Oskar Blues Brewery Releases Throwback 15-Pack To Celebrate 20 Years Of Dale’s Pale Ale

October 14, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Oskar Blues Breweries LONGMONT, Colorado – When Oskar Blues Brewery first packaged the voluminously hopped Dale’s Pale Ale into an aluminum can twenty years ago, the beer world changed in a single moment. To mark the anniversary of the original-craft-beer-in-a-can’s first run down a canning line, Oskar Blues is releasing the Dale’s Pale Ale Throwback 15-Pack for a limited time nationwide. The 15-pack includes all three legendary can designs from twenty years of cracking open Dale’s. This includes the original can from that fateful November day in 2002 when a brewpub in Lyons, Colorado sent shockwaves through craft beer.

For over half a century, the American beer world was divided along packaging lines – cans were for domestic, mass-produced lagers and glass bottles were for craft beer. It took a funky brewpub thriving on the outdoor lifestyle in Lyons, Colorado called Oskar Blues to crush the status quo. Packaging a hopped up mutha of a pale ale into a can sparked a craft can revolution that continues today. Dale’s Pale Ale is known across the world as the beer that started it all, paving the way for many beers to come. Throughout its twenty year run, this trailblazing beer has only sported three can designs and the limited-edition Throwback 15-Pack includes them all:

The Original (2002-2004): The can that started it all. The exact origin of this hand-drawn artwork remains mysterious. It features major natural landmarks viewable from the brewery’s original hometown of Lyons, ColoRADo – two 14,000+ ft Rocky Mountain peaks (Longs Peak and Meeker Peak) and the St. Vrain River. The stonework is a callback to the exterior of the Oskar Blues Brewpub.

The Classic (2004-2019): The longest running can design for Dale’s Pale Ale. The direction from brewery founder Dale Katechis was simple – make it look like a red, white and blue football helmet. Certain elements are carried forward from the original design (the oval, the typeface, the mountains) but the bold colors, stars and stripes, and clean lines give it a distinctly AmeriCAN look.

The FNG (2020-2022): The latest evolution of Dale’s Pale Ale can design. Debuting in 2020, this art is stripped down and no nonsense. The oval remains but an even cleaner, bolder typeface improves the legibility of the brand. The brewery logo was updated and is centered on a ‘championship belt’ of stars and stripes at the bottom.

To celebrate this momentous 20th CANiversary, Oskar Blues is hosting parties at their Longmont, Colo. and Brevard, N. Carolina taprooms. The N. Carolina location is celebrating twenty years of Dale’s and also ten years since the opening of that second Oskar Blues Brewery location on December 12, 2012. The details of these events can be found at the links below: Oskar Blues Brewery Longmont Taproom – CANiversary – October 15 Oskar Blues Brewery Brevard Taproom – CANiversary and Brevardiversary – December 9-12 The Dale’s Pale Ale Throwback 15-Pack of 12 oz. cans will be available for a limited time only. Find it on shelves nationwide starting now.

Dust Bowl Brewing Co. Launches New Look for Hobo Pils in 19.2oz Cans

October 14, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Dust Bowl BrewingTURLOCK, California – Dust Bowl Brewing Co. unveils a new design and package size for what has become its most-awarded beer, Hobo Pilsner. First brewed and packaged in 2014, the bright, crisp Pilsner has earned more accolades than any other Dust Bowl beer, including the most recent Gold recognition by the 2022 California State Fair Commercial Craft Beer Competition in the American or International Style Pilsner category.

“It’s always gratifying when you brew a beer that continues to resonate with consumers and beer judges alike,” shares Brett Tate, Founder and Owner of Dust Bowl Brewing Co. “Hobo is now in its eighth year in our portfolio. The branding itself goes way back to a time that actually provided the inspiration to start Dust Bowl Brewing Company. My grandpa was a real-life hobo back in the 1930’s. Riding the rails was a way of life that eventually led my family out west. I’m proud of the hard work and grit that shaped my family as Great Depression pioneers. I’m committed to honoring my past and keeping our company moving forward in the best way possible.”

Hobo transitions from a 12oz. / 6pk to the new 19.2oz. single-serve in an effort to increase Dust Bowl’s presence at the C-Store level. Hobo will continue to be available on draft, naturally since it’s been on tap in some establishments since its inception in 2014!

The new look is a mix of old and new. The label takes on striking new colors of light and bright blues with graphics that harken to the brand’s original look of a 1930’s hobo traveler on a background of hobo language. The hobo symbols were a way for the travelers to let the next group coming through town know what to expect, such as the availability of a beer, work or a bed for the night.

The new package is available in California now. Pilsner fans can expect the same clean, classic German-style pils with a light malt base supporting the crisp and refreshing presence of German hops. Hobo has been recognized over the years as follows: Gold, American or International Lager, California State Fair Commercial Craft Beer Competition; Silver, German-style Pilsner, California Craft Brewers Cup; Gold, Bohemian Style Pilsner, California State Fair Commercial Craft Beer Competition; Gold, Best of Show, Light Lager, Amador County Fair; Exceptional, Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine; Gold, Denver International Beer Competition; Silver, Los Angeles International Beer Competition.

Neshaminy Creek Cranks Out Two New Collab Beers with Dock Street and Ellis Coffee

October 11, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Neshaminy CreekCROYDON, Pennsylvania – This month Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company (Neshaminy Creek) is proudly rolling out two tasty collaboration beers. First up, Neshaminy Creek joins forces with Dock Street Brewery, Philadelphia’s first microbrewery, to create Bone Roaster Smoked Porter. This beer will rattle the bones of local beer lovers when it’s released on Friday, October 7, 2022. Then, the following week on October 14, 2022, Rippin’ Pints, inspired by Rippin’ Cups Neshaminy Creek’s custom house blend with Philly’s own Ellis Coffee, combines the brewery’s two greatest loves – coffee and beer.

Bone Roaster Smoked Porter was born out of friendship and shared bragging rights of being awarded Great American Beer Festival medals! Neshaminy Creek has won multiple medals for Croydon Is Burning Smoked Lager, while Dock Street has taken medals for Man Full of Trouble Porter. Bone Roaster combines the breweries’ respective expertise to produce an inventive Smoked Porter with an ABV of 5.7%. Fermented with the yeast strain, Darkness, Bone Roaster has a complex aroma layered with wood smoke, chocolate, and freshly baked bread. This medium-to-full-bodied porter possesses a rich malt character, deep smoky notes, and a clean, bone-dry finish with a haunting whisper of English hops. Bone Roaster will be available at all three Neshaminy Creek taprooms in Croydon, Dublin, New Hope, and Dock Street South on Washington Avenue in Philadelphia, with limited distribution throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland to follow.

Rippin’ Pints is the full-circle evolution of Neshaminy Creek’s collaboration with Ellis Coffee from house blend coffee to medium-bodied brown ale. With a delicate chocolate malt base, robust coffee flavors, and mild citrus notes, this medium-bodied brown ale will put a pep in your step. Rippin’ Pints has an ABV of 5.4% and was cold-conditioned on whole beans from Ellis in a process similar to how cold press coffee is made.

“The fun thing about this business is getting to share the finished product with friends so it’s even better when your friends are involved in the entire process. They’re bringing their unique skills and points of view to make a richer, tastier experience and sometimes things get a little nutty,” says Owner and Lead Brewer, Rob Jahn. “Our long-time friendships inspired both Bone Roaster and Rippin’ Pints, but our combined expertise produced great beers worth celebrating.”

About Neshaminy Creek Brewery

Warped Wing Brewing Company Partners With Dayton Heritage Furniture Company on Wood-Aged Beer

October 11, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Warped Wing BrewingDAYTON, Ohio – Warped Wing Brewing Company is excited to share that they’ve partnered up with long-standing Dayton area furniture maker, H. Gerstner & Sons, on a new collaboration beer – Gerstner Wood-Aged Pilsner. Aged on White Oak & American Cherry wood used in the production of their wood chests at Gerstner, this unique brew clocks in at 5.4% ABV & 22 IBU and will be available on tap beginning Friday, October 7th at Warped Wing Brewery & Taproom in Dayton.

“Over the past year and with a focus on craftsmanship, both companies have been touring and learning about each other’s business and looking for ways to work together,” said Paul Burgess of Gerstner. “Our founder Harry Gerstner built his original chest, and in fact his business, by utilizing the leftover white oak from his father’s cooperage. So, it seemed very appropriate to use leftover Oak and Cherry wood to age a German style pilsner beer for a downtown Dayton establishment.”

The official tapping takes place on Friday, October 7th beginning at 3pm at the Downtown Dayton Warped Wing location at 26 Wyandot Street. Tappings to take place at the Warped Wing Springboro & Mason locations the following day. And in addition to the tapping, the fine folks from Gerstner will be on site at the brewery to show off some of their fine products and craftsmanship.

5.4% ABV   |   22 IBU  Draught only – no cans/bottles

Brooklyn Brewery and Yolélé Collaborate to Create Sustainability-Focused Craft Brew

October 10, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Brooklyn BreweryBROOKLYN, NY – Today, global craft beer innovator Brooklyn Brewery announces the launch of a Brooklyn Brewery x Yolélé Fonio White Beer, a distinctive and delicious craft beer brewed with fonio, the nutritious ancient West African grain that purpose-driven food business Yolélé has helped bring to the American masses. The limited release, which combines fonio’s nutty, wheaty character with juicy hops in a beautifully smooth and refreshing riff on classic white beer (5.6 % ABV), will start rolling out at select Whole Foods Market stores throughout the Northeast throughout October. It will also be available to all beer enthusiasts and sustainability-minded customers in Brooklyn Brewery’s Tasting Room.

Yolélé and Brooklyn Brewery share the goal of promoting a more viable future for food and beverage. The beer itself shines golden with the tiny blond grains – which are packed full of nutrients and health benefits – and underscores these companies’ commitment to furthering sustainability through strategic ingredient-sourcing.

Brooklyn Brewery’s James Beard Award-winning Brewmaster, Garrett Oliver, also a world-leading expert on the utilization of both fonio and other sustainability-focused grains in the brewing process, explains, “A few years ago I saw Chef Pierre Thiam’s TED talk about fonio, and immediately said to myself “This grain sounds amazing…I wonder if we can make beer from it?” After all, beer brewing has been an important part of traditional African cultures for thousands of years, and here was one of the grains that was once a staple for people in that part of the world. We did a pilot brew and it was delicious; it was very fruity, almost like gewurztraminer wine. And then when we brought a fonio beer to the Great American Beer Festival in 2019, people went nuts for it. Fast-forward to now – and this is a whole new level of awesome. Not only is the beer really tasty, but growing fonio supports the environment and supports indigenous farms in West Africa. It’s a big win all around.”

Miles Moser, Brooklyn Brewery’s VP of Sales, adds: “We hope that this beer can do several things in the future, beyond tasting delicious. It can serve as an educational opportunity promoting Fonio and other grains grown with sustainability in mind as viable ingredients in food products that can really make a difference in the world. Fonio has a brewing functionality that can be incorporated into both established and avant-garde brewing recipes, and we’re excited to share that with the world.”

Known as the “seed of the universe,” fonio, a grain in the millet family, is a staple crop and source of sustenance. The ancient African grain has thrived in West Africa for over 5,000 years. Fonio flourishes in a hot, dry region near the Sahara Desert, where little else can grow. As a drought-resistant crop, it may hold key lessons about agriculture in the face of climate change. Fonio also has a nutrient rich profile; it is a good source of fiber, iron, B-vitamins, zinc, and magnesium, as well as antioxidant flavonoids, and is particularly high in two amino acids— methionine and cysteine— which promote hair, skin, and nail growth.

Brooklyn Brewery previously featured fonio in their recent collaborative brew with Run The Jewels, a double pilsner dubbed 36” Chain, and in Seed, Stalk And Root, brewed in partnership with Cajun Fire Brewing Co.

Pierre Thiam, the trailblazing Senegalese chef, restaurateur, award-winning cookbook author, and entrepreneur who co-founded Yolélé in 2017 explains, “It’s been my mission to bring the flavors of Africa to America. By utilizing fonio in food and beverage sold in the States, Yolélé supports livelihoods on smallholder farms in West Africa. Working with Garrett and the Brooklyn Brewery team has been an incredible partnership, and I am proud to see this delicious beer with an African flair on the shelves of Whole Foods Market.”

Chris Manca, principal forager for Whole Foods Market, Northeast Region adds, “We are thrilled to support Brooklyn Brewery and Yolele on the launch of Fonio White Beer. This project aligns with Whole Foods Market’s commitment to elevating local and emerging brands, and shines a spotlight on a wonderful, but underutilized ingredient like fonio. We are excited to bring continued awareness to fonio through the launch of this delicious new brew.”

As for the future use of fonio, Oliver says: “When I started brewing professionally in the late 80s, we really only had a few beer ingredients that we worked with. Today the world of brewing is much more creative, culturally inclusive, and we’re making beers from wonderful ingredients that we’ve re-discovered. Given that fonio requires no irrigation, needs no pesticides, builds the soil, and can help halt desertification, I hope we’re going to see a lot more fonio in beer in the future!”

DISTRIBUTION: Brooklyn Brewery x Yolélé Fonio White Beer will be sold in a 4pk of 16oz cans at Whole Foods Market stores throughout the northeast (in NY, CT, MA, NJ, NH) and also available in Brooklyn Brewery’s Tasting Room.

ABOUT BROOKLYN BREWERY:

From our home in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we draw inspiration from our local community of innovators and makers to spread the culture and creativity of craft beer to over 30 states and more than 30 countries on 5 continents.

ABOUT YOLÉLÉ:

Yolélé is a purpose-driven food business that makes African ingredients available to US home cooks and restaurants, while connecting smallholder farms in West Africa with the global food economy. Founded in 2017 by acclaimed chef Pierre Thiam and his business partner Philip Teverow, Yolélé’s signature product is fonio – a resilient and nutritious ancient grain (similar to a rice or couscous) that the company also uses to make foods like chips and pilaf. By sourcing its fonio from small farms in West Africa, Yolélé is able to create economic opportunity for these communities, while also supporting a more resilient, biodiverse food system by helping to revive demand for this ancient, climate-friendly crop. As part of its work, Yolélé is also building a global supply chain for fonio, utilizing a nearly $2 million grant from USAID to create a fonio processing facility in Mali. Later this Fall, Yolélé will launch African-inspired spice rubs, expanding its product offerings outside of fonio for the first time. Yolélé products are available via Amazon and the Yolélé website for direct shipping, and in retail at more than 2,000 stores across the US, including Whole Foods and Target.

Braxton Brewing Co. and Dewey’s Pizza Announce New Partnership

October 10, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Braxton Brewing CompanyCINCINNATI, Ohio – Braxton Brewing Co., a local brewery with national recognition, is proud to partner with Dewey’s Pizza to bring the 24-year pizza veteran to its Covington, KY taproom and neighboring restaurant location in early 2023. The new Dewey’s location will sit at 43 W 7th St. in Covington, neighboring Braxton Brewing Co., where guests are invited to imbibe in the growing street scene in downtown Covington while enjoying Dewey’s signature menu of pizzas, calzones, salads, and more.

Braxton and Dewey’s – have always been – highly focused on being a central part of the communities they serve. That, in part, has pushed the brands to seek continuous growth and expansion. With Dewey’s now neighboring Braxton’s Covington taproom, guests will be able to enjoy two well-loved local favorites, all from the comfort of the recently renovated Braxton headquarters and restaurant space next door.

“We are excited to serve the Covington community alongside Braxton Brewing Company,” said Chuck Lipp, President of Dewey’s Pizza. “The revitalization of the community and the alignment between brands made it an appealing choice.” Lipp notes guests will have options for dining, either within Braxton’s expansive taproom or they may choose a traditional restaurant experience at Dewey’s. Both options are set to create an exceptional dining experience.

“We absolutely love giving people a space to escape and enjoy. With Dewey’s Pizza as our new neighbors, we feel we’ll be able to continue bringing a one-of-a-kind taproom experience to locals who already know and love this iconic Cincinnati brand,” says Jake Rouse, Co-Founder and CEO of Braxton Brewing Co. “Their establishment as a restaurant in Downtown Covington is a win for the city as a whole. Through our partnership, this elevated dining experience will grow the Covington area and welcome guests from across the tri-state.”

This partnership brings Braxton Taproom guests an entirely elevated food experience in the heart of downtown Covington. Meanwhile, guests looking for a Dewey’s dining experience will be able to enjoy their full-service restaurant next door. Dewey’s Pizza plans to open in early 2023. This is Dewey’s second Northern Kentucky location and eighth within the region.
