Sierra Nevada Joins Drinkers for Ukraine with Release of Anti-Imperial IPA and Donation

May 25, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Sierra NevadaCHICO, California – Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. announced a beer release and Taproom menu item benefitting the International Committee of the Red Cross humanitarian relief effort for Ukraine. The brewery is joining a global effort called Drinkers for Ukraine which has invited brewers from around the world to participate in a solidarity brew, benefitting the relief effort. Sierra Nevada has committed to donating 100% of the profits from both the beer and menu item.

Sierra Nevada’s unique take on the solidarity brew is a West Coast style IPA named RESIST Anti-Imperial IPA that is 7% ABV and 45 IBU. The beer is currently available on draft in the brewery’s Taproom located in Chico, California and in the Torpedo Room in Berkeley, California, and it will debut in the Mills River, North Carolina Taproom on June 9.

Supportive drinkers in select states may pre-order the beer in 8-packs of 16-ounce cans. Online orders of the beer will begin shipping mid-June through early July.

In addition to the fundraising effort through sales of RESIST Anti-Imperial IPA, a Ukrainian-inspired menu item called Hutsul Banosh will be available in the brewery’s taprooms in Chico, California Taproom and Mills River, North Carolina, coinciding with the release of the beer in each location.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams & Land-Grant Brewing Co. Team Up On Strawberry Oat Milkshake IPA

May 25, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Land Grant BrewingCOLUMBUS, OHIO – Land-Grant Brewing Company and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams have teamed up again on their fifth collaboration beer, Splendid Strawberry Oat Milkshake IPA, to be released ahead of their two-day celebration of Ohio’s Strawberry season this Memorial Day Weekend.

Jeni’s worked with Land-Grant to brew a decadent strawberry-forward Milkshake IPA that takes a cue from Jeni’s dairy-free ice cream offerings by utilizing oats and coconut flour to achieve its creaminess and subtle vanilla sweetness without the use of lactose.

“We don’t often do the full-on ‘Milkshake’ treatment – vanilla, fruit, lactose (or coconut flour, in our case),” said Land-Grant Head Brewer Dan Shaffer. “The opportunity to achieve this creamy texture utilizing coconut flour as a nod to Jeni’s masterful ‘Dairy-Free’ collection gives Splendid a nice nutty backbeat and a full body that complements the oats and perceived sweetness from the vanilla.”

Clocking in at a 7.75% ABV, Splendid Strawberry Oat Milkshake IPA features a berry-forward Belma and Barbe Rouge hops to enhance the fresh strawberry and subtle mango infusions, with aromas from vanilla bean that delivers a sweeter taste up front, followed by a slightly bitter finish from the hop/fruit/vanilla tannins that craft beer drinkers will surely appreciate.

Land-Grant will have Splendid available on draft and in 16 oz. four-packs – which will also be in central Ohio grocery stores – the week leading up to their fifth annual “Strawberry Jam” event with Jeni’s. Strawberry Jam – a family-friendly, picnic-style party making its return after a two year hiatus – also marks the annual release of Jeni’s Strawberry Buttermilk ice cream and the start of summer. The event will be hosted at Land-Grant’s Franklinton Taproom and Beer Garden over Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 28th and Sunday, May 29th from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.

“We started Strawberry Jam as a way to honor what we do well in Columbus—rural and urban culture together, community and collaborations, quality and character, entrepreneurship and vision,” said Jeni Britton, founder of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. “To have it return as a two-day event, alongside another artisanal Land-Grant collaboration beer, feels extra special. We can’t wait to kick off summer together.”

Land-Grant will also release two additional Jeni’s collaboration beverages – a Strawberry Tart Ale and a Strawberry Hard Seltzer – to celebrate the seasonal summer fruit. These two warm-weather refreshers will be exclusively available on draft during the Strawberry Jam weekend event.

Cape May Brewing Company Announces Release of Longliner Lager for Wholesale

May 23, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Cape May BrewingCAPE MAY, New Jersey – Cape May Brewing Company is excited to announce that their latest lager, Longliner, will be distributed in 12-packs of 12-ounce cans starting this month. Longliner Lager combines the best aspects of the company’s previous lagers to create a crisp, balanced, and sessionable beer to enjoy.

“Longliner has a little more hop character, and has a little drier and more crisp finish to it,” says Director of Brewing Operations James Fox. “It’s just as crushable. This is probably one of the best ones that we’ve made; it will be my go-to beer for the summer.”

Longliner is a 5.0% ABV lager brewed with pilsner and lager malt, Bohemian Lager yeast, and Saphir and Saaz hops for a subtle herbal and earthy hop aroma.

“To complement the ingredient notes, we opted for an earthy green color for this brand, and a more nautical theme to make it approachable for a number of consumers. This is a beer for those who want a clean, simple style to enjoy. There’s no fancy hops, or crazy extra ingredients—it’s just good beer,” says Marketing Director Alicia Grasso.

This brew is crafted to appeal to both casual drinkers and those looking for a refreshing beer to enjoy after a long day of work.

Longliner was first released in the Cape May Brewery Tasting Room last fall, and this is the first time that it will see distribution across the region.

Cape May Brewing is excited to delve back into their roots with a traditional style that both lager and craft fans can enjoy.

To celebrate Longliner’s distribution release, Cape May Brewing Company is offering a NOMAD® Grill giveaway to one lucky winner. The giveaway is live now and runs until July 31st, 2022. Customers can enter to win at Longliner point-of-sale displays at participating retailers.

Distribution in New Jersey has already begun, and distribution throughout eastern Pennsylvania will begin later this month, with Longliner 12-packs hitting Delaware starting in June.

About Cape May Brewing Company

CMBC started in 2011, with three guys making one beer in a 1,500 square-foot space. Now, between their administrative, production, and distribution facilities in Cape May and Egg Harbor Township, they have over 74,000 square feet of space and are still #brewingstrong at the Cape May Airport. They have several hundred flagship, seasonal, and small-batch brews under their umbrella, distributed throughout New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Their original space is now dedicated to experimental brewing and their award-winning Tasting Room, with a separate, industrial brewing facility across the street. Bridging the gap between the two is their new seasonal outdoor Brewtanical Garden, which provides guests with an alternative space to enjoy popular CMBC beers, complete with attached restrooms and its own bar and servers.

We Are Beer to Feature Brave Noise Collaboration at Festivals Across UK

May 23, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

We Are Beer Creators of festivals across the UK celebrating modern beer culture, We Are Beer, will feature a huge variety of the world’s finest beers at their festivals this summer. One such beer, Brave Noise, is a global collaborative effort from 262 breweries across the globe to provide inclusive and safe environments for women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ throughout the beer industry. The Brave Noise beer is a summery sessionable beer perfect for drinking across this year’s We Are Beer festivals, brewed in the UK by Lost and Grounded.

A celebration of brewing culture, We Are Beer’s festivals include Bristol Craft Beer Festival, Manchester Craft Beer Festival, Beer Central (Birmingham), Glasgow Craft Beer Festival and London Craft Beer Festival – which celebrates its 10th year this year. To add to the celebrations, Brienne Allen, Ren Navarro and Ash Eilot from the Brave Noise team will be attending this year’s festival in London. The core mission of the festivals is celebrating the creativity, diversity, and dynamism of modern brewing culture, keeping beer exciting, inspiring and outward looking; bringing new people into modern beer culture to enjoy it.

The Brave Noise collaboration was inspired by those who have shared stories about gender discrimination, racism, sexual assault, and sexual harassment within the brewing industry. Over 70% of women in the UK say they have experienced some kind of sexual harassment in public. By joining the Brave Noise initiative, alcohol-related companies must post their code of conduct publicly, commit to the long-term work for safe and discrimination-free workspaces, and donate a majority of proceeds to a non-profit that reflects the Brave Noise mission. We Are Beer in turn have published on their website their code of conduct, harassment and discrimination policies, and promote the Everyone’s Welcome Initiative, which We Are Beer have implemented since the initiatives launch in 2018.

We Are Beer stands firm and supports this important movement for change, diversity, and inclusiveness. Beer has always been a great unifier, and Brave Noise Brew is helping bring the industry together, facilitating conversations about how as a whole the community can do better, and create inclusive and safe environments for staff and consumers. Festival fans and craft beer lovers will have the chance to enjoy a fun day out while enjoying this delicious brew.

Greg Wells, We Are Beer founder says of Brave Noise:

“We have been so inspired by the Brave Noise Organisation and their important message advocating for safe spaces and inclusive environments by requesting breweries be transparent with their policies and commit to long-term changes.

“We will be promoting this message of inclusivity to all 30,000+ attendees coming to all our We Are Beer festivals across the UK this summer, with the US Brave Noise team even joining us on site at London Craft Beer Festival’s 10-year anniversary.”

Brienne Allan, Co-Founder Brave Noise, Brewer and Co-Founder of Sacred Profane Brewery and Tankpub said:

“Accountability, transparency and action. That’s what we want to see through the Brave Noise collab and initiative. It’s great to see We Are Beer festivals stepping up to create safe spaces at their upcoming events. We need to see more folks around the globe taking the initiative to create safe spaces at fests.”

Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers and The Fed Partner to Create Signature ‘Liquidity’ Beer

May 21, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Jack's Abby CraftBOSTON, Massachusetts – The Fed, British-inspired cocktail pub inside The Langham, Boston, and Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers of Framingham, MA announced they have partnered to create the signature ‘Liquidity’ beer.

“We are always looking for ways to support our local businesses,” said Kyung Lee, Director of Food & Beverage at The Langham, Boston. “This opportunity with Jack’s Abby was the perfect partnership that not only allowed us to create a signature beer, but also partner with an outstanding local brewery.”

Known for its hand-crafted cocktails and perfect pints, The Fed resembles a 1920’s era private cocktail lounge paying homage to the buildings inception as the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. This new Pre Prohibition style lager – ‘Liquidity’ features a light, slightly sweet and biscuit flavor with a crisp finish. It will be available on tap only at The Fed. The launch of this beer times perfectly with the opening of The Fed Terrace that overlooks Pearl Street.

“We love working on creative collaborations and a wide range of lager at Jack’s Abby.  So when the team at the historic Langham Hotel approached us to design a beer together for The Fed Pub, it was an easy yes,” said Rob Day, Vice President of Marketing Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers. “As The Langham celebrates 100 years we thought it would be interesting to look back to the opening of the hotel for inspiration. Unfortunately, that was shortly after prohibition was initiated which gave us the idea to do a Pre Prohibition style lager. It’s the perfect way to honor the past and look to the future.  It was a pleasure to brew with the team at the Langham and we’re thrilled to share this beer.”

More to come in the future with this partnership between Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers and The Fed.

Flying Dog Brewery Doubles Down on OLD BAY with the Creation of Double Dead Rise

May 21, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Flying Dog BreweryFREDERICK, Maryland – Each Spring, the team at Maryland’s Flying Dog Brewery is excited to bring back Dead Rise Summer Ale, the only beer made with the East Coast’s iconic OLD BAY seasoning. For the 2022 release, the brewery is doubling down on their spiced beer with the creation of an epic imperial version, Double Dead Rise. With almost double the ABV and more than double the McCormick’s OLD BAY, Double Dead Rise is double rare and double delicious.

In Double Dead Rise’s 9% ABV version of the hugely popular summertime beer, the bold spiciness of the OLD BAY and the lemony citrus notes are joined by a subtle heat brought on by the addition of habaneros. While a version of the beer was piloted as a tasting room only exclusive back in 2015 – when Flying Dog sold through 20 kegs in 48 hours – 2022’s Double Dead Rise is a new recipe that will be sold at retail for the first time ever.

“Here at Flying Dog, we don’t do anything small. So when it came time for the return of our annual limited release Dead Rise, we wanted to blow away consumers with the addition of an amped up imperial version,” said Ben Savage, Chief Marketing Officer at Flying Dog Brewery. “This one’s for the true fans, the ones that have OLD BAY cannisters stuffed in their glove compartment or attached to their belt loops in case they stumble upon a meal that needs that sprinkle of glorious seasoning.”

Dead Rise, the standard form of the beer, returns as a Summer Ale this year. The style, back by popular demand, is a change from the gose of previous years and contains more OLD BAY than earlier versions. Dead Rise carries a 5.7% ABV and the beer’s slightly salty sip of OLD BAY is balanced with lemon and citrus notes that help the flavors of any seafood on your plate pop.

While this beer should be on everyone’s ‘must-try’ list, its name, packaging, beneficiary, and obviously flavor, should resonate with those from Maryland, where OLD BAY runs through people’s veins. Once named ‘the most Maryland beer ever’ by The Washington Post, Dead Rise pays homage to the history of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay and summer crab culture while also supporting the local industry.

Dead Rise has become the beer Marylanders use to kick off summer and this year, Flying Dog has made moves to have Dead Rise named the first ever official beer of the State of Maryland. The brewery started a petition to have Governor Larry Hogan make an official declaration.

Dead Rise will be available in 6-packs of 12oz bottles starting in May. Double Dead Rise will also be available in May in 4-packs of 12oz bottles but distribution is limited to DC, MD and VA.
