, Orange Avenue Shandy. Palm Sway offers an entirely new and unique flavor profile to our year-round portfolio of beers. Our award-winning Weekend Vibes has an incredibly bright and crisp profile whereas, Palm Sway delivers a very juicy and tropical flavor experience. “The craft beer industry is heavily driven through India Pale Ales, and we absolutely have more room to grow within this style segment,” says Clinton Smith, CCO at Coronado Brewing Company. “Palm Sway is officially an award-winning IPA out the gates following the Great American Beer Festival, and the excitement for this launch is incredibly high between our team, distributor partners, and retailers.”

Palm Sway IPA debuts at Coronado’s three locations on Friday, September 24. The beer will be available in 16oz can 6-packs and draft throughout Coronado’s distribution network. For more information about Palm Sway, visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

About Coronado Brewing Company

Today CBC stays true to its San Diego roots, brewing abundantly hoppy West Coast-style ales, which are available today in 14 US states and 12 countries. In addition to the long-established pub in Coronado, the company opened a tasting room inside its San Diego production facility in 2013, and a tasting room and restaurant in Imperial Beach, California in 2014. Coronado Brewing Company was honored in 2014 with one of the brewing industry’s most prestigious awards—World Beer Cup Champion Brewery and Brewmaster for a Mid-Size Brewing Company.

Deschutes Brewery Releases Traditional Festive Winter Ale

September 22, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Deschutes BrewingBend, OR – Deschutes Brewery, family and employee-owned since 1988, announced the 34th release of Jubelale into their seasonal lineup. This year marks the first time Jubelale is also available in twelve pack cans. Jubelale is the first beer ever packaged at Deschutes, bottled straight from the taps at the brewery’s original public house for the holidays in 1988. Jubelale features spice notes and a robust malt character of toffee and dusted cocoa at 6.7% ABV and this year’s packaging presents original artwork by Stephanie Littlebird Fogel.

Every year since the early 1990s Deschutes has worked with the Oregon art community commissioning a local artist to create an original piece for this celebratory winter warmer.  Since then, Jubelale has been coined a “festive winter ale” and craft beer fans anticipate its release each year to welcome the new season with a fresh package design.

This year Deschutes implemented a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) audit which identified an opportunity to become more inclusive in the brewery’s search for the next Jubelale artist. The audit broadened the artist selection process by asking which artists had been invited in in the past, and if the method could be improved for the future.

Deschutes founder Gary Fish has always been close to the artist selection process. “This is a fine art project, not a graphic art project.” Gary said. “The process is a vehicle to showcase our local Oregon artists and artists clamor for this opportunity, but during selection we never knew who the artists were, we only looked at their portfolio and chose from their work.”

Looking for help in the community, Deschutes connected with friends at Caldera Arts. Caldera partners with artists to drive cultural and social change and they were generous to provide guidance on the artist selection process. This year the selection process was extended to include community members and Caldera Teaching Artists Mindy Stutzman and Mosley WOtta. The artist-brewery panel selected Stephanie Littlebird Fogel to design a piece for this year’s packaging.

Fogel is a Contemporary Indigenous Artist and member of Oregon’s Grand Ronde Confederated Tribes. Well-known and active in the Northwest art community, Fogel earned her degree in Painting and Printmaking from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, recently completing her residency program at Caldera.

“When I worked downtown in the Pearl District, I used to visit the Deschutes Brewery pub for lunch, so the brand really reminds me of laughter with friends and collaborators,” Fogel said about the project. “Working in collaboration with Deschutes Brewery was an amazing opportunity to translate my colorful style into a label design that reflects the magic and wonder of the winter season. We chose the moon as “subject” for the design and I wanted to depict that reflective, sparkling energy that can only be experienced on a snowy evening.”

Fogel creates art to inspire people to connect with nature and through her vibrant winter scene on this year’s Jubelale design, used her signature use of striking colors and pattern for an eye-catching package on the shelf using acrylic paints on a wood panel.

“We were very excited about this approach in our artist selection and hoped for something new and different this year,” said Veronica Vega, director of product development and part of the artist selection at Deschutes. “Steph’s wintery landscape painting invites you to remember full moon moments in the snow when magic drifts between the trees and twinkles. You can almost hear the beautiful stillness of the winter forest.”

As Bend legend has it, the winter scene on the packaging reflects how big the Central Oregon winter will be. With Fogel’s design, it’s shaping up to be a great winter.

Jubelale will release to all markets later this month in time for crisp sunny days and the tease of winter. This year Jubelale can be found in 12 pack cans for the first time ever, a perfect accompaniment for any winter adventure.

Stephanie Fogel’s work can be found on her website at stephlittlebird.com or Instagram handle @artnerdforever.

Patagonia Provisions Releases a New West Coast IPA

September 19, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Patagonia ProvisionsSausalito, CA – Patagonia Provisions, in partnership with Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB) in Portland, OR, has just released Patagonia Provisions Long Root IPA, a traditional West Coast style IPA made with organic ingredients and Kernza® perennial grain. Looking for solutions to repair our food systems, this third release in Patagonia Provisions’ lineup of beers represents another step towards transforming agricultural practices and supporting sustainable farming.

The entire beer line was recently rebranded and repackaged to include Patagonia Provisions’ name and logo.

In 2016, Patagonia Provisions’ partners at The Land Institute in Salina, Kansas, made a breakthrough in organic and regenerative agriculture with Kernza, the perennial grain used in Patagonia Provisions’ inaugural beer: Long Root Pale Ale. Released in October 2016, it was the first commercially available beer made with Kernza. The perennial wheat is ideally suited for organic and regenerative agriculture practices. Its long perennial roots thrive without pesticides, require less water than conventional wheat while helping to reduce erosion and remove more carbon from the atmosphere. Kernza also makes delicious beer. Patagonia Provisions believes the future of farming and our planet lies in organic and regenerative agriculture – a practice that restores soil biodiversity, sequesters carbon, and grows crops without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

“I am very excited to introduce our third beer made with Kernza, especially now under the Patagonia Provisions label,” says Birgit Cameron, co-founder and head of Patagonia Provisions. “Through Wes Jackson’s pioneering work at The Land Institute, Patagonia Provisions has been able to help bring this important regenerative perennial grain to the forefront with the hope that others take notice and implement similar practices. Beer is the perfect vehicle for this and a delicious byproduct of our collaborative work in regenerative agricultural practices.”

This refreshing West Coast-style IPA, at 6.2% ABV, has flavors of citrus and evergreen hops with a subtle bitterness and malty aroma to round out the experience. It’s light with a vibrant pop from the carbonation.

Patagonia Provisions chose Hopworks Urban Brewery to create its series of beers made with Kernza due to the brewery’s strong commitment to organics and sustainable brewing practices. Hopworks, experts in organic beer, is a B Corporation and is on a mission to revolutionize the brewing industry for the better.

Patagonia Provisions beers, available in 6-packs of 12-oz cans, are sold in West Coast independent grocery stores, select Whole Foods Markets and Northern California Trader Joe’s stores.

About Patagonia Provisions

Founded by Yvon Chouinard and Birgit Cameron in 2012, Patagonia Provisions offers ethically and responsibly sourced food and beverage products out of its Sausalito, California-based headquarters. A certified B-Corporation, the company is recognized for reexamining best practices in food sourcing, utilizing regenerative and organic growing methods, and working with like-minded advocates and producers to find solutions to the critical environmental issues facing the food industry. In early 2018, Patagonia, Patagonia Provisions, Rodale Institute, Dr. Bronner’s, and others launched the Regenerative Organic Certification (ROC), outlining robust high-bar standards for ensuring soil health, social fairness, and animal welfare.

About Hopworks Urban Brewery

Hopworks Urban Brewery strives to revolutionize and inspire the brewing industry with practices that drive quality, protect the environment and improve the local community. Utilizing organic malts and a combination of locally sourced, organic, and Salmon Safe hops, the company’s 20-barrel brewery produces 13,500 barrels of beer and cider a year for HUB’s brewpubs and distribution throughout the Northwest. Hopworks is a family-owned and operated business, the first Certified B Corporation brewery in the Pacific Northwest, a gold-level bike-friendly company, and recognized as one of the Best Green Companies To Work For In Oregon.

Two Pennsylvania Breweries Race to Brew a Hoppy Lager

September 19, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Pennsylvania Breweries Pottstown, PA – Sly Fox Brewing Company and 2SP Brewing Company are excited to announce the release of Dog Will Hunt Hoppy Lager, a new collaboration beer that will be coming to select mid-Atlantic taps and retailers in the next few weeks.

“This whole thing started when we were visiting our friends at 2SP, sipping on some delicious beers at their brewery in Aston,” recalls Sly Fox Brewing Company Director of Sales, Peter Giannopoulos. “Both being lager-loving PA brewers, we started talking about our favorite beers and lagers kept hitting the top of our mutual lists.”

Indeed, in the current hazy climate lagers are sometimes overlooked, so the teams at 2SP and Sly Fox decided to collaborate on a style that presented the best of both worlds.

The simple goal behind the collaboration was to make something that the brewers at both 2SP and Sly Fox would want to drink and, in turn, would be well-liked by fans of both breweries.

“It’s quite common for brewers’ go to beers to be the more nuanced, ‘session-able’ ones in their lineup, and that’s what we sought to incorporate into Dog Will Hunt.  If we’re getting together, let’s create something that’s both flavorful and a beer that we want to drink,” added Tim Ohst, Director of Brewery Operations at Sly Fox. While the beermakers were discussing the approach for the hoppy lager they discovered a mutual admiration for the American funk metal band Primus, and the team landed on an obscure soundbite for the beer’s name and label design inspiration.

Like the song for which the beer derives its name, the combination of notes is complex but there is something undeniably satisfying about both.

“We wanted to create a clean, crisp liquid that had some traditional German noble hop character in the flavor, but also explore some of the newer hop varieties coming out of Germany”, offered 2SP brewer Bob Barrar.

“Dog Will Hunt features the classic German hop variety Tettnang in the boil, but unlike traditional lager styles, we then dry-hopped this beer with a combination of Hallertau Blanc, Huell Melon, and Callista hops – enhancing the aroma with notes of berry, white grape, and lemongrass.”

The Sly Fox/2SP collaboration beer, Dog Will Hunt Hoppy Lager, will be released at the four Eastern PA Sly Fox pubs and 2SP’s brewery in Aston, PA on Friday, September 10.  Wider distribution, including to the six Two Stones Pub locations in Delaware and Pennsylvania , will start during the week of September 13.  This limited offering will be distributed throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

About Sly Fox Brewing Company

Since the inaugural brew in 1995, Sly Fox has been dedicated to brewing a wide variety of the highest quality beers. Its critically acclaimed year-round lineup and highly anticipated seasonals are available at the brewpubs in Phoenixville and Pottstown and Taphouses in Malvern, Pittsburgh, and Wyomissing as well as top restaurants and retailers in the mid-Atlantic. Sly Fox was the first craft brewery in the mid-Atlantic to implement a canning line and with it, earned the first-ever Great American Beer Festival (GABF) medal awarded to a canned craft beer. Sly Fox has earned many GABF medals since and is widely recognized among the region’s best and most enduring independent craft breweries.

About 2SP Brewing Company

2SP Brewing Company’s mission is to bring world-class beers from world-class brewers to the region. Founded by Michael “Stigz” Stiglitz who hand selected his 2SP dream team, the brewery has a very specific mantra: Pretentious? Never. Passionate? Always. Head Brewer Bob Barrar is a Delaware County native and has won over 30 Great American Beer Fest Medals and 11 World Beer Cups. True to style: that’s Delaware County and that’s 2SP. In 2015 Bob Barrar, one of the most awarded brewers in the country, got together with a few unemployables and opened a brewery in Delco. Their goal was to get Bob’s beers into the hands and lips of drinkers across the region. Now in their fifth year, they have been able to keep the lights on and get 2SP onto tap-lines and beer shelves across Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and…Japan!

Athletic Brewing Releases NA Festbier

September 18, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Athletic BrewingSTRATFORD, CT & SAN DIEGO, CA – Following the success of last year’s Sober Oktoberfest and 5K, America’s first exclusively non-alcoholic brewer Athletic Brewing Company is releasing America’s first non-alcoholic Oktoberfest brew. Perhaps no other beer style is as renowned as the Oktoberfest style but until now active adults looking to cut back on alcohol remained thirsty for this autumn seasonal. But the wait is over. In honor of the traditional Oktoberfest beers, this Festbier is brewed with German Vienna and Munich malts, and German Hersbrucker hops.

“Up until now, Oktoberfest beers for drinkers looking to keep their edge without compromising their social life have been missing. Our Oktoberfest should complement the fall seasonal beer category and allow a wider audience to take part in celebrations – even if this year’s Oktoberfest is in the comfort of our homes rather than at an outdoor tented party,” said Athletic Brewing co-founder John Walker. “Autumn is an exciting time for beer connoisseurs – and whether a person prefers alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages shouldn’t prevent them from enjoying the rich, complex flavors of an Oktoberfest beer.”

Athletic Brewing brews more than 15 styles – the largest range of any non-alcoholic brewery. Leveraging Athletic’s proprietary brewing process, their brewers developed a great-tasting, full-flavor Festbier. With just 80 calories and 18 IBUs, the brew has a golden appearance, clean malt flavor notes of bread crust and toast, a delicate sweetness, and a restrained bitterness.

About Athletic Brewing Company

We’re beer lovers at heart. But we also love being healthy, active, and at our best. These conflicting passions created an internal struggle. Why couldn’t these loves live in harmony? Yes, there was non-alcoholic beer – but we’re lovers of great tasting beer. Maybe it just wasn’t possible, but we had to give it a try. A few years and hundreds of recipes later, Athletic Brewing Company was born – the first brewery fully devoted to the production of non-alcoholic craft beer in the United States. Athletic Brewing crafts its innovative recipes using only pure, all-natural ingredients in small batches at our custom breweries on the East and West Coasts. Our intricate process lets you enjoy the refreshing taste of craft beer without the alcohol. So, whether you’ve decided to cut alcohol out of your life for good, for a night, or for just one drink, Athletic Brewing Company provides a flavorful option without compromise

Urban South Brewery Launches Benefit for Hurricane Ida Relief

September 18, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Urban South BreweryNEW ORLEANS, La. – Urban South Brewery has launched a new benefit in an effort to raise funds for those impacted by Hurricane Ida, one of the most powerful storms in regional history that made landfall on August 29, 2021. One dollar from every Who Dat six-pack purchased at the taproom or in stores, as well as a percentage of Who Dat pint sales at bars and restaurants that carry the beer, will be donated to the Urban South Coastal Harmony Fund.

Funds will be rapidly directed to organizations doing on-the-ground hurricane relief work in the southern region of Louisiana, plus those focused on the long-term work of rebuilding and fighting climate change. The brewery has set a $50,000 goal it hopes to achieve before the end of the year to help those in the community who have been affected by Hurricane Ida. Urban South’s New Orleans distribution partner, Southern Eagle Sales & Service, has generously agreed to match up to $12,000 in donations.

Southern Eagle Sales & ServiceFunds will be rapidly directed to organizations doing on-the-ground hurricane relief work in the southern region of Louisiana, plus those focused on the long-term work of rebuilding and fighting climate change. “As neighbors, colleagues and family members, we felt called to contribute to the rebuilding process that we know will be dealt with for many months to come,” said Kyle Huling, Co-Founder of Urban South Brewery. “Instead of doing a taproom release as we have in the past, we wanted to go broader with the hopes of raising more money. We couldn’t think of a better beer for this initiative than Who Dat, which is not only available throughout our distribution footprint, but is a representation of the cultural fabric of the state we love so much.”

Urban South created the Coastal Harmony Fund in 2020 in response to Hurricane Laura, which made landfall on August 27, 2020. The brewery raised more than $3,000 in taproom proceeds through the release of a limited edition Coastal Harmony beer. The brewery hopes to raise more funds for Hurricane Ida relief by choosing a beer available year-round in cans and on draught at bars, restaurants and stores throughout Urban South’s distribution footprint (currently Louisiana and Alabama). A phrase that carries the New Orleans spirit and a beer that embodies the “Who Dat” lifestyle, Who Dat Golden Ale is brewed with pilsner and flaked barley, fermented with a hybrid yeast to produce a crisp and refreshing sip. Citra hops and Hallertau Blanc add a punch of lemongrass, green grape and grapefruit.

BoochcraftSan Diego, CA – In collaboration with Maui Brewing Co., Boochcraft, the pioneer in the hard kombucha space, announces the release of Coconut Mamaki as their newest Liquid Art Lab flavor. The five-year-old hard kombucha company, which prides itself on using whole organic fruit and fair trade ingredients, teamed up with Maui Brewing Co. to create a new Boochcraft flavor that celebrates their shared values and complementary locations. This tropical and flavorful combination uses Hawaiian mamaki tea (well-known for its numerous health benefits), coconuts, and Southern California grapefruits. It’s perfect for sipping during the last long days of summer.

Coconut Mamaki is a part of Boochcraft’s Liquid Art Lab line – their creative playground for limited-release flavors, where fun flavor combos and inspiring art are combined. The artist behind this can is O’ahu-based Miriam Engel. The can’s design inspiration stemmed from colorists and landscape painters; Miriam has always been drawn to dramatic outdoor scenes and colorful interiors. In tasting Coconut Mamaki, the grapefruit refreshingly shines through with the subtle undertones and pleasantly sweet taste of coconut on the backend. Szechuan peppercorns bring citrus and herbal flavor to the surface, with the mamaki tea adding an intriguing herbal character. This collaboration flavor is juicy, refreshing, and carries an approachable herbal quality for a super pleasant drinking experience.

Boochcraft is the modern drinker’s alternative to big booze brands, fake ingredients, and underwhelming flavors. By bringing real, organic ingredients and supply chain transparency to alcohol, Boochcraft has created an unparalleled drinking experience. Boochcraft’s offerings are centered on bright, full flavors informed by whole fruit and live bubbling probiotics. Their relationships with smaller, organic, and family-owned farms enable Boochcraft to source ingredients straight from the farms and uniquely juice whole fruit in-house. This commitment is what sets Boochcraft apart. They offer a core collection of distinct and delicious flavors, including Grapefruit Hibiscus, Ginger Lime, Orange Pomegranate, and Strawberry Lemonade. Boochcraft has also become known for its seasonally limited and heirloom offerings, including fan-favorites like Passionfruit Blood Orange, Watermelon Chili, Mint Mojito, and Spiced Pear. Todd Kent, Co-founder of Boochcraft, is proud to bring this partnership to the table, “Maui Brewing Co. is a great example of a company that is living its values. We’re united in our commitment to making a high-quality product in a low-impact way, prioritizing the integrity of ingredients, and giving back to causes that matter. We’re proud to bring the fruits of our friendship to fans of Maui Brewing & Boochcraft throughout the country.”

Founded in 2005, Maui Brewing Co. is Hawaii’s largest craft brewery, a fiercely local company with its team working as stewards of their communities and the ‘aina, and curators of the craft beer way of life. Their beers have been recognized worldwide for quality and innovation. CEO and founder of Maui Brewing Co., Garret Marrero, touches on the partnership, “We’re stoked to bring this collaboration with Boochcraft to life. Beyond just having aligned values that are real: from making sustainability actionable to making great product from whole ingredients and no fake flavors.”

Coconut Mamaki, which is 7% ABV, will be sold in Maui and throughout Boochcraft’s 13 operational states on both west and east coasts.
