Offshoot Beer Co. Releases Member-Inspired Small-Batch Hazy Double IPA

February 17, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

Offshoot Beer CompanyORANGE COUNTY, California – A new month means a new specialty small-batch release from Offshoot Beer Co., and February’s is a big, bold collaboration beer that you are going to want to get your paws on right…meow. Coat your whiskers with some fresh suds – Hoptical Density is an 8.6% ABV hazy double IPA brewed with Citra, Galaxy, Strata, and Cashmere hops, with a label that was inspired by friends of The Bruery and Offshoot who are also members of The Reserve Society®.

Grab your white coat and put on your safety glasses— we’re heading into the lab. Cheers to Stephanie and Michael H., Society members and winners of our 2021 Bruery Anniversary Party auction for a custom Offshoot label. They were so fun to work with— inspired by their cat, Linus, and their work as scientists, we created this hazy double IPA. Bursting with notes and aromas of tropical fruits and citrus, this juice bomb is science cat approved and ready for testing. Don’t wait on this one— Hoptical Density will only be around in limited quantities at The Bruery’s locations and online for a short time.

After winning the high bid to design a special Offshoot Beer Co. label, Stephanie and Michael began working with our marketing and design team. They both work in science fields, but originally met and bonded over their love of beer, and have an awesome cat Linus that is a big part of their lives (but is, unfortunately, not a scientist himself). We put those two ideas together, and worked with a local artist and friend of Offshoot to bring this science cat to life. The result is a truly original label that you definitely won’t find anywhere else. Hidden throughout are special nods to the couple, with their initials and the cat’s name featured. Grab a 4-pack to find all the hidden bits! The couple also came up with the incredible name. The term Optical Density refers to the absorption of light in a given material, and Offshoot added their fun ‘hop’ spin on it, which works perfectly for a super hazy beer and the couple who inspired it!

Stefan Weber, Production Manager for The Bruery and Offshoot Beer Co., also had a blast with this beer. “We finished up the brewing process a bit earlier than we had expected, and we thought ‘why not double dry-hop it! We also sourced a local Pilsner malt, which brought a ton of extra creamy character to the beer. The result is citrusy, fruity, and very smooth and bright in a way that doesn’t drink like it’s 8.6%.”

While touring around The Bruery and Offshoot’s facility, Michael noted “we are no strangers to needing to wear safety glasses around our jobs, and both Stephanie and I are both avid homebrewers so this opportunity to design our own label was really fun! We are grabbing a few cases of Hoptical Density to share with our friends (and Linus).”

Hoptical Density is now available in 16oz 4-packs at OffshootBeer.com as well as in limited distribution across Offshoot’s footprint.

Offshoot Beer Co. is proud to offer:

Same day Local Delivery across Orange County, Los Angeles County, and Washington D.C. for all orders placed before 12 PM on TheBruery.com.

TALEA Beer Co. and Levain Bakery to Launch Dark Chocolate Cookie Stout

February 12, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

TALEA Beer Co. and Levain Bakery to Launch Dark Chocolate Cookie StoutNew York – TALEA Beer Co. and Levain Bakery collaborated to launch Dark Chocolate Cookie Stout — an unprecedented, indulgent stout inspired by Levain Bakery’s famously ooey-gooey Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookies. How’s that for an unexpected pairing?

Brewed with fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies and rich dark cocoa from Levain, an ample dose of vanilla and milk sugar are added for a ridiculously rich and chocolatey stout that matches the decadence of Levain’s famous cookies. Talk about a Valentine’s Day treat.

Whole Foods Market played matchmaker in this limited edition collaboration, bringing together these two NYC brands who share similar founder stories.

As two female-founded companies, Levain Bakery and TALEA Beer Co. are crafting delicious treats to make life more delightful. Best friends Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald left their corporate jobs to launch Levain in 1995. Their cookies quickly became renowned across the city – beloved by locals and tourists alike. Similarly, Tara Hankinson and LeAnn Darland left corporate careers behind to bring their love of craft beer to the city of New York through totally different, easy-to-love beers. This cookie/beer collaboration was a match made in heaven!

Dark Chocolate Cookie Stout will be available in 4-packs for $18.99 in select Whole Foods stores across New York City, Long Island, and Westchester. This beer will also be available in 4-packs and on draft in the TALEA Beer taproom and brewery at 87 Richardson Street in Williamsburg starting February 7th.

52 Maine Breweries Team Up for Collaboration IPA V2

February 12, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

BreweryPORTLAND, Maine – With more than 150 breweries now licensed in Maine, it’s becoming increasingly important for each Maine brewery to differentiate their brand. So, why are 52 Maine brewers teaming up to release the same beer, with the same name, all across the state and beyond?

“This beer is a celebration of the collaborative spirit that has kept Maine brewers strong throughout the pandemic,” said Sean Sullivan, executive director of the Maine Brewers’ Guild. “So many people have discovered craft beer in the past five years, and what they love about it is the way we all work together. When we all brew the same recipe, it keeps that spirit alive and supports our industry.”

Now in its second year, the Collaboration IPA also helps support the Maine Brewers’ Guild, the nonprofit that serves the craft beer industry in Maine. In 2020, 44 breweries participated, raising $27,000 to directly support the Guild. This year, the Collaboration brew is expected to raise nearly $34,000.

“We chose to brew the beer to support the Maine Brewers Guild and the entire Maine brewing community,” said Jamie Blood, founder of Corner Point Brewing in Kittery. “Without all the guidance, support, and insight from the other brewers; as well as the support of the best guild around, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love for a living!”

The industry’s collaborative spirit spreads beyond taprooms and to the entire supply chain, with hop growers and maltsters donating ingredients to make Collaboration IPA v2 a reality. Crosby Hop Farms of Oregon and Yakima Chief Hops of Washington, along with two Maine-based maltsters – Blue Ox Malthouse in Lisbon, and Maine Malt House in Mapleton donated the hops and malt needed to brew the IPA. A New Hampshire based label company; Amherst Label stepped in to help brewers reduce costs for printing their labels.

“We love doing the MBG Collab for a couple reasons,” said Gale White, founder of Lubec Brewing. “While we brew a lot of different styles of beer, the MBG Collab is way outside our comfort zone in terms of hops variety and quantity. Our regular customers love being introduced to the “radical” beer styles of southern Maine and our visiting customers find comfort in a really hoppy IPA.”

And while the recipe is the same, each Collaboration IPA v2 will have its own unique taste, as many brewers add their own twist to the recipe. For example, Foundation Brewing Co. used the basic recipe but fermented the beer using lager yeast. Woodland Farms Brewery is brewing a non-alcoholic version. Bateau Brewing in Gardiner split the batch, fermenting one with a traditional IPA yeast, and the other with a yeast that produces lactic acid to make a sour IPA.

The Maine Brewers’ Guild Collaboration IPA v2 will be available on draft, in cans, and bottles from over 50 breweries throughout February and March. Maine Beer lovers can drink easy knowing that proceeds will directly support the Maine Brewers’ Guild and craft beer community.

About Maine Brewers’ Guild

Maine Brewers’ Guild is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the craft beer industry in Maine. Since 1986, Maine has been at the forefront of the craft beer movement. As of August 2018, Maine is home to over 150 breweries and is consistently recognized as one of the best destinations in the USA for beer tourists.

All three beers join 2XIPA to create a first-of-its-kind Double IPA variety pack with four different 8.2% ABV IPAs, three of each, available all in one pack called The 2X Factor Double IPA Mixed Pack. That’s what drives us and that’s the 2X factor.”

February 11, 2022 by Dustin Scoggins

EclipticPORTLAND, Oregon – Portland’s Ecliptic Brewing – founded by beer icon, John Harris – is opening a new market in Q1 of2022. Ecliptic has partnered with Hayden Beverage to launch their Idaho territory in mid-February of this year.

John Harris, Ecliptic’s Owner and Brewmaster, has wanted to open the Idaho market for a few years now. He says, “We’ve had our eye on Idaho for a while, but we didn’t have the production capacity to support it. Our brewery had nearly been at max capacity, and we needed more beer.”

When Ecliptic Brewing opened their second brewery and taproom in Southeast Portland last November (Ecliptic Brewing Moon Room), the opportunity for new markets arose. Continues Harris, “Idaho was a natural next step for us. We’re really excited to be partnering with Hayden Beverage to bring our beer to our neighbors next door!”

Hayden Beverage is Idaho’s largest statewide distributor of beer, wine, and premium non-alcoholic beverages. Says Erin Grey Kemplin, Ecliptic’s Sales Manager, ““It was really important for us to find the right distributor partner in Southern Idaho. We were very thorough in oursearch and we found that with Hayden.” Hayden Beverage is an independent, family-owned and operated business which has been around since the 1930’s. It now employs more than 600 employees between their Idaho and Montana footprint, showing major growth – and an opportunity to provide great service – in their 50+ years of business. Hayden will support Ecliptic with market events and tasting opportunities, as well as social media posts.

Ecliptic Brewing will launch the Idaho market with a variety of beers. Highlights include the company’s flagship beer – Ecliptic Starburst IPA – and Phaser Hazy IPA, as well as with their Seasonal Series, beginning with SunRay Juicy IPA. Additionally, some beers from their Cosmic Collaborations Series will make it for the launch including Ecliptic + Wayfinder Cold IPA and Ecliptic + Reuben’s Brews CRI-STAR IPA.
