The midwest collaboration of females in the brewery industry is expanding to include more breweries and, new this year, three spirits companies are on board to support. February 21, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

PORTLAND, Oregon— Certified B Corp Hopworks Brewery transports its fans to a warm beach far south of Portland with its brand-new fruited sour seasonal, POG Tropical Sour.

The new brew relies on the juicy, pineapple notes of El Dorado hops to compliment the tropical passionfruit, orange and guava fruit added to each brew. It’s a light, bright sour that’s designed to bring a spot of sunlight to a dark day. 5.6% ABV, 3 IBU.

“We have a lot of fun with our fruited sour rotation, and the classic POG flavors combined into a showstopper of an ale,” said Ryan Pappe, Director of Brewing Operations at Hopworks Brewery. “It’s fun, fruity and refreshing, and if you close your eyes, you just might feel the warm sand and hear the gentle whoosh of palm trees blowing in the island breeze. Or not—but either way, it’s a great sour!”

Every brand-new brew is an opportunity to create fresh can art, and Hopworks’ design team developed a tiki beast with shades, accenting the Hopworks monster iconography with unmistakable tropical flair.

POG Tropical Sour is now available at Hopworks Brewery, located at SE 29th & Powell Boulevard in Portland, and at their Vancouver Pub at SE 177th & Mill Plain Boulevard, as well as on tap and in 16-ounce four-packs at fine establishments and retailers throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Blackberry Smoke and New Realm Brewing Company Launch Southern Light Lager

February 21, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

ATLANTA, Georgia – Who’s ready for a second round? Award-winning craft brewer New Realm Brewing and acclaimed American rock band Blackberry Smoke have teamed up for their latest release: Blackberry Smoke Southern Light Lager. The American lager is 4% ABV and will be available in 12-and 16-oz. six-packs and on draft. The beer will be available in select markets.

This is the second beer the duo has released. In 2022, they launched Blackberry Smoke American Lager in celebration of the band’s 21st birthday. The beer was ranked one of the top 100 beers of 2023 by The Official Review.

“We wanted to brew another beer that we would want to drink,” said Brit Turner, drummer and co-founder of Blackberry Smoke. “Next to hearing your song on the radio, there’s nothing cooler than seeing your band’s name on a beer can. We crafted this one for our fans, and I hope they can feel the love we put into this one.”

At just 110 calories and nine carbs, Southern Light Lager is an easy drinking lager, crafted for refreshment. Expect a straw gold color and an approachable hop bill featuring Magnum, Hersbrucker and lemondrop hops.

“There are a lot of parallels between crafting a song and crafting a beer,” said Mitch Steele, co-founder and Brewmaster of New Realm. “It was great to work with our friends in Blackberry Smoke on another release, and I think we came up with a great beer for our sophomore collaboration. We love working with the whole team, and it’s incredible to see the heights the New Realm name has climbed alongside our brothers and sisters at Blackberry Smoke. The Blackberry Smoke family asked for a light lager for more easy drinking, and that’s what we’ve made! I can’t wait to see how this brew quenches the thirst of our fans wherever they are!”

About New Realm Brewing Co.

New Realm is an American craft brewery and distillery started in 2016 by co-founders Carey Falcone, Bob Powers, and Mitch Steele. The Company operates production and innovation breweries/distilleries, each with on-site scratch kitchens serving globally inspired, locally sourced fare, in multiple Southeastern US cities. Neshaminy Creek’s Rita’s Fruit Brews Return With New Variety Pack

February 16, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

CROYDON, Pennsylvania— After first partnering last spring, Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company (Neshaminy Creek) is thrilled to reintroduce Rita’s Fruit Brews – a line of beers inspired by the iconic Rita’s Italian Ice (Rita’s) with a brand-new Variety Pack. This limited offering will feature the classic Mango Blonde Ale, the fan favorite Peach Ring Tart Ale, and the brand-new pack exclusive, Cherry Lemonade Tart Ale. Thirsty fans will have their first chance to pick up the Rita’s Fruit Brews Variety Pack at Neshaminy Creek’s Early Spring Fling launch party on Saturday, March 2nd starting at 12pm at their brewery and taprooms in Croydon and Dublin, PA.

This seemingly unlikely partnership was born out of local pride as both companies are based in Bucks County, PA, just north of Philadelphia. Rita’s first location opened in 1984 just 10 minutes down the road from Neshaminy Creek’s production brewery while today, the Italian Ice franchise is headquartered only a little further away from the brewery in the opposite direction. Each company has become a staple in their respective fields throughout the region and a refreshing reprieve from the spring and summertime heat.

The Rita’s Fruit Brews Variety Pack will include the beer that kicked off this partnership, a Mango Blonde Ale that takes its juicy cues from Rita’s’ most popular flavor. Also included will be two tart options – Peach Ring and Cherry Lemonade. Rita’s launched a Peach Ring ice flavor last summer which inspired Neshaminy Creek to recreate that flavor in a slightly sweet, slightly sour beer. Exclusive to this Variety Pack is the new for 2024 Cherry Lemonade – another tart ale that combines two classic Italian Ice flavors. All three beers clock in at a highly sessionable 5% ABV and hit the sweet spot for craft beer drinkers looking for something fruity this spring and summer along with category newcomers who may have a nostalgic soft spot for Rita’s and are looking for an adult version to enjoy.

“Everyone has a different favorite Rita’s flavor so putting together a Rita’s Fruit Brews Variety Pack was the obvious next step in this partnership,” said Kyle Park, Director of Sales and Marketing at Neshaminy Creek. “We started getting requests for this type of thing as soon as we announced the first beer last year and I’m so glad we’re going to be able to deliver them in time for spring. We’ve had so much fun working with Rita’s, experimenting with all of their different flavors, and bringing them to life in a new way. I grew up going to Rita’s and love seeing how quickly excited people have been to reconnect with it while enjoying these beers. Having that local connection to a national company like Rita’s is just icing on the cake.”

The Rita’s Fruit Brews Variety Pack will debut in 12oz Can 12-Packs on Saturday, March 2nd at Neshaminy Creek’s Croydon and Dublin taprooms where customers will also be able to get a pint of each flavor on draft. There will also be 12oz Can 6-Packs of the Mango Blonde Ale and Peach Ring Tart Ale available for sale. StormBreaker Brewing Celebrates Zwickelmania With Tours and Two Beer Releases

February 15, 2024 by Spencer Mapes

PORTLAND, Oregon— StormBreaker Brewing, the award-winning Portland, OR brewpub, will celebrate Zwickelmania, the annual celebration of Oregon craft beer organized by the Oregon Brewers Guild, on Saturday, February 17, with a brand new beer and the return of an award winning favorite.

Zwickelmania was started in 2008 with the premise of bringing customers behind the scenes to offer a sneak peek at the elements of brewing that typically aren’t accessible to the general public.

StormBreaker is leaning into the traditional spirit of Zwickelmania with its celebration this year, offering visitors the opportunity to experience a tour of its production space, complete with a detailed discussion of the processes, equipment, and ingredients it uses to produce its beers. During the tour, visitors will also get to meet members of StormBreaker’s brewing and production team, who will be available to answer questions and provide further insights into the company’s brewing operations.

“Zwickelmania is a fun day for us because we’re able to give visitors access to our production space and team that we unfortunately aren’t able to do on a regular basis,” explained Rob Lutz, StormBreaker Brewing’s brewmaster and co-owner. “Our staff really enjoys the day and the opportunity it provides to interact more closely with the community. We regularly hear the feedback that when we do give tours, visitors thoroughly enjoy themselves and get a lot out of the experience.”

Visitors who participate in a tour with StormBreaker as part of Zwickelmania will receive a complimentary tasting flight at its conclusion, an opportunity to taste the output from the process, equipment, and ingredients they just learned more about.

As part of its Zwickelmania celebration, StormBreaker will also release two special beers:

Oregon IPA is a 6.4% ABV American IPA containing Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops that provide tropical aromas and flavors, with notes of pine.

“StormBreaker is proud to call Oregon home, so we made this beer to celebrate this lovely state and its many trails, rambling rivers, and unique adventures,” added Lutz. “We feel like it’s the perfect companion to the outdoor activities we have available to us throughout the state.”

Oregon IPA will be available on draft and in cans for to-go purchases on Saturday at both StormBreaker locations, Mississippi Ave. and St. John’s. Following Zwickelmania, It will be also available throughout Oregon and Washington.

Buffalo Smile is an 8% ABV Imperial IPA that is overflowing with a blend of hops that includes Cascade, Columbus, Ella, and Strata. It was double-dry hopped at the end of the brew cycle with four pounds per barrel of Mosaic and Amarillo. Buffalo Smile brings all the hop flavors for the hopheads, yet is smooth enough for fans of any beer style to enjoy.

Buffalo Smile medaled in the 2021 Oregon Beer Awards, earning bronze in the Imperial IPA category. This is one of the few occasions that the brewery has since released the beer, providing consumers with a rare chance to taste the award-winning recipe.

Buffalo Smile will be available on draft and in cans to-go in Oregon and Washington, as well as at all StormBreaker locations: Mississippi Ave. and St. John’s.
