SweetWater Brewing Introduces New West Coast Style IPA

March 15, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

ATLANTA, Georgia – SweetWater Brewing Company, Atlanta’s craft beer trailblazer and the 10th largest craft brewer in the U.S., announces the launch of Gone Trippin’, a West Coast Style India Pale Ale (IPA) that pays tribute to the bold, hoppy beers SweetWater brought to the South more than 25 years ago. Gone Trippin’ is now available nationally year-round on draft and in 6-packs and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans.

Gone Trippin’ (7% alcohol by volume (ABV)) is assertively hopped with Cascade, Centennial, Crystal, Chinook and Citra varieties. This array of quintessential West Coast hops delivers bitter notes accompanied by pine, citrus and floral aromas that are well balanced by a malty backbone and refreshingly dry finish.

“We crafted this beer as a celebration of the long trip that’s taken us from the West Coast to the Southeast and back again — with many stops in Colorado. We’ve Gone Fishin’ and Gone Phishin’ for years, and now we’re Gone Trippin’. We’re getting back to our roots and absolutely stoked to release this hoppy love letter to Cali, wrapped in a funky tie dyed can,” said Nick Nock, SweetWater’s head brewer. “Gone Trippin’ is a big, yet easy drinking beer that’s incredibly balanced. It’s perfectly bitter, it’s hoppy, but it’s also rounded out with a malty sweetness.”

Gone Trippin’ is now flowing at SweetWater’s flagship taprooms in Atlanta and Fort Collins, Colorado. It’s also available in cans across Colorado, Georgia, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia at select retailers, including Total Wine & More, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Ingles, Publix, and Lowes Food. Distribution will expand to additional states later this year.

About SweetWater Brewing

One of Atlanta’s original craft breweries, founded 26 years ago, SweetWater Brewing is now the 10th largest craft brewery in the U.S. With two flagship breweries in Atlanta, Georgia, and Fort Collins, Colorado, SweetWater’s award-winning craft beers and ready-to-drink cocktails are available coast to coast and in more states than ever before. Inspired by the outdoors, SweetWater is a passionate advocate for healthy waterways and conservation initiatives. Through its annual Save Our Water campaign, SweetWater continues to raise funds to support nonprofit organizations fighting for clean water and habitat conservation, including the Waterkeeper Alliance, Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, and Trout Unlimited.?

The Virginia Beer Co. Announces Brand Refresh/Portfolio Realignment

March 10, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia— This week, The Virginia Beer Company formally announced a brand refresh that has been over a year in the making. The effort culminated with the official introduction of a new addition to its year-round lineup: Gorgeous, a 100% Citra IPA.

Gorgeous has been available in limited quantities in the past, but due to its overwhelming popularity, the Virginia Beer Co. team is excited to elevate it to the brewery’s core lineup going forward.

“We’ve been steadily introducing the market to the new look and feel of the packaging on our core beers since last spring,” said Chris Smith, co-founder of The Virginia Beer Company. “Brand refreshes take a lot of planning but have started to become a little more common in the industry. We thought timing the official announcement of the refresh around the new year-round status of Gorgeous would give our customers something to get excited about.”

Soft, citrusy Gorgeous Citra IPA (5.7%) joins three other freshly rebranded flagship beers: Elbow Patches (6.2%), Virginia Beer Co.’s award-winning smooth, roasty Oatmeal Stout – Saving Daylight (4.9%), an anytime citrusy American Wheat – and Free Verse (6.8%), the brewery’s best-selling Hazy IPA.

The new packaging represents a cleaner, more modern take for the 7-year-old brewery, whose original aesthetic skewed towards more of a retro look. The bright packaging, coupled with the fresh flagship beer and recent expansion to the entire state (including availability in large regional & statewide retailers), positions the brewery well for a big year. But ultimately The Virginia Beer Company – referred to by their founders as a force for good in the form of a brewery – wants customers to know that the brand refresh was done for them.

“We want people to really understand that when we get feedback, we listen,” said Robby Willey, co-founder of The Virginia Beer Company. “This was a collaborative effort that included feedback from everyone in our brewery’s family: our distributors, retailers, loyal customers, and the ‘VBC’ team all gave feedback on the brand refresh. We’re an incredibly community-conscious brewery, and we really treated this process like a community event. And we are really excited how this new look & feel reflects not just the liquid in the cans, but our whole brand identity these 7 years after first opening our doors & taps in 2016.”

About The Virginia Beer Company

The Virginia Beer Company is a brewery, taproom, and beer garden located in Williamsburg, VA’s Edge District. The brewery was founded by two graduates of nearby William & Mary, who shared a passion for philanthropy, community, and great beer. VBC is proud to have their beer available throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as in New York and in multiple countries overseas including Japan and France. Since opening in 2016, VBC continues to be guided by the principles shared by its core of founding team members: Beer · People · Purpose.

The canned Firestone Walker IPA Mixed Pack featuring Psychedelic Arcade is rolling out now to all Firestone Walker markets and locations. This pack also includes Hopnosis, Mind Haze and Union Jack.

Concurrently, a parallel bottled IPA Mixed Pack featuring Hop Fighters is rolling out to the California, Arizona and Nevada markets. This pack also includes Hopnosis and Union Jack.

Psychedelic Arcade: West Coast Golden Rye IPA | 6.3% ABV

Introducing Psychedelic Arcade—a West Coast Golden Rye IPA that goes full tilt on flavor. First created at Firestone Walker’s Propagator R&D brewhouse in Venice, California, Psychedelic Arcade was leveled up for this special release. A base of 2-Row and Rye malt sets the tone with expansive textures, while a blend of Galaxy, Strata and Nectaron hops delivers mind-blowing flavors of tropical fruit, blueberry and grapefruit. An IPA that you can bank on sip after sip.

Hop Fighters: West Coast IPA | 6.4% ABV

Also now landing: Hop Fighters, a new age West Coast IPA that is destined to invade your senses. A clean malt base of 2-Row and Munich paves the way for a high-flying blend of Cashmere, Chinook and Idaho 7 hops, all from the great Pacific Northwest. The result is an out-of-this-world shootout of citrusy hop flavors with hints of tropical fruit. The truth is not only out there—it’s right here in the bottle.

The spring IPA Mixed Packs also include the following Firestone Walker classics:

Hopnosis: Cold IPA | 6.7% ABV

Hopnosis is the culmination of Firestone Walker’s 15-year quest to master the IPA style. Brewed with Mosaic Cryo Hops®, Hopnosis is a seamless, aromatic and explosively tropical beer, employing Cold IPA brewing techniques to create an ultimate new-school expression of a West Coast IPA. The resulting beer delivers pure hop character with minimal bitterness, loaded with flavors of mango, passionfruit, white grape and lychee.

Mind Haze: Hazy IPA | 6.2% ABV

From the coast of California comes Mind Haze, a free-spirited beer made to elevate your perceptions—juicy, fresh and loaded with an imaginative array of tropical hop flavors. This is a hazy IPA done the Firestone way. Mind Haze is ultimately a beer that breaks the mold with explosive hop aromas; juicy, fruity flavors; and a true hazy-style mouthfeel.

Union Jack: West Coast IPA | 7% ABV

Huge flavor that packs a punch. This is Union Jack—an icon of the West Coast IPA style, for those who like their beer loud and proud. Union Jack is the IPA that helped blaze the trail for the revolutionary West Coast style. Named for the British Lion who co-¬founded the brewery, Union Jack is intensely hoppy yet eminently drinkable from start to finish. A fad-proof IPA for any hop head.

February 2, 2023 by Spencer Mapes

JUNEAU, ALASKA – As the seasons begin to heat up, so is the Alaskan Brewing Company as it announces the return of its award-winning Pilot Series, the Jalapeño IPA.

Brewed with fresh Jalapeños, hand selected by brewers from Alaskan’s Brew Crew and combined with a blend of Centennial, Sterling, Magnum, and Apollo hops in balance with Munich and Crystal malts.
