Hopworks Releases Abominable Winter Ale

October 9, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Hopworks

PORTLAND, Ore. – Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB), the first B Corp brewery in the Pacific Northwest, is releasing its winter seasonal, Abominable Winter Ale. The release will be complemented by a seasonal menu special called The Abominable Beastloaf Sandwich, a bison and grass-fed meatloaf with aromatics, herbs and spices sitting on a pub bun with a horseradish celery root spread, a thick-cut onion ring and house-made BBQ sauce. This special will be available at both Hopworks brewpub locations. Additionally, at the Powell Mothership, Hopworks is celebrating with live music performed by Hushfire starting at 7:30PM. Hushfire is a vocal-based acoustic trio based in Portland, Oregon.

“Mr. Abom is back from hibernation and ready to party! In his unusual reverse-hibernation cycle, he moves to higher elevations for the winter to feast on his beloved, frozen pine boughs, discarded energy bars and partial tailgate beers,” said Christian Ettinger, Founder and Brewmaster at Hopworks. “Be sure when moving through Abom country to clank unopened beer cans together and, of course, bring a decoy can to distract Mr. Abom in case of an encounter! If needed, shake your can, then open downwind and away from yourself, making sure to point the spray at the ground in front of Mr. Abom. Set the can slowly in front of him, making sure to avoid eye contact. Allow for a quick selfie before running like hell!”

Abominable Winter Ale ($10) is available starting on October 8 on tap and in 12 oz. 6-packs at grocers, bottle shops, and at Hopworks’ two locations on SE Powell Boulevard in Portland and SE Mill Plain Boulevard in Vancouver, Washington.

Abominable Winter Ale:

Abominable is a perfect blend of caramel malts and Simcoe, Cascade, Chinook, and Centennial hops, creating a complex, spicy, and citrusy winter ale. 7.3% ABV. 65 IBU. Releases October 8th.

21st Amendment Brewery Brews Up Winter Wonderland Beer for the 2021 Holiday Season

October 9, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

21st Amendment SAN FRANCISCO, California – 21st Amendment Brewery rings in the 2021 holiday season with their beloved winter spiced ale, Fireside Chat (7.9% ABV, 12 oz. cans in 6-Packs, Draft). Christmas comes a little early every year with the much-anticipated mid-October 2021 nationwide release of Fireside Chat to retailers, bars, and restaurants in 33 states. A flagship beer recipe of 21st Amendment’s San Francisco brewpub that’s evolved into an annual limited-edition winter warmer favorite, Fireside Chat is the perfect sipper at the Thanksgiving dinner table or while nestled up fireside with loved ones during the December holidays.

Lush and flavorful Ghana cocoa nibs from TCHO Chocolate (San Francisco, Calif.) add a deep layer of texture to Fireside Chat for a beautiful malt character of eight different malts. The English-style strong ale is well-balanced by Shaun O’Sullivan’s (Co-Founder and Brewmaster, 21st Amendment Brewery) select winter spices. It’s no wonder Fireside Chat took home a Silver Medal from Great American Beer Festival, and Men’s Health magazine ranks it #1 of the “10 Best Christmas Beers 2020.”

O’Sullivan notes, “Fireside Chat has a wonderful warming amber color, bright toffee foam head, soft spice profile, and a rich chocolate layer on the finish that’s quite elegant. We made some slight tweaks to the 2021 recipe that I think our beer fans will enjoy. I’m excited to see what they think. Also, the packaging features President Franklin D. Roosevelt (who signed the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution into law) having a jovial fireside conversation with an elf. Why not be like FDR and enjoy a Fireside Chat of your own this holiday season. I don’t think it gets much better than that.”

Since 2000, 21st Amendment Brewery has brewed innovative limited-edition holiday beers for people to enjoy and be a part of unforgettable memories.

Holiday Food Pairing Suggestions with Fireside Chat: Hearty Beef Stew; Oven Roasted Turkey; Creamy Risotto; Apple Crumb Pie; Pumpkin Cheesecake; and Tiramisu.

About 21st Amendment Brewery

Known for their witty names and delicious brews, 21st Amendment offers year-round selections, as well as seasonal offerings and their infamous once-in-a-while limited-edition releases. Ska Brewing Mexican-Style Lager Dark Returns

October 9, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Ska Brewing

DURANGO, Colorado – The days of seasonal disappointment over the loss of Ska Brewing Mexican Logger are over. Mexican-Style Lager Dark returns today, and will be available through the cold season.

Smooth and malty, this dark-colored lager is balanced with a mild bitterness from Tettnang, Cascade, and Saaz hops. Subtle caramel flavors and a touch of roast on the finish round it all out, giving it that warm darkness perfect for the chillier days ahead.

“We knew we needed an easy-drinking beer that could hold its own in the fall and winter months when Mexican Logger goes into hibernation,” says Ska Brewing COO Steve Breezley. “We spent three winters perfecting Mexican-Style Lager Dark— a true labor of love, and of lagers.”

In traditional Ska fashion, this tasting room favorite necessitated availability in a can. Following a brief late-season appearance in 2021, this fall marks Mexican-Style Lager Dark’s full-season debut. It will now be available until Mexican Logger returns in the spring. Look for it across Ska’s nine-state distribution starting October 5. The beer is on tap at Ska’s World Headquarters in Durango through fall and winter.

ABOUT SKA BREWING

Based in Durango, Colorado, Ska Brewing was founded in 1995 and produces more than a dozen award- winning beers fueled with Ska music, and lots of it. Pioneers in the canned craft beer movement, Ska Brewing is known for an array of styles in 12 oz cans that include Mexican Logger, Modus Hoperandi, and Rue B. Soho.

Tennessee Brew Works, Turner Häus Brewery, and Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey Release Collaborative Caribbean-Style Stout

October 8, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Tennessee Brew Works

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Nashville-based craft brewery Tennessee Brew Works, Chicago-based Turner Häus Brewery and Shelbyville-based Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey have partnered together to celebrate community through craft beer with the first collaboration of its kind in Tennessee, the limited release of their Caribbean-Style Stout, Queen’s Legacy.

Aged in Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey Barrels and crafted by Tennessee Brew Works’ Head Brewer Matt Simpson and Turner Häus Brewery’s Head Brewing Consultant Jason James, Queen’s Legacy’s ingredients are indigenous to the African Continent. The beer is brewed with 100 percent malted millet, the main grain used in Africa to produce alcoholic beverages. The hops used are from South Africa and the yeast strain produces a bouquet of fruity esters. The base beer is slightly sweet, balanced by dry coffee and roasted malted millet, supported by subtle fruity notes from the South African hops and yeast. The vanilla, oak, almond spice, and caramel flavors of the Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey barrels provide an additional layer of complexity and flair, making this beer truly unique and special.

Queen’s Legacy is named in honor of Uncle Nearest’s Master Blender, Victoria Eady Butler, the great-great-granddaughter of Nearest Green, a.k.a., Uncle Nearest, recognized as Jack Daniel’s mentor and the first known African American Master Distiller. Butler personally selected the Uncle Nearest Barrels to age the Queen’s Legacy. “Queen” is also meant to pay homage to all matriarchs that have a made a positive impact in our lives.

“Collaborating with Turner Häus Brewery and Tennessee Brew Works on this special release has been so much fun. Join us on October 23rd for a night of entertainment, Uncle Nearest cocktails, and of course, the reveal of this fantastic beer,” said Victoria Eady Butler, Master Blender, Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey.

This is the second collaboration beer created by Turner Häus Brewery and Tennessee Brew Works that celebrates community through craft beer.

We can’t wait for our guests to try Queen’s Legacy and enjoy a truly unique hand-crafted beer touched by the essence of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey,” said Christian Spears, Founder and President, Tennessee Brew Works.

Turner Häus Brewery was co-founded by Nashville Native, Steve Turner and is one of the first black-owned breweries in Chicago, Illinois. This year Turner Häus Brewery has moved their annual OkTurnerFest event to the Tennessee Brew Works brewery, which includes the ticketed event, the Queen’s Legacy release, and sneak peeks of some of their limited craft beer offerings.

“This collaboration is the first time in history where two black owned adult beverage brands – Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey and Turner Häus Brewery – have partnered together to produce a product of this magnitude,” said Steve Turner, Co-founder, Turner Häus Brewery. “Joined by Tennessee Brew Works, we collectively came together to create something uniquely historic for the industry. From the grain build, the barrels used and even the graphic on the label: it all showcases the advancements and successes of people of color in the craft beer and spirits industries.”

OkTurnerFest is Oct. 23 from 6 PM to 9 PM at Tennessee Brew Works in Nashville and will feature tastings of the new collaboration stout, Queen’s Legacy, a tasting of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey led by an Uncle Nearest team member, and featured Uncle Nearest cocktails, a sneak peek of Turner Häus Brewery beer releases, performances by Brassville, Jason Eskridge and Larysa Jaye, and a panel discussion that examines diversity in the alcohol industry. The event is co-sponsored by Lovenoise, Urbanite, Tennessee Brew Works, Turner Häus Brewery and Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey..

Proceeds from all ticket sales will benefit the new National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) located in Nashville, Tennessee. NMAAM is the only museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the many music genres created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans.

Tickets are now available for $75.00 each or two for $125 at Eventbrite. Doors for ticketholders open at 4:30 PM with the panel discussion starting at 6 PM. Tennessee Brew Works’ full dinner menu will be available for purchase until the first intermission.

Left Hand Brewing Goes ‘All Out for Stout’ This Season

October 7, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

Left Hand Brewing

LONGMONT, Colo. – Left Hand Brewing Company, renowned for their stouts and leaders in Nitro technology, is going “All Out for Stout” this season with three new releases. The independent craft brewery is releasing two stout seasonals for a limited time, S’mores Milk Stout and Black Forest Nitro Cherry Chocolate Stout. After a wildly successful debut in 2020, Left Hand is also bringing back The Milk Box variety pack with a brand-new lineup of four different milk stouts. To celebrate these new brands, Left Hand is giving away custom-designed Meier snowboards to four lucky sweepstakes winners.

At 6.0% ABV, S’mores Milk Stout is your favorite campfire treat all grown up. “We went through a lot of trials for S’mores Milk Stout,” said Jeff Joslin, Director of Brewing Operations at Left Hand. “Our brewers decided on a unique grain bill to exhibit graham cracker. We used Cholaca liquid cacao because it lent the best chocolate flavor, richness of mouthfeel, and authenticity of ingredient. These ingredients all come together with toasted marshmallow to create the perfect liquid s’more.”

Black Forest Nitro is inspired by the famous German chocolate and cherry layer cake. “This beer is a true indulgence and weighs in at 7.7% ABV,” said Jill Preston, Director of Marketing and Hospitality at Left Hand. “In one of my favorite can designs ever, you get a glimpse of the tart black cherries and aromas of rich chocolate cake that exude from this stout. To top it off, it’s on Nitro. All those flavors cascade on a canvas of millions of tiny bubbles. Each sip finishes with decadence and our signature super smooth mouthfeel.”

In addition to these seasonal packages, Left Hand is releasing the second version of their fall-winter variety pack: The Milk Box. The pure milk chocolate bliss of their classic Milk Stout is richly reimagined four different ways. In addition to the inclusion of S’mores Milk Stout, fans of their famous stout can now savor the spice blend of Mole Milk Stout, cool down with refreshing Mint Chocolate Milk Stout, and luxuriate in decadence with Double Milk Stout. “Our fans keep telling us they want more Milk Stout,” said Jason Ingram, National Sales Director at Left Hand. “We’re listening to you out there and bringing this variety pack back. Whereas last year we featured a few throwback styles, this year, we are proud to release The Milk Box with an entire new line of four completely new beers.”

“We’ve had countless ideas for Milk Stout riffs over the years, and now we get to play with them,” said Joslin. “These four are the ones that the whole brewery is most enthusiastic about, and they complement each other so well!”

In addition to the new lineup, Left Hand has also moved this package to bottles for 2021. “As we continue to navigate through the nationwide aluminum can shortage, we are making strategic decisions on packaging,” said Ingram. The Milk Box was one of our most successful releases of last year, and we had to double production to meet demand. With the reliability of glass, we knew it was the right call to make the switch to bottles for 2021.”

In conjunction with their releases, Left Hand is encouraging fans to participate in a sweepstakes to win a custom-designed Meier snowboard. “What better way to go ‘All Out for Stout’ than to go all out with one of our Artist Series snowboards?” said Preston. “The snowboard is designed by Left Hand’s Graphic Designer, Carly Igoe, and they have this edgy, whimsical feel in a comic book inspired layout. They really match the energy and vibe of the sport, and four lucky winners will be taking them home!” Winners can enter using a QR Code posted at retail locations across the country or enter online here.

S’mores Milk Stout is available in 6-packs of 12oz cans and on draft. Black Forest Nitro can be purchased as 4-packs of 13.65oz cans and on draft. The Milk Box features twelve 12oz bottles, 3 beers of each style, and each style is available in limited supply on draft. Check out Left Hand’s beer finder for locations nearest you as these brands hit shelves throughout October.

Jiant Launches Jungle Juice

October 6, 2021 by Dustin Scoggins

JiantJiant announces the launch of Jungle Juice, the modern beverage brand’s third hard kombucha to be released as part of their celebrated seasonal release series. Jungle Juice brings together sweet cherries, bright pineapple, zesty orange, and fresh-brewed hibiscus and yerba mate. Jungle Juice delivers a delightful splash of nostalgia, as an elevated and tropical riff on fruit punch. This light but layered blend is brewed from all organic and non-GMO ingredients, including Dragonwell Green Tea, sustainably-sourced honey, and real fruit.

“We drew inspiration for this seasonal release from the historical origins of Jungle Juice, which contrary to popular belief, did not originate in some fraternity but rather in the jungles of the South Pacific during World War II,” notes Jiant co-founder Larry Haertel Jr. “As the story goes, active-duty American soldiers stationed in the South Pacific lacked access to traditional alcoholic beverages. As a result, they turned to fermenting fruits, plants, and anything they could find in the surrounding jungle to create literal ‘Jungle Juice’.”

Jiant’s version is equally rooted in improvisation, combining unexpected ingredients to create a flavor profile that is both familiar and surprising. Like any good punch, Jungle Juice is fruit-forward, balanced, and party-ready. Starting in October, the 5% ABV hard kombucha will be available in 16oz single cans in select retailers across the country.

Jiant launched their seasonal selections in January 2021, bringing limited-edition offerings to market four times per year, kicking off the program with ‘Cool Beans’ and ‘Taco Tuesday’. Each launch highlights intriguing ingredient combinations that redefine hard kombucha’s flavor potential. Like all of Jiant’s hard kombuchas and hard teas, Jungle Juice is an invigorating choice for consumers seeking a transparent alcoholic beverage alternative.

 ABOUT JIANT:

Founded in 2019 by Larry Haertel Jr and Aaron Telch, Jiant views tea and botanicals as the perfect canvas for a new kind of adult beverage, one that doesn’t rely on conventional ingredients and has a nutritional profile more aligned with what today’s consumer wants. Their approach to hard kombucha, and now hard tea, is traditional in process but unconventional in results, offering beverages that are expressive and interesting while remaining accessible and surprisingly light.
