Anderson Valley Brewing Company Releases “Black Light Ale”

January 16, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

BOONVILLE, California— At Anderson Valley Brewing Company (AVBC), we decided our New Year’s resolution was to have our cake and eat it too. By “cake” we mean “beer,” and by “eat” we mean “drink a tasty, full-flavored, craft beer.” Never shy, Barkley, our antlered bear, chimed in as well, insisting it had to fit in with some of his resolutions too. It had to be under 100 calories (he’s watching his figure), under 4% ABV (he’s doing damp January and he also likes to have more than one) and it had to be fun (he IS an antlered bear after all).

Thankfully, brewmaster Fal Allen had a solution at hand: a magical unicorn of a beer we have dubbed “Black Light” – a dark and delicious craft beer with only 95 calories and 7 carbs at 3.8% ABV. The multiverse will never be the same.

You may think to yourself, nay, this cannot be, but Black Light has Barkley’s official seal of approval and you would be surprised how skeptical antlered bears can be. Black Light has also been winning awards in blind tastings – including a recent Silver medal at the Brussels Beer Challenge. So we got busy making more of it to get it to you for the New Year.

“We’re overjoyed with this conundrum of a beer,” said Anderson Valley President and CEO Kevin McGee. “This beer shouldn’t taste as good as it does, but here it is. No corners were cut to bring you an actual light beer that still has full craft beer-flavored-beer flavor. It’s a legitimately amazing thing.”

So don’t be blinded by the “light”, this is a delicious craft beer, through and through.

ABV: 3.8% | IBU: 18 | Cals: 95 | Carbs 7

Flavor Profile
Roasted malt, dark rye bread with nut

Ingredients
Hops: Northern Brewer
Malts: Pale Two-Row, Chocolate, Midnight Wheat, Black Rice
Yeast: House

Black Light is now available nationwide. Find it near you at avbc.com/find-our-beer.

About Rupee Beer

Brothers Van & Sumit Sharma, sons of Indian restaurateurs in the business internationally for over 50 years, found themselves continually frustrated they could not find any Indian beer in Maine – the least diverse state in America where their family immigrated to from the United Kingdom & Germany in the early 90’s.

They decided to not only create their own beer, but set out to game change the food & beverage industry in a bold and diverse way. The Sharma brothers strategically partnered with global craft brewing legend Alan Pugsley, 40+ year master beer brewer, lover of Indian food as a British expat, and creator of over 100+ global beer brands, to create Rupee Beer and re-write everything society understands about craft beer as it relates to spicy world cuisine.

Sun King Brewery Launches Indianapolis Brewing Company Lager

January 16, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana— Sun King Brewery, Indiana’s most awarded and best-selling local beer, proudly announces the launch of Indianapolis Brewing Company Lager, a premium American lager that pays homage to the rich brewing tradition of the Hoosier state.

Founded in 1887 by the merger of three well-established brewing companies – C. Maus Brewery, CF Schmidt Brewing Co, and P. Lieber Brewing Company – the Indianapolis Brewing Company quickly rose to prominence, becoming one of the 10 largest breweries in America around the turn of the century. Their beers earned widespread acclaim, winning a gold medal at the Paris Exposition of 1900 and the grand prize gold medal at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.

Despite the challenges of Prohibition, the Indianapolis Brewing Company persevered by developing a non-alcoholic product base, producing legal medicinal tonics, sodas, and malt extracts. After the repeal of Prohibition, the company resumed brewing its famous beer, only to face a decline and eventual closure in 1948 due to legal troubles.

Fast forward to July 2009, when Sun King Brewing Company reignited the brewing flame in Indianapolis, becoming the first full-scale production brewery in the city since the closure of the original Indianapolis Brewing Company. Sun King has since grown to become Indiana’s foremost local beer, earning widespread acclaim and garnering dozens of national and international awards.

With a deep respect for the brewing legacy of the Hoosier state, Sun King Brewery is proud to introduce Indianapolis Brewing Company Lager. This all-malt, premium American lager seeks to revive the vibrant legacy of its iconic predecessor and bring a legendary beer brand to a new generation of beer enthusiasts.

IBC (Indianapolis Brewing Co) Lager is meticulously crafted and comes in convenient 6-packs of 12 oz. cans, making it the perfect choice for beer lovers seeking a taste of Indiana’s brewing tradition. Consumers are encouraged to ask for Indianapolis Brewing Company Lager at their local retailers.

About Sun King Brewery

Sun King Brewing Company is an Independently owned Indiana Brewery. Conceived by two professional brewers and started with the help of family and friends, Sun King rolled out their first keg of beer in July of 2009. Over the years, Sun King has grown to become one of Indiana’s best-selling and most award-winning breweries. With seven locations across Indiana and a Brewery/Tap Room in Sarasota, Florida, Sun King is currently available on tap and in cans throughout Indiana, Illinois, western Ohio, and Florida.

Sun King’s brewers hand craft core, seasonal and specialty beers that have been rewarded with dozens of medals at the Great American Beer Festival, World Beer Cup, Festival of Barrel Aged Beers, and the Indiana Brewers Cup competitions.

Sun King takes great pride in partnering with hundreds of community organizations throughout the places where our beer is sold to help them raise awareness and funds for great causes. Each year Sun King helps these organizations raise over a million dollars through our community give-backs, gift baskets, and beer donations.

StormBreaker Brewing Releases New Mexican Dark Lager, Permission To Land

January 16, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

PORTLAND, Oregon— StormBreaker Brewing, the award-winning Portland, OR brewery, has announced a new Mexican Dark Lager called Permission To Land to kick off the new year.

Permission to Land builds off of the success the brewery has seen the past several years with releasing dark beers in the early part of the year.

“It’s definitely the season for people to gravitate towards darker beers,” commented Rob Lutz, StormBreaker Brewing’s brewmaster and co-owner. “Like a lot of breweries, we see more demand for darker beers at this time every year, because the weather and general mood calls for them. But we wanted to give the option for those customers to get the dark beer experience with a lighter body – which for a lot of people is a big selling point after an indulgent holiday stretch.”

Permission To Land carries a 4.8% ABV and 14 IBUs, making it light and easy to drink despite its darker appearance. StormBreaker utilized Czech Saaz, New Zealand Motueka, and Hallertau Mittelfruh hops in producing the beer. The mix of ingredients allows for the lower-ABV dark beer to carry the flavor and expectations of a rich ‘winter’ beer with the drinkability of something you may drink just as easily at the beach in July.

“We used Vienna and Munich malts to provide a really rich malt character,” explained Lutz. “The final product is a nicely balanced beer with a touch of roasty goodness that is incredibly easy to drink.”

Permission To Land will be available on draft and in cans to-go at all StormBreaker locations: Mississippi Ave., St. John’s, and the Beer Cart at The Yard in Montavilla.

About StormBreaker Brewing

StormBreaker Brewing is an award-winning craft brewery co-founded in Portland, Oregon by Dan Malech and Rob Lutz in 2014. The brewery focuses on a wide range of craft beer and specialty craft cocktails and mocktails in two distinct locations, and strives to constantly produce innovative and high quality offerings. And don’t forget about the StormerBreaker Beer Cart located inside The Yard at Montavilla at NE 82nd and Davis, serving up beer, wine, cider and cocktails available onsite or to go.

Kansas City’s hometown brewery introduced its first offering in the space in 2021 with the release of Flying Start Non-Alcoholic IPA. As the demand for options has continued to rise in the craft beer industry, Boulevard is excited to add both Non-Alcoholic Wheat with Lemon and Quirk Non-Alcoholic Superfruit Seltzer in 2024.

Building off the success of Flying Start, Boulevard recently released Non-Alcoholic Wheat with Lemon. Unfiltered Wheat has been Boulevard’s most popular beer for more than three decades and with many consumers’ preferences shifting toward non-alcoholic options, the brewery has taken the Midwest favorite and reimagined it with less than .5% ABV, and a flavorful infusion of lemon. This new brew is now available year-round in six-packs of 12-oz. cans.

In addition to Boulevard’s beer offerings, its Quirk Hard Seltzer line has quickly become the top-selling seltzer in the Kansas City market and nearly one-third of the brewery’s overall sales. In the spirit of giving consumers a variety of options for all occasions, Quirk is also launching its first non-alcoholic seltzer. Supercharged with the superfruit flavors of yellow papaya and acai berry juices, Quirk Non-Alcoholic Superfruit Seltzer brings the award-winning flavor of Quirk to all occasions and lifestyles.
