New Sarum Brewing Company Joins Bevana

January 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

SALISBURY, North Carolina – New Sarum Brewing Company, the popular North Carolina brewery whose beers have won medals at the world’s two most prestigious competitions, will be joining beverage platform Bevana to grow its distribution and reach new customers across the country. Long a feature of the southern craft beer scene, the company will be placing its focus firmly on growth and on continuing the innovation that has led to it being one of the region’s most awarded producers.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be joining the Bevana Family! This partnership is built on quality, comradery and innovation, the same foundation that we built our company on from the very beginning,” said Andy Maben, founder of New Sarum. “Their vision and team of craft beer gurus are going to do wonders to bring our brand to a new audience of craft beer lovers. We’ve always taken pride in our high standards, while continuing to facilitate customer education and adapting to the ever-changing craft beverage market. This is the next step in our journey, and we’re excited to get going!”

Bevana will help to manage the distribution for New Sarum, giving the brewery the ability to focus its resources and efforts on continuing to foster the creativity and quality that earned it medals at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup, the two most highly-regarded competitions in the industry. Its core lineup, anchored by Hurley Park Blood Orange Wheat Ale and Old Stone House IPA will be joined by new and returning entries in the popular Griffin series, including the standout People’s Elbow, a Hazy IPA brewed with Coconuts and Lactose. New creations will be available both in retail establishments and in their Salisbury, NC taproom on a regular basis, carrying on the tradition of exciting innovation that customers have come to associate with the company.

New Sarum will additionally see expanded distribution through Bevana’s platform, which is designed to help the industry’s most exciting breweries to cut through the complex and often contradictory wholesale landscape to put the focus back on the customers. With their help, New Sarum will be able to not only access new markets and retail outlets, but connect more directly with the craft beer drinkers that continue to seek the highest quality beers available.

“We’ve been fortunate enough to know the folks over at New Sarum for years, and they really are a craft beer drinker’s dream brewery in so many ways,” explained Aaron Gore, Bevana’s Senior Director of Business Development. “As the industry has gotten more competitive, however, breweries like New Sarum have been increasingly trapped between a rock and a hard place of trying to just get their beer into the hands of customers. We are excited to be able to help navigate the difficult waters of distribution alongside them, so that instead of everyone worrying about the logistics of how we get these things into peoples’ hands, they can just focus on making the best quality beer possible. That’s what this industry was always supposed to be about.”

New Sarum’s beers will also be offered through Bevana’s online shop, where all of the platform’s beverage partners may be ordered and shipped directly to customers’ homes or businesses. With the ability to deliver beer to customers in forty-two states, it helps beverage makers and drinkers cut through the noise and the barriers that stand in the way of enjoying the best drinks that the world has to offer, regardless of location.

About Bevana

Bevana is a platform that connects artisan beverage makers with eager customers that they would otherwise be unable to reach. We find the best brewers on the planet and focus on managing the logistics of how they get their beer into the hands and mouths of drinkers, so that they can focus on the quality and innovation that built the industry. Enjoy the best beers in the world, without limitations.

Dust Bowl Brewing Launches The Gold 1 Blonde Ale

January 20, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

TURLOCK, California – Dust Bowl Brewing Co. kicks off the new year with the release of The Gold 1 Blonde Ale in six pack / 12oz. cans. The packaged offering comes on the heals of the draft introduction in the fall of 2022.

At 4.5% ABV, the year-round, core beer adds another easy-drinking option to Dust Bowl’s extensive portfolio. Brewmaster, Don Oliver, shares, “This is a crisp beer for everyday drinking. It’s very approachable and great for social settings. The Gold 1 provides a great option for those that seek a lighter style craft beer.”

The Blonde Ale recipe, in fact, won a gold medal at last year’s California State Fair Commercial Craft Beer Competition, which helped set the stage for an extensive marketing campaign to roll out The Gold 1. Retailers will be supported with a range of merchandising items, including farming and outdoor lifestyle imagery, display materials, coasters, glassware and more. The packaging features a bold, simple approach to catch consumers’ attention. The beer name and colors embark on a California vibe in poppy gold and blue.

“We’re excited to launch The Gold 1,” comments Marc Jalbert, Director of Marketing & Sales. “We believe the beer has a lot of potential for our wholesalers. The Blonde Ale category is a popular one among craft beer drinkers, and we’re confident The Gold 1 will resonate with these discerning consumers. Our packaging and marketing support are designed to grab their attention in a straightforward way. We know once they taste the award-winning liquid, they’ll be back for more.”

The Gold 1 joins a robust portfolio of beers and seltzers, including 14 year-rounds and a steady stream of packaged specialty releases. Dust Bowl products are distributed throughout California, its home state, as well as Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Arizona. The brewery also operates three taprooms in California, including its flagship taproom adjacent to the brewery in Turlock, the Tap Depot in the popular destination of Monterey and its latest location, the Old Town Tap House in Elk Grove, just south of Sacramento. A fourth taproom is slated to open in the San Francisco East Bay city of Livermore later this year.

Dust Bowl Brewing Co

Dust Bowl Brewing Co. produced its first beer in May 2009. The company is owned by Brett and Karen Tate and Brett and Camy Honoré, who became the Tate’s business partners in 2010. The company built and moved its production to a 30,000 sq. ft. brewery and taproom, located in Turlock, California, in June 2016. Dust Bowl Brewing Co. beers are available in 5.2 and 15.5 gallon kegs along with selected styles in 22 oz. and 12 oz. bottles and 19.2 oz., 16 oz. and 12 oz. cans. In 2022, Dust Bowl Brewing Co. was named “Brewery of the Year” by the highly regarded California State Fair Commercial Craft Beer Competition. The craft brewery showcases a wide variety of its beers and seltzers at its taprooms, the Brewery Taproom located in Turlock, California, the Tap Depot in Monterey, California, and the Old Town Tap House in Elk Grove, California.

Sonder Brewing to Open Second Taproom Location

January 19, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

MASON, Ohio – Mason, Ohio-based Sonder Brewing will soon open a second taproom location off I-75 at Union Center Boulevard. The new craft beer and kitchen destination will be located adjacent to Holtman’s Donuts and across from Topgolf Cincinnati at 9558 Civic Center Boulevard, West Chester, Ohio.

“We have searched for the right location for about two years,” states Justin Neff, President and CEO, “and we love the space and overall opportunity that this location offers us.” When Sonder was driving home deliveries during the Covid shutdown, they found that residents in the West Chester area were big fans of Sonder beer. Now, these consumers will be able to enjoy a Sonder experience in their backyard. Additionally, The West Chester property can be seen from both north and south bound I-75, which helps reinforce the Sonder brand visibility and awareness as they expand distribution further into Ohio and Kentucky.

The brewery will be calling their West Chester location Sonder Taphaus and Kitchen, and will offer more of an adult bar and event space than their current Mason Taproom and Beer Garden while still being family-friendly. There will be room for private parties and corporate reservations. The Taphaus will feature Sonder draft options and package-to-go beer plus a well-curated selection of wine, bourbon, and food.

“Our whole team loves the idea of building a food menu that fits the Uniquely Crafted excellence we boast in our beers,” says Director of Strategic Planning & Partnerships Haley Shutter, then jokes, “Cheese curds? You Betcha!” as a nod to their top selling Hazy IPA and her Wisconsin heritage. The Sonder kitchen at West Chester will have a simple, flavorful menu of shareables and seasonal items along with vegan and gluten free options–and, yes, a kids menu. Patrons will be able to easily order food from the bar or from a walk up counter where they will also pick up their orders.

Coming soon! Sonder plans to add to their story by opening the Taphaus location some time in 2023. Renovations of the space will commence as soon as permits are approved. The interior will have a similar feel to the current Mason location–comfortable, yet casual and welcoming with excellent Sonder beers and food.

The Sonder Brewing production facility and Mason Taproom and Beer Garden are located at 8584 Duke Boulevard in Mason, Ohio. The Mason location is just 1 mile off I-71. Sonder offers a portfolio of beers ranging from its top selling You Betcha! Hazy IPA and Voss Kolsch to award-winning seasonals and barrel aged beers.

January 18, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

SAN DIEGO, California – Thorn Brewing Co. is excited to announce the kick-off of a brand new series of hazy IPAs that highlights local San Diego artists.

“San Diego is home to so many amazing artists,” Thorn CEO, Marc Martin explains. “So for our Shades of Haze series, we reached out to local artists from each of the neighborhoods where we have tasting rooms. Each artist created a beer label for us and we will be hosting a release event featuring their art for each beer release.”

The first artist in the series is Hector Villegas, a first-generation Chicano from the historic neighborhood of Barrio Logan. His artwork is a blend of Mesoamerican glyphs, textiles, and 3D geometry that he calls “Neo-Mexika.”

“The Barrio Logan Art Scene is rooted in working-class Chicano culture,” Villegas shares. “It’s relentlessly resourceful and always the vanguard of new, exciting art forms. The art scene here has established artists as well as youth and up-and-coming folks. Venues and galleries come and go but there is always a pulse of artists making sense of the world through the Barrio lens. I encourage folks to suit up and show up to Barrio Logan to enjoy the scene. As long as you come here with respect, you’ll love the energy and vibe of this community.”

Two Roads Brewing Launches Portfolio-Wide Packaging Refresh

January 18, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

STRATFORD, Connecticut – True to its name, Two Roads Brewing Co. became Connecticut’s biggest craft brewer by taking its own, less-traveled path, always focused on delighting its fans while never resting on its laurels. That same ethos holds today, as the brewer embarks on its second decade with a more honed-in strategic approach to its business, its overall look, its brands, and its award-winning innovation.

The most visible evidence, unveiled today, comes in Two Roads’ first-ever, portfolio-wide packaging refresh – one that speaks to a more consumer packaged goods (CPG)-oriented approach to the brewer’s brand, shelf presence and marketing support. Retaining its iconic, fan-favorite crossed-arms logo, every Two Roads can, bottle and box now showcases a stronger master-brand architecture, greater emphasis on its sub-brands and styles, and a more modernly clean approach to design. While Two Roads’ original packaging helped establish the brand as a household name among discerning craft fans, the new design instills more consistency across all lines and products, enabling Two Roads to make a stronger, more unified statement on shelf.

Two years in the making, the refresh resulted from extensive internal and external research, including direct feedback from retailers and distributors and a series of consumer surveys, panels and focus groups.

“Our category is far more competitive than it was when Two Roads launched in 2012. Today, more than ever, craft brewers need to have branding that makes the selection process easier for the consumer: brands need to stand out, stand for something and have staying power,” said Brad Hittle, co-founder and CEO of Two Roads Brewing Co. “We’ve always been about taking the road less traveled, and our revamped packaging keeps that feeling front and center while making it easier to find us, identify our sub-branding and styles, and appeal to a new generation of craft fans.”

New Investments in Talent; Focus on Top Sub-Brands

The brewery’s evolution to a CPG mindset has it relying more on data to drive its business, marketing, and sales strategies. The shift resulted from the work of an internal task force formed during the pandemic charged with strengthening the company’s overall position and its leadership team with standout veteran beer and CPG executives.

General Manager Brian Hollinger, previously VP Operations at Dogfish Head, was hired to transition the company’s operations from “home grown” to “world class”, while on the commercial side, Brian Corrie was brought on as VP of Sales and Brian Duprey as Senior Director of National Accounts, both of whom have decades of experience working for top beer brands. Two Roads’ fortified marketing strategy – led by Collin Kennedy, who has more than a decade of experience in beer and broader CPG marketing – will help support their efforts.

Some of those executives were part of a newly-formed Business Insights team that used data and trade feedback to develop a revised and highly focused beer portfolio strategy centered on:

A deeper commitment to Road 2 Ruin – Two Roads’ Double IPA – as its flagship beer
Line extensions that leverage existing brand equity from other top performing SKUs like Lil’ Heaven and Two Juicy
Innovations that keep with its “road-less-travelled” mantra, including Juicy Box, an industry-first 16 oz. variety six-pack of hazy IPA’s
“Juicy Box took a total team effort and has been a huge hit; we are barely keeping up with demand. Consumers love the name and the product—a one-two punch for success,” Hittle continued.

Two Roads product development strategy also includes approaching “beyond beer” as a category that encompasses more than just hard seltzer and ready-to-drink canned cocktails. Within the last six months, Two Roads has released it first two non-alcoholic beers, Non-Alcoholic Juicy IPA and Non-Alcoholic American IPA, along with the first products from Two Roads Distilling: small-batch vodka and London-dry gin. Each was developed by the brewery’s renowned Master Brewer Phil Markowski and is currently available for sale at the Two Roads Brewery. They follow the brewery’s Daybreaker line of premium, vodka-infused ready-to-drink cocktails, available at retailers throughout southern New England. Each initiative emerged from the Markowski-run Area Two Experimental Brewing facility, which will continue to fuel smart innovation to delight evolving tastes.

About Two Roads Brewing Co.

Two Roads Brewing Co., launched in 2012, is a privately owned craft beverage company offering a wide-ranging portfolio of beers, canned cocktails, hard seltzers, distilled spirits, and other Road Less Traveled beverages. Located in Stratford Connecticut, Two Roads is ranked 54th among 9,500+ independently owned breweries in the US according to the Brewer’s Association.

Florida SMaSH Beer Festival Featuring Riverbend Malt and Yakima Quality Hops

January 18, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

LONGWOOD, Florida – The seventh annual Florida SMaSH Beer Festival will feature 35 breweries serving single malt, single hop beers made with Riverbend Malt and Yakima Quality Hops tapping Saturday, January 28 at Reiter Park.

Presented by the Brewers Establishing Altruistic Regional Development (B.E.A.R.D.) nonprofit organization, Hourglass Brewing, and the City of Longwood, the Florida SMaSH Beer Festival was created to celebrate the creativity and camaraderie of breweries in the Sunshine State. Participating breweries will craft beers made with Riverbend Chesapeake Pilsner malt and Yakima Quality Hops YQH-1320.

“Riverbend is honored and excited to be the malt selection of SMaSH Fest this year,” says Riverbend Malt House’s Georgia, Florida, and Alabama Territory Manager Tyler Adams. “This is a chance to taste how Southeastern malt really shines through in beer, and a celebration of the different flavors that Florida breweries have to offer.”

The winning beer is chosen by the attendees who vote on the S.M.a.S.H. beer that impresses them the most. The winner will receive the coveted, ever-evolving Florida SMaSH Festival Champions Lamp. Each winner takes this trophy home until the next SMaSH beer festival and garnishes it with their own additions each year.

Also during the festival, a Judge’s Choice competition will take place to award first, second, and third place medals.

This year’s Florida SMaSH Beer Festival proceeds will be donated to A Spoonful of Hope, Second Harvest Food Bank’s signature product line. One hundred percent of the proceeds directly support Second Harvest’s no-cost 16-week Culinary Training program, which provides qualified, economically challenged adults with the culinary and life skills training to pursue a sustainable career in the food industry.

“Florida SMaSH Beer Festival has the ability to show you how the same ingredients dont always mean the same interpretation of a beer,” says Bill Murphy of Hourglass Brewing. “It’s also a great way to see what the state as a whole can bring to the table. The best part is, it all comes back to the community.”

ABOUT B.E.A.R.D.

Brewers Establishing Altruistic Regional Development (B.E.A.R.D.) is a non-profit organization created by brewing industry professionals with a mission to serve their communities. Over 7 years, B.E.A.R.D. has successfully donated more than $45,000 to local charitable organizations such as A Spoon Full of Hope.

ABOUT HOURGLASS BREWING

Hourglass Brewing is now serving their 10th year, producing Seminole County’s first small batch craft beer. With two locations in the Orlando area and no less than 30 beers on tap they continually push for innovation while holding on to nostalgia, with a thirst for good times.

ABOUT RIVERBEND MALT HOUSE

Riverbend Malt House is on a quest to connect Southeastern family owned farms and fermenters. Co-Founders Brent Manning and Brian Simpson launched Riverbend, the first craft malt house east of the Mississippi River, in Asheville, North Carolina in 2010. Buoyed by a 70,000 square foot production facility and state of the art equipment, Riverbend Malt House helps breweries and distilleries large, small, and in-between stand out with flavor, locality, and community in an increasingly competitive landscape— all the while challenging the status quo of corporate, big-agriculture malt.

ABOUT YAKIMA QUALITY HOPS

YQH is a family-owned business focused on quality and service. Founded in 2013, Yakima Quality Hops provides the highest quality hops to breweries throughout the United States and abroad. Based in Yakima, WA, we work directly with growers, allowing us to offer the best pricing and quality control. We work with breweries of all sizes and in all stages of growth. SweetWater Brewing Company Celebrates 26 Years of Brewing

January 17, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

ATLANTA, Georgia – SweetWater Brewing Company, LLC (“SweetWater”), a subsidiary of Tilray Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ: TLRY and TSX: TLRY), announces its 26th Anniversary Throwdown, an all-day party featuring throwback beers, art and musical performances by Lotus, The Floozies, Dogs in a Pile, and Hedonistas. The event will take place on Feb. 18 at the Atlanta brewery from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.

“We’re stoked to celebrate 26 years of brewing with some killer jams, heady beer, local art and great food,” says Mike Boudreaux, SweetWater’s director of hospitality.

In honor of the craft beer drinkers who have supported the brewery over the years, SweetWater will be re-releasing popular seasonal and year-round beers in 2023 that customers have asked to bring out of retirement.

For its winter seasonal lineup, SweetWater is re-releasing Georgia Brown, a southern-style brown ale flowing with deep caramel and chocolate malts that create subtle nutty and toasted flavors. A former limited release that was a crowd favorite, Georgia Brown delivers rich cocoa notes with aromas ranging from roasted coffee to chocolate-covered fruit, which are exceptionally balanced with bitterness from Strata, El Dorado, and Sultana hops. Georgia Brown is now flowing at SweetWater’s Atlanta and Fort Collins taprooms, as well as taps in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

“SweetWater is pumped to bring back Georgia Brown, a crowd-favorite limited release. The winter months are the best time to enjoy rich, warming ales loaded with caramel and chocolate notes, so be on the lookout for this delicious brown ale at your local watering hole,” says Anna Ferro, SweetWater’s Director of Marketing.

For its anniversary party, SweetWater will bring back another popular beer, Exodus Porter, a Great American Beer Festival Medal winner that was retired from its year-round lineup in 2013. This limited batch of Exodus will be available on draft exclusively at the Atlanta taproom starting Feb. 18.

“We’re bringing back another oldie but a goodie for our anniversary party,” Ferro says. “It’s been years since we last brewed Exodus, and it’s one of the most requested beers consumers ask us to bring out of retirement. This party felt like the perfect time to do that.”

The anniversary concert will be headlined by Lotus, whose groove-based improvisations have been a mainstay on the jam circuit for more than two decades, and The Floozies, a live electronic duo that fuses bass-driven beats and funk.

The following ticket packages are now available for SweetWater’s 26th anniversary concert:

Limited-run early birds: $40 (no re-entry to event)
General admission: $45 (no re-entry to event)
Super Heady VIP: $75. (Includes 2 complimentary beers, concert poster, and access to VIP restrooms, bar, concert viewing area, and VIP gate with unlimited re-entry.)

The concert will take place at SweetWater’s Atlanta brewery, rain or shine. There will be very limited parking at the event, and SweetWater strongly encourages people to not drive, especially if they plan on consuming beer. Attendees must be 21 to enter.
